After the Indy game, Rhule said ,when asked about Hoskin, that he had a long way to go. So despite his success against 2nd and 3rd team offenses. He has a way to go to be ready to face 1st teamers.

We're only 5 days from having to be down to our final 53. I am going to guess we'll keep 50 or 51 of the current 80. With the trade of Perryman our depth at LB spot just got razor thin and I wouldn't be surprised if we sign one or two from team cuts. I also think that, depending on who is available, we'll sign a LT. IMO it will be an aging vet that we might get some use out of until someone is ready to take over the LT spot permanently. I think of the 11 draft picks. Fletcher and Hoskins are destine for the PS. There is no way Smith or Nixon stick on the PS. Some team will nab them.

I was all for PJ taking TB5 place last year because he brought energy and a flash to our offense. If PJ were to take Darnold's spot we better put our best pass radius receivers on the field. His accuracy is not very good. If there were a true competition at QB this year. IMO it would be Grier and that's a stretch. Darnold may or may not pan out. Neither Grier or PJ are the answer behind him. I wonder what the writer is going to say when we stash the competition on the PS.

PFFs top graded preseason rookie wideouts.

Marshall is my top rookie of our class. I love Horn and think he'll be Pro Bowl caliber DB. I think you are spot on about Marshall getting more TDs. Defenses do not want Anderson to take the top off their defense. Moore and Anderson will command double teaming. With the threat of CMC out of the backfield, I think TEs and Marshall from the slot are going to have a field day against opponents. In other words, Marshall will be the benefactor of great players around him. -
That's cause you have nothing to come back with. Fact is Fact. You can't refute actual evidence when it's on tape. Have a good day.

Everything I have read and heard about him is his motor is non-stop. They say not too many on the team can keep up with him. Another Jet castoff. I would love to see him on the 53 and playing in some defensive packages. We need guys like him. "He's always around the ball"

Definitely should be on our watch list.

As long as he isn't a O-lineman from Ole Miss. Still gun shy over that last one.

You're more worried about splash plays than being smart. With an actual game plan I have more confidence that Grier can execute it better than Walker. I was fortunate to be able to watch the game again yesterday on AFN. Grier looked solid and only missed one throw which was deemed a miscommunication (which happens in Preseason often). One play in particular that both QBs used was the deep pass on the right side. Grier hit Marshall in stride for a huge gain while Walker misfired on a pass to Shi Smith (who made an amazing catch out of bounds). Same exact play. Grier was on target while Walker threw it behind and out of bounds. Similar pressure from the defense and the QB released the ball unhindered by the rush. Grier on target, Walker Misfire. Grier should have looked better than Walker because the 2s are much better than the 3s. Comparing Walker (against the Colts) and Grier (against the Ravens) with the 2nd team offense you can see Grier looked more in control and not ready to abandon the pocket so quickly. While it is exciting to see him make plays with his feet the accuracy is scary.

Yahoo Sports simulates the 2021 season via Madden

In Quatrain 943 (the lost Quartain) Nostradamus says In the land of snowflacks and actors a black cat with multiple fangs (CMC, Moore, Burns and Chinn) will trounce and devour a feather headed monster that runs erratically and delivers darts all over a rectangular field. The carnage will be witnessed by 100,000 rabid animals and millions more will witness through signals out of the air. -

YAHOO SPORTS MADDEN SEASON SIMULATOR = NOSTRADAMUS SO IT SHALL BE. Who was it we faced in the Super Bowl -
Yes I tried to convince him that Grier, who I am not a big fan of, is better than PJ and runs the offense better. For some reason I thought it was 4 picks. The heck with 2 ints. How about a 24.5 QBR.
-
It should ease the minds of many here because Christensen was a LT too and move to the right. The difference is Christensen is showing promises on the right while Sewell is struggling. Maybe some of the haters will relax a bit.
-
One I don't dislike PJ. Secondly that's BS he can't throw deep. He hit Marshall in stride down the sideline. You have more excuses for PJ than you insist I do for Grier.
-
IMO whoever replaces Darnold is the odd man out. I think they will give whoever is behind one final shot with the 2s. Than again they want to solidify their selection by watching him one more time. I think it is Grier
-
I think the optimism is warranted. Since Rhule has been here our picks have been solid for the most part. 2020 has many starters and contributors to this team. 2021 has had many of our picks making plays. Not just one or two but many and I won't believe it is just because they are playing against the backups. I am not promoting rookie of the year honors for any of them but IMO they will contribute. Some more than others but they'll contribute.
-
He was beat but the ball was behind him and would have been picked off or incomplete. PJ got lucky. PJs shot to Shi Smith against the Colts that would be considered deep. Grier's shot to Marshall was considered deep against Ravens. I noticed you didn't recognize the comment about receivers not getting separation against Ravens. That's being smart and not forcing things. The difference for Grier is. He has the arm to make those throws. TB5 didn't. Grier looked more like a reasonable backup compared to PJ. Grier did better than PJ with the same squads. That said, I'd still rather have a veteran signed to backup Darnold but who I would choose would be Grier.

some good offensive line news...

You forgot "Time of Day" -
It absolutely boggles my mind how people cannot see the point of your post. We have 11 players that at some point during the preseason show that the can contribute. IMO Nixon, Taylor (injured) Fletcher and Hoskins have to show more for me to get super excited about them. The other 7 have shown enough to make me believe they are going to be solid contributors to this team and many of them this year. I couldn't agree more on Horn. He's going to get abused sometimes. He has all the tools but some of these veteran WR are going to make the Fields fans go ballistic. CB in the NFL is probably one of the toughest position to transition from college to the NFL. He'll take his lumps this season. Depending on his growth through the season could be the sole reason our defense is elite or just average. That said, I still love the Horn pick. He has the tools and potential to be a Pro-Bowl CB.

The only thing that PJ brings to the table better than Grier is his ability to extend plays with his feet but his accuracy can offset that ability.
-
Did you hear Rhule's comments about receivers not getting separation. You would rather Grier to throw into coverage for a possible interception? Or do what the defense is giving you. There is a difference between not throwing deep to a open target, ie Bridgewater, and throwing into coverage for an incomplete or interception. PJ's TD was intended for a different receiver. It just happened that Tremble came across and stole it. Had Tremble not been in the right place at the right time. That pass is picked off or incomplete because it was not on target. Please don't make it sound as if he was targeting Tremble. They even commented on who the pass was initially for.

I like Stafford and would have taken him over Darnold. Stafford had 4 winning seasons in his 12 years in Detroit. Stats aren't everything. You could say the same thing about Stafford as we do Darnold. Poorly run franchise, rarely a complete set of weapons and the need to move on. Both go to potentially potent offenses which should bring out the best in them. To say their isn't a comparison isn't accurate. There are a lot of similarities and plenty of things they don't have in common but to say their isn't a comparison is wrong.
-
I don't think that's the case at all. PJ against the Colts was throwing consistently inconsistent. Against a #1 defense those throws are INTs. Just like his performance against Detroit last year. PJ has a cannon and I love the zip on his throws but if they are that far off target those are picks against a good defense. Grier, when given time to throw, throws a much better pass. It's about 50/50 here. Don't hate because 100% is not behind PJ. I still believe we bring in a veteran to back up Darnold and Grier will be #3.
-
Interesting take. I like Grier over PJ. I think with the starting offense Grier has a better chance of executing the offense. I always see PJ as scrambling instead of standing in the pocket and making an accurate throw.
