Moving on to the 2nd round discussion
Billy Goat replied to flagfootballcoach28's topic in Carolina Panthers
There will probably be a run on rushers early in the second round so the question is if they trade up or not. If they do it's probably best to do it before the run starts and have their choice of all of them, rather than panic trade when there's one or two left. -
A smokescreen in order to draft someone (Williams) nobody in the top 10 is going to touch. That's not really how smokescreens work.

All depends on who they trade with. If it was with the Bears as is speculated from Joe Person then it's only moving down two spots, so you probably would only get their 3rd rounder and would likely have to give them some day 3 picks. Or swap 1st/2nd rounders and give them a day 3 pick. I don't think they're going to get a second rounder unless they trade into the lower half of the 1st round, but it seems like most of the movement is from teams around them. In that case the trades are likely going to be mediocre.

As I said in another thread, you can pretty much guarantee they'll package some picks to move back up if they move down. So they won't be drafting more guys, just drafting more of the top 100 talent. We will probably get a late second rounder to move down in the first and then package a 3rd and one of the 4ths to move back into the end of the 2nd round to have three 2nd round picks.

With all due respect to Verge and her sources, there's too many people (those in the media who would actually have a clue) saying Walker is the guy for me to believe any talk of Williams being the preferred choice. Maybe if their absolute goal is to trade down then I can buy it, but I don't think that is in any way linked to creating a smokescreen around Walker. Nobody in the top 8 is going to draft Williams so why create smoke around Walker to blow them off the scent? My personal reading of the situation surrounding our first pick would be as follows Option 1 - Draft someone not expected to fall (Graham) Option 2 - Receive a good deal to trade down Option 3 - Jalon Walker

Ryan Fowler: Panthers hosting Texas A&M Shemar Stewart

They're probably looking at his RAS scores every day and salivating. The nightmare early pick. -
REPORT: Panthers like Mykel Williams

They have more control over what they do in free agency. The draft can throw up any number of outcomes in terms of what position gets drafted the most/earliest. If lots of DL come off the board between 8 and 57 they leave themselves needing to use assets to trade up or missing out on all the good prospects. -

What's his RAS score? This isn't another RAS pick, is it? -

The roster is in desperate need of another WR that's for sure, although I could still see them adding one in free agency so I'm not sold on them drafting one early. -

So what is your draft strategy after today?
Billy Goat replied to Panthero's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think i would still go Graham if he's there, second preference being the top WR and after that trade down. Im not convinced by any of the pass rushers (the ones that will be left on the board) to be drafting them at 8.
