Marty's enormous BRAIN

Marty doesn't bring in people he personally wants. He brings in folks his coaches and scouts say they want to run their system.  Saying all the bad picks and good picks are due primarily to Marty is pretty naive.

Pretty sure the GM in most cases has a lot of input as to who does or doesn’t get picked.

If you go back in history and this applies to every GM we’ve had, the biggest problems we’ve had have been the head coach not the players drafted. The 2nd biggest factor was QB play.  This actually applies to every team in the league not just us. Just go back and look at the Super Bowl contestants each year.

The 2 biggest factors to consider on our future have more to do with Rhule and who and how our QB plays.

Yes.  Yes you could, just as i could have done this to predict which Huddlers would add to the conversation and which are more prone to make some critical comment or demonstrate a lack of understanding of the point.   But if you understand the connection between action and habits of mind, you need to do it for each GM to understand their tendencies.

And? Do you have any relevant information to back that up?

Common sense.  His size, speed, and the year he was taken all point to him playing OLB, not MLB, and him being insurance against (previously undefeated in TD's case) Father Time.

Do you have any relevant info about him becoming a MLB, or Luke leaving 3 years after he was drafted?

Not at all. NY needs a QB but nobody has factors this into anything. If the owner says I want a QB. Gman will jump.

They drafted a QB #6 overall last year.

The thing is we have a vast array of college coaches on the payroll now...

I would expect our scouting to vastly improve actually. This next two years at least.

Just like Norv pushed for DJ Moore and Will Grier, I expect Rhule, Snow, and Brady to do the same. This draft in particular, Hurney will just be the telephone man IMO.

He may surprise with Jeudy. Giants WR core is horrid and he needs to win now or he's gone. Their oline is bad, but adding a marvin Harrison type receiver would help that offense tremendously.

If they are picking BPA, hard to argue against it.

The GM makes the call. He gets input from coaches (something he didn't have in 2010 and that did not go well) and the scouts.  To say that the GM should not be held accountable--when the decision is made on his watch--is not a fair defense.  He above all others, gets credit and blame--I credited his first round picks.

I also think what you describe will be closer to the actual situation this year--but that is speculation.  I think he was given a ton of freedom under JR---

What happens behind closed doors from team to team probably varies a lot.

Guessing OP forgot Hurney drafted Jackson

May have, but since the jury is still out on him, it changes little.  Is that your offering to the discussion? Thanks, if so.

We also may have a new scouting department post-draft.

Just to confirm I am following correctly, if it was a good pick and motivated by Norv (or a coach), then Hurney doesn't get credit, but if it was a bad pick motivated by a coach, Hurney takes the fall?

QQ: Why does Hurney not get credit for Norman? If RR played him, it would have been more than "one season" (Ill argue that it wasnt just one season) and the Otah thing isnt Hurney's fault. When healthy Otah was a mauler. You can't predict injuries, and no GM should be held to that.

No, if the name is called, it goes on the GM's resume.
