We need to be wise with Cam

Not just last season, 2018 as well.  Peppers, TD, Kalil, Cam, Olsen, Luke, etc....all were here for 2018.....and we poo the bed.  Then we tried it one last time....and poo the bed.

This is very similar to what the Giants tried to do in 16, and they poo the bed, and now they have a pretty bad football team.  Saints tried to do it this way a few years ago and were stuck at 7-9 until they went back the right way to do things and focused on the draft.

We tried to milk it a little longer....and it failed.  Not wanting us to try it once again like many around here.

We dont have a choice to do it again, everyone is gone. The saints turned it around with one good draft if I remember correctly and I think we can too with a few FA moves that wont break the bank. If we do move on from Cam, all in saying is, I hope we have someone in mind.

In '12, Alex Smith was traded to the Chiefs for a 2nd-rounder & a conditional pick after a pro bowl season. He was traded again in '18 to the Foreskins for a 3rd-rounder. Again, it was after a pro bowl season.

In '19, Flacco was traded to the Broncos for a 4th-rounder. Flacco had been injury prone & not so hot for the previous 2 seasons.

In '06, Dante Culpepper was traded to the Dolphins for a 2nd-rounder. Culpepper was recovering from ACL, MCL & PCL injuries.

IMO, there is no way in hell a team is going to trade a 1st-rounder for Cam, despite being a former MVP QB. He's been injury prone for the past two seasons & is still recovering. The best we could possibly do is a 3rd-rounder & a 7th-rounder, just like we did with the Bills when we traded Benji.

Unless we trade up for a quality QB who could play right away (Joe Burrow?), keeping Cam for a one year audition is our best option. If Cam stays, Olsen will stay. Same for lots of useful FAs such as McCoy, Boston & Super Mario. They LOVE Cam.

But if Cam goes, they'll all go.

No need in arguing anymore, we will know more in May and see what direction we go in.

It would be idiotic to just let Cam walk.  Trade him for something or keep him on the roster.  I'd be shocked if Cam held out of training camp or did any shenanigans like that.

For whatever opinion one may hold in regards to Newton's future with the Panthers. One thing real Panthers fans should be able to come to an understanding on is it would be a travesty to get nothing in return for him at all after what has happened with Kuechly.

If Tepper decides to trade or release Cam he immediately becomes the villain to a large portion of the fan base.

If Cam goes on to be successful on another team, fans will remain pissed off until a new QB wins games and takes the Panthers to the playoffs and beyond.

Agreed. Cam is a beloved player. He SHOULD be healthy this time around and he's had a lot of time to rest his body. He deserves another shot, and the fans deserve to see that too. Make no mistake, if he goes to another he's going to ball out.

This is true, unless we feel we can use him ourselves, I just dont see this long rebuild everyone is taking about. I dont think tepper likes loosing anymore then I do.

Cam, Curtis, 2nd round Center, FA LT on a 1 year or 2 year contract, DJ moore, and CMC. That's plenty on offense and doable. On defense D. Brown and a 3rd round run disrupter and that's about all on defense with the resigning of our FAs and maybe Kendall Fuller. Also doable, I just cringe at a long rebuild.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but the most underrated thing in all of sports continues to be the structure, operations, culture and continuity of the front office/coaching staff. We see the players and simply believe we can plug and play guys, as if they are robots. The forgotten portion is that in successful organizations they aren’t just plugging, they are maximizing the ability of players in particular roles.

The idea that you would handicap that process in any way, especially with a QB who is 30 with an injury history and at best questionable future is laughable UNLESS that is exactly the direction the team wants to go in. QB is without wuestion the most important position, but this also impacts every other player on the field and the coaching staff’s ability to maximize what they want to do with them.

Too many, even with Rivera gone, are in essence asking Tepper and Ruhle to make it work with previous players, previous philosophy, and previous plan. THAT is riskier than any scenario whether we keep Cam or not.

Think of this - let’s say Ruhle kept Cam against his own wishes and poorly uses Cam. Where do you go from there? And that’s in a complete bubble not considering what’s in Cam’s best interest or the org with his payday. I think the worst thing you can do is restrict your coach when you clearly have already invested in him changing everything around.

Cam isn't worth much right now.

I agree if that is truly Rhules wishes but if his options are Can Newton or Kyle Allen, I think his choice is obvious and he knew his qb options when he signed on here as did Brady. I don't even want to see a hint of Rivera's culture here, but that doesnt mean Cam Carrys that stench.

I would love for Olsen to stay but he would have to take a large pay cut. Ian has excelled when given full snap counts and they might decide to go younger anyway. I agree with you on the rest of it and with a 2nd round center and a FA vet LT we should be able to protect Cam and hopefully the year goes good extending his career here.

We would be lucky to get a 2nd or even a 3rd at this point.

This is just mind-bogglingly inaccurate
