QBs that are left in the playoffs by draft status.
Growl replied to Varking's topic in Carolina Panthers
It is bonkers there are still people trying to resist the reality of this. not just here I mean, though that too i mean running the panthers -
He was far and away the most qualified but wasn’t willing to be a yes man for a college coach
-
yeah so like rhule has been blathering on about this as his ideal offense since he got here most coaches who are stuck in this frame of mindset for offense and are determined to prove it’s still the way at least have the decency to offer up coachspeak publicly, “yeah well you always wanna cater your offense around your guys’ skill set and not get stuck into any one frame of mind.” rhule openly pines for a game manager QB and an offense catered around the run game.
-
so they don’t want those guys but they want the guy we can get so we give up the guy they want to get the guys they don’t want
-
wow buddy keep these hot takes outta here, you clearly just don’t see the value in showing every other franchise how smart you are

But how can I draft a QB if I don’t have every other position on the roster sorted out first?

there’s also a bunch of other weird inconsistencies here that don’t make sense the giants intend to take a QB but wait until their second selection to do so? Why would they do that? Why put a franchise guy at risk? if teams love a QB enough to come up for them, why would the panthers pass on him? To “get back picks from the darnold trade”…? Picks don’t fix the panthers. Valuable picks fix the panthers. A second would be nice (not the player you projected though) but it is vastly less valuable than addressing the need at the QB position. You can buy quality center play for pennies on the dollar. Nothing about this maneuvering improves the panthers chances of winning games. you have the panthers give up the 6th pick in the draft and all they get out of it are the literal Darnold trade picks they haven’t made up for yet, they don’t even get multiple 1’s?? do you have any idea how much valuable 6 is than 11?

Oof the goal of the draft is not to make Sonny SofaSurfer’s offseason more interesting by having Lots Of Picks. chasing your own tail trying to overcompensate for the mistake the darnold trade was would only be doubling down on that mistake. The panthers can work with the offseason they have relative to their needs. Overreacting is only going to make the problem worse. also all those picks are bad

A positional coach is never more important than a coordinator and “beefing up the OL!!!” is far from the biggest crisis facing this team.

After today, everyone should understand you need a QB

No argument here but I don’t expect Matt rhule to intentionally lay down and accept his fate just because I don’t like him, nor do I expect Dave tepper to long for a bad season just so he can rub it in Matt rhules face just because he doesn’t like him -

What an awful opinion matt rhule is paid to win football games, everyone desires that Matt rhule wins football games. Matt rhule is expected to do what it takes to win football games. Nobody cares about money or cap space or any of these meaningless things. They care about winning. At no point in any sport at any time has a scenario like you just described happened. -

If you don’t feel good about any QB you are almost always wrong and need to reevaluate your ability to scout talent -

With Mr Scot its more a resentment of the way the game has changed. Winning a certain way is just as important to him as winning. Nobody here misses the way the game was more than me but I’m not out to prove it should or can still be done a certain way. -

For starters, obviously yes, strong QB play turns teams into instant contenders. This is a proven reality many times over. Secondly, to willfully miss the reality that the draft doesn’t center around this year but the next 10 years is an indictment on your tiny perspective. -

it’s kind of a hilarious comment given how often a QB turns a bad team into a good one -
After the next few weeks, everyone should understand you need an oline
Growl replied to onmyown's topic in Carolina Panthers
A couple years ago I looked up how long it had been since a team had taken a OT in the top 10 and had that guy be an anchor on a super bowl run and had to go back forever the chiefs won one with Eric fisher since then but nobody would confuse him with being important to their success-especially the chiefs. offensive line is a really practical free agency investment, whereas conversely, a lot of the offensive lines on the list above have been together on bad teams for a while and only became relevant organizations once they found a QB..Dallas, Tampa, etc. -

What does this mean? do people who say stuff like this really not realize how small it makes their perspective look? there is a world and an offseason and offseasons beyond just what the panthers do with this one singular pick with this pick however, you have to abide by the mechanics and realities of the draft and how the league operates -

Growl replied to AU-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well in short the panthers didn’t draft a single other good player and nobody cared and it went on to become regarded as perhaps the best draft class in the history of the franchise because having an elite QB dwarfs everything else by comparison but also they probably should’ve gotten some more good players too, it was a great class -

Honestly the cam selection wasn’t luck (he went back to school) ill give Marty his due, he made that pick despite the world telling him not to because the media was telling him there’s no QB worth a 1st overall pick and the fanbase was telling him “games are won in the trenches” and to take the SURE THING in marcel dareus -

People here only hated the darnold trade once they realized it cost us draft picks for nothing. it was heralded at the time because we “didn’t have to use a 1st on a QB.” as if there is anything more worthy of a 1st round selection. -

I mean we tried that. Now we’re talking about improving the roster around darnold a bit more and hoping things get worse. and of course you’re still discounting a valuable and plausible opportunity at finding a franchise guy. Seems kind of bird in hand to me. -

I’m waiting to see who the OC is before i start gravitating to anyone. pickett’s got a lot of starts, could weather some bad coaching for a season. If I like the choice at OC, I may be willing to stretch a bit more. -

even if it flounders it’s far more conducive to your long term success to have josh Rosen lead you to kyler Murray than to have a parade of 1st round picks spent elsewhere i mean don’t get me wrong, the quality of the product was better when it was a team game. But it really isn’t anymore, not in the way it used to be.
