Wednesday practice tweets (joint practice with the Browns!)
CPcavedweller replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Flacco is the starter. That isn't a surprise as it's already been their plan. The way I see it is that Pickett was picked up as trade bait. You have Watson on an insane contract, and hope to keep him on PUP so he doesn't take up a roster spot. You have Flacco as your starter and then two cheap rookies as back-ups. It isn't a recipe for success but it's the hole they've dug themselves. They can't get rid of two rookies on 3rd and 5th round contracts with the contract that Watson has, in my opinion. And honestly, I expect Shedeur to play well tomorrow. I didn't care for him as a person but the utter disdain some people had for him made me check him out more closely, and he seems to be largely a good guy. Says the right things, has been doing the right things, his teammates like him and trust him, etc. It's very similar to how Cam was viewed outside of Carolina. But playing in a pro style offense in college, and your leading rusher has 300 yards, in 13 games, yet completing 74% of your passes for more than 4,000 yards with 40+ touchdowns, and winning awards, at a P5 school and then going in the 5th round is unheard of. He's at least a second round talent and I'm excited to see what he can do, or rather what Stefanski will call. Don't know if they will call the game to let him let it rip or just force the issue to drive down the field methodically. If Bryce Young can demand a kings ransom to trade up and get, none of the physical limitations they said that Shedeur had are really limitations at all. It was an excuse. -

Antonio Brown could also create 10 yards of separation through Hall of Fame level route running. XL doesn't have that. Tet won't get open but he will catch the ball away from his body. -
You're not going to change my mind on this. Defenses are worse today than they were. Positional value is irrelevant because relative defensive performance still wins championships. Even if defenses are not as good as they once were, it simply means teams are thinking that offensive spending leads to more wins and the Bengals and Eagles proved that isn't the case, on opposite ends of the spectrum. Give me a 2015 Panthers set-up with a better offensive coordinator and more consistent QB play over what the Bengel's are trying to do.

I agree with you. The difference between Adam being on the field and not being on the field is tangible. I don't think Tet is going to change that dynamic. That's why I wanted Golden. Give him a year or two behind Adam to learn the ins and outs of the NFL game and man, he would be dangerous. He's already going to be dangerous on his own but let him play behind one of the best route runners this generation of receivers and let him go. Given Bryce's game, I didn't like the Tet pick. So whether our success hinges on Adam really depends on how comfortable Bryce is throwing to covered receivers, because Tet has issues getting off of coverage. That was known from Arizona and doesn't seem to be any different here.

Positional value of a 3rd receiver is higher than a starting MLB? You build defenses inside out and front to back. A good defensive line can make good linebackers look like great linebackers. Good linebackers can make good secondary players look like great secondary players. Look at Kurt Coleman as an example. Luke Kuechly and Co. made it possible for Coleman to have an All-Pro like season. Same thing for Josh Norman.
-
I think that largely depends on play calling, and Theilen being available. The Panthers need a guy who can carve up a defense and it showed last year when Adam was in versus when he was out. I still think we should have taken Matthew Golden instead of King Tet but we're here now. Gotta make lemonade.

That was Bucky Williams, Austin Peay transfer to App State. He's a camp body at this point, even though he did road grade Texas A&M in 2022. -

If there is a God, I want to talk to him about why I didn't get to be Myles Garrett. -

Possible the Browns are looking to trade Shadeur?
CPcavedweller replied to TylerDurden's topic in Carolina Panthers
No. He is starting largely because Gabriel and Pickett are hurt. In my opinion, after reading about their camp, he’s been the best performer after Flacco, as well. Whatever the drama going on in the C-suites, I don’t think they would trade Sanders just because. Then again, they got rid of Baker. Who knows? I used to like Stefanski but the more I see, the more I realize drama just follows him around. -
It's a preseason game, but...losing is not an option.

Something like 40 out of 53 spots are decided. The rest is noise, honestly. But the final score is indicative of depth which does play a role down the line. -

Legette dropped 14% of his targets last year. He won’t shut people up by continuing to drop balls like he did at FanFest. -
Restarted is the term I prefer. It shocks me that you haven’t heard the term rizz yet watch the NFL.

What actions, exactly? It’s funny how one email about a dudes mouth overrides 35 years of working experience all because you’re a little more pale than the person you commented on. He got comfortable believing he was one of the guys and someone LEAKED EMAILS which, right or wrong, were stolen. He does still represent the NFL. He gets access to facilities, to players, to coaches, to playbooks. He gets asked for evaluations. That’s a lot more involved than some random YouTuber. You understand that, right?

If running to pass really works we got market cornered!!!

Five touchdowns, 40 points and 35 points against teams fighting for a playoff bid is the floor? So you’re thinking Tom Brady levels of efficiency? Reasonable… -

If that’s the case then we wasted a pick on Etienne. Personally, I’d like 700, 600, and 400 yards from three guys because everyone will be fresh in February. -
Rizz isn't 14 year old language. The fact you say that makes me question your character a bit. How Gruden of you...

Story lines just changed. Shadeur Sanders is starting. I've been following the Browns camp pretty closely, they haven't given him many snaps with the ones at all, and few with the two's. The lack of gelling is going to be very obvious, even if Shadeur is capable. That said, he hasn't thrown an INT in camp and has the most touchdown passes while being close to 70% completion. If he plays well, the entirety of the broadcast will be about Shadeur. So mentally prepare yourself for that, whether you like him or not. Personally, I like the guy. Didn't really know much before about him and assumed he was going to be entitled but it doesn't come off that way when you see him speak and his actions there. -
What did you not understand? This stuff happened 10 years ago, it seems like none of it was criminal. In the interest of equality, and Watson getting his shot, I think Tucker deserves a second chance.
-
You're too meta to 10-4 that there ain't ya? No cap.
-
It shows a serious lack of care about what other people think of him, which is quintessential Gruden and why a lot of people, including people in the NFL, love him. He said what people say behind closed doors and as I said in an earlier post, if he had the right melanin count, it wouldn't have mattered. It's such a non-issue he still has open access all across the NFL. It was much ado about nothing from a guy who has been one of the guys going back to the 90's. The entire era around when this happened will be looked back on with disdain by most everyone.

It really is mind blowing how we went from being one game out of the playoffs after a complete meltdown by Ickey in a single quarter to trading the farm for Bryce Young and completely restarting a rebuild without having a real core of talent to build around. Pure lunacy.
-
Stewart is a Saint and a Good Man. I cannot take anything you say seriously until that is changed.
-
They sure seem to give him a lot of access to not want to risk their brand with him. If there was a risk, he would have zero access to any NFL facilities. He also had the Raiders on the right path after what was a massive rebuilding operation when these emails leaked. What you say may be true, but what made him popular wasn't the Super Bowl.
-
A lot of people do like him. Some of us grew up with Gruden as a sort of NFL icon and it wasn't because he won a Super Bowl or anything. It was the Chucky vibe, the intensity, the knowledge. He's just a cool dude.
