BREAKING: JUST IN: At least five people have been injured in a shooting at a high school in the Southern California city of Santa Clarita, and authorities are looking for the shooter, officials said

It was a handgun - sounds like he wanted to make his suicide more of a public event - not really the assault weapon style.

You won't hear much ruckus about this one simply because he didn't use an AR. Still, this SHOULD be made a deal of because either his parents or somebody else's parents didn't secure their weapon or some a-hole sold a kid a black market pistol. The former is most likely.

Gotta start preaching gun safety and responsible ownership. No reason this kid should be able to access the guns, let alone take one to school. And obviously address mental health.

If its the parents being neglectful - they need large amounts of jail time and hefty compensation to the physically and mentally harmed.

Girl, 9, Accidentally Kills Instructor While Firing an Uzi

A 9-year-old girl being taught how to use an Uzi sub-machine gun lost control of the powerful weapon and accidentally killed her instructor, authorities said.

The shooting happened at 10 a.m. Monday at Bullets and Burgers, a gun range within the Arizona Last Stop tourist recreational complex southeast of Las Vegas.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, the instructor –- identified as Charles Vacca, 39 –- was standing next to the girl, teaching her how to use the Uzi. The girl's parents, who are from New Jersey, stood nearby, capturing video of the experience.

Sam Scarmardo, a former Lake Havasu City Council member who operates the shooting range, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the girl's parents signed waivers saying they understood the rules of the range and were standing nearby, video-recording their daughter, when the accident happened.

AR would be much more devastating so I agree.

AR needs to be banned.  Handguns and long guns needs to be severely restricted.  I believe there should be an annual fee to own one.

You wont hear much about this because it happens so regularly that we've become desensitized to horror of it and the deep dark sadness of the fact that people would rather have a hobby than do anything meaningful to prevent it.

Yeah, no. The FBI already showed the numbers of the amount of murders committed by tool used. AR15s aren't even top 5. Banning the AR allows for the banning of the hunting rifle, which allows for the banning of pistols, which leads to total confiscation, which leads to fascism. History tells us this. Meanwhile, banning the AR does NOTHING to stop this kid or the VAST majority of murders by gun.

You don't blame the tool. You blame the operator and/or factors which lead to the individual getting to that point without getting help.

ALL OF THIS IS BESIDES THE POINT IN THIS PARTICULAR TRAGEDY. This kid should have never been able to get hands on this gun and take it to school and that's where we need to focus.

1. You would have to confiscate all of the guns in a country where there are 300 million+.

2. You would have to ensure no guns get in the hands of the <1% of the population that actually does this heinous poo.

3. You would have to convince everybody that they're safer from home Invaders without guns.

Good luck.

What moron let's a kid who clearly can't physically handle that kind of gun shoot it without holding on to her hands and the gun for dear life? This is why you give kids BB guns and teach them the cardinal rules early with a BB gun so that they grow up with that knowledge and increase weapon intensity as their physical ability dictates. Senseless and stupid.

AR literally have no purpose... it is a horrible home defense weapon, terrible for hunting...  it’s only used for shooting practice and that’s it.  It has no purpose except being a devastated assault weapon.  Hand guns can be legal but there need to be much stricter restriction.

Do you need a license to operate a gun range in AZ?

Do you need a license/certification to be a professional firearm instructor in AZ?

Not sure, but the owner and instructor at the firing range and her parents literally signed off on this 9 year old firing an Uzi on a rapid fire setting.

All hail the free market!

Hey Mom and Dad!

Remember that time when I was 9 years old and you took me to the firing range?

Good times!
