An interesting idea for an alternative to the onside kick. 4th and 15 play. Only usable twice per game. Frankly a lot safer IMO than an onside kick.

Thoughts?

We literally recovered one JUST IN DECEMBER... We also didn't do poo with it.

Here's another angle.  It can be used twice at any time during a game after a score.  How many teams (Kansas City would for sure) after scoring a touchdown on the opening drive would elect to do this?  The offense is on a roll, the defense is on their heels.  For a high powered offense it's almost a no brainier.  Bury the opponent early.  If you don't make it but your defense is strong and can hold them to a field goal your still ahead.

I actually could see this happening more if someone scores on the opening drive of the 2nd half.

I have heard a proposal that you can only use it if a team can kneel and leave you less then 20 seconds on the clock if they just received.

NFL is going the route of Nascar.  They think speed is king, like we can tell if someone is running a 4.3 or a 4.45.  Nascar did the same, sacrificed the competition just to say, "wow, look how fast we are running".

NFL might want to have the players put back on pads, especially from the waist down.  If everyone was running 2/10ths slower, the game would still be entertaining and players would be protected from the sheer speed and with better equipment.

Or, they can just keep screwing up a good thing.  I figure the latter will prevail.

They messed up the onside kick when they re-did all the kickoff rules. This 4th and 15 is bad. Not the answer.

Several years ago, some sportswriter concluded that the biggest enemy to the game of football was the NFL Competition Committee.  He was correct then, and it has only gotten worse.

They need to issue a seven-year moratorium on new rules, except to repeal the new rules previously implemented that have turned out to be mistakes.

i would prefer to bring back the onside kick as it was before the updated concussion preventing rules as well as the older for blocking extra point and field goals.

Defensive holding is the biggest problem here.  It will result in a first down and the refs can basically call it anytime they want.  Seems like a license for the refs to influence the outcome way too much.

I bet its happening but I don't like it.

That's not nearly a close substitute. Onsides kicks are incredibly hard to pull off and when they miss that field position is also a factor when the team with the lead is at the 40ish or more with the penalty. 4 and 25 when the D gets 2 extra players maybe.

Whatever it is, they can't put it in the refs hands and it needs to be a lot more difficult with at least one caveat thrown in.
