Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers - Matchup and Discussion

People on the Bears message board are calling this a "trap game"

Panthers are 3-2 and favored to win. How the hell is this a trap game for them? lol

Well, they are 4-1 and 3rd in the conference and we are 7th.

Trap game indicates a game that a team should be 100% expected to win but they could have some problems with for various reasons (i.e. division rival, bad matchup, opposing QB able to take over a game, etc.). Panthers don't really fit the bill there, the Bears should not be 100% expected to win. It's a pretty damn close matchup both on paper and with each team's records. A perfect example of a trap game was the Dolphins Patriots last year week 17. Everybody expected the 12-3 Patriots to win that game easily against a 4-11 Dolphins team in New England. They got trapped and lost and it was a huge upset/surprise. Bears/Panthers -- most people would not be surprised with either team winning.

Really nervous about this game and the one vs. New Orleans for some reason. I think it's the injuries and the talks of "worst 4-1 team" are triggering memories of the "worst undefeated team" talk about the 2015 Panthers. Bears are nothing like that team, but it's still fresh in memory. D:

If the OL can keep it together against the Chicago defense and the defense can continue trending upward, woot.

Does anyone know anything about Kerr’s toe injury? I see he’s questionable on the report. Could be significant if he can’t go. Roy definitely will not be generating any pass rush from the inside and Kerr has done an adequate job with that

Been peeking their forum a bit all week just to get a sense of how their fans think of their 4-1 start. It’s kind of funny. There is a huge contingent of fanatical positivity and an almost equal measure of brooding cynicism. Maybe the years of Chicago letdown eventually require those extremes to keep one’s fandom burning.

I mean we have our quirky ones here but for the most part we tend to range from cautiously optimistic to reasonably pessimistic.

If I were betting, I would say Bears in a close one, 17-14.  Since I am not, I will say panthers 24, bears 20.

I will say though that I think right now the Bears have an advantage in the trenches, while we seem to have an advantage in the skill positions on the offensive side.   But if we are forced to thrown a lot of the time, would likely be a long day for Mr Bridgewater.
