  1. I was a member there. It's a great gym. When I went there it was super nice, very clean, lots of amenities. It was a little pricey but if you are going regularly I think it's worth the extra cash.

I dated a girl who was the GM of one of their megagyms.  The few in Charlotte are smaller then many of their other gyms.  They offer a poo ton of perks.  The one she was at had a dry cleaning service contract that would dry clean your suits and clothes while you worked out, for example.

The price weeds out a lot of the trash and d-bag kids.  But, you get a lot of prima donna / debutantes and yupy weekend warriors in the crowd.

    My bad.. yea lunk :P

Sooo, where is this gym you go to and am I correct to assume it is standard hours for the hotties?  Monday-Wednesday between 6-7:30?

  2. I have no idea... We got women wearing super tight clothes where you can see almost everything.  We got some guys wearing 1960's basketball shorts and no one complains.  The only thing my gym is against is dropping weight.  If they hear someone dropping weight they sound the "slung alarm".

thought it was called the lunk alarm

i may find your gym and visit it.  it's so easy and fun to go to a random gym and pick up a chick or two since it is not your home base.

  3. Does anyone by chance go to LifeTime Fitness in Charlotte?  I've never been to that location but been to another.  That's a damn nice gym, at least the one I visited was.

Also, anyone ever seen someone bail out from squats?  Anyone ever done it themselves?  It's scary as poo.  I saw a dude fail and fug up on squats - dude about poo his pants and fell completely backward - the cage caught him, luckily.  His form was awful and he was destined to fail.

Join Planet Fitness.  $10 a month and open 24hrs a day.

God.  I cannot join that place.  I walked in to one once while on vacation just to try to do something when I was bored.  I had some gym shorts on and a not super tight but body forming tshirt.  I was told that they do not offer trial memberships to people not interested in fitness.  I was confused and said I would be glad to pay for a days use.  They declined my offer saying that I was not dressed appropriately for their facility.

  4. I'm not really sure what you're getting at here?

When I've taken C4, which is not that much, or any pre without creatine, it's because I'm on the higher rep portion of my cycle.  So basically the exact opposite of what you're saying.

When I'm on creatine, I go heavy... when I'm off it, I go lighter higher rep and cut.

    This works well for me.

C4 is a fine pre, it's just one for me tho that I build up a tolerance to pretty quickly.  As in, I have to take more after about 10 days to get the same effect.

I think I read what you said backwards and what I said was backwards  Confused myself there.

With C4 I increase the repetitions because I do not feel as strong as I do when doing creatine or other supps.

A good supplement to use as a preworkout is Endothil.  I also like one that is coming back out Gakic.  It increases torque.  I know that is not an easy term to use in lifting and that's how they tag themselves, but I notice all around strength throughout my entire lift when I am on that stuff.

Post workout I swear by Afterglow.  It has the BCAA's needed, supercissis and proteins that make for a great postworkout.  I take 1/2 what they recommend and do just fine.

  5. I hate my shoulders.  I am not sure why but I have gotten weaker in my shoulders.  I have increased strength everywhere in the last year significantly thru hard training but my shoulders cannot do 4 sets of 10 at 135 anymore.  I can do 3 sets of 8 and one more until I fail at around 5 or 6.  I can do 4x10 at 105.  I just have got weaker there.  All the exercises have not improved and lowered except the raises.  I have got stronger there up to about 40-45# dumbbells.

    This makes me unhappy.

I just ordered BCAA supplement cause I'm always tired as hell the day after workouts... Anyone took BCAA before?  Any good?

The simplest thing I can tell you comes from my college strength training coach.  It's almost so old fashioned and stupid sounding you won't believe it would make a difference.

Eat a grapefruit before your workout, and eat one tablespoon of honey before your workout.  Then carry a water bottle with sugar in it if you absolutely need to.  After your workout if you're famished go for the honey and an orange.  Avoid the banana because he said it would slow you down to get your sugars.

The spartan beast is 12+ miles with 28+ obstacles. I think ours is close to 13 especially since there was a large gap between mile marker two and my marker three that was definitely further than a mile.

I was supposed to do a color race in Wilmington this past September but we decided to do a different race instead.

Great job.  I am very envious.  I hope to run a race sooner or later... just not making sooner before later.

I cycle on and off of creatine mono.  It will swell your muscles slightly due to water retention, but it's main effect for me is strength, esp on later reps when I'm lifting.

When I cycle off it, I notice that I don't get as many reps, particularly at a higher weight, than when I'm on it.

    It definitely works.

Have you tried to cycle anything in between your workouts?  C4 is often thought of as garbage because people don't know how to get the benefits of supplements.  With C4 you drop your reps and increase your weight.  Eventually, you'll increase your sets.

I've also got a question for you bench press experts.  Im trying to really build my chest. But I'm trying to do it without a lot of weight because I don't have a spotter. I can do 135 really well with good form.

What I've been trying lately is this:

    135 BP 3x8

Then in between those sets do incline bench press of 95 x 8

I don't exactly know what I'm doing. I'm just trying make sure I feel it in my titties the next day. I'm trying to build the muscle through reps not so much weight. But it's strange because sometimes I feel like I'll do this routine to where I won't be able to rep it anymore. But then when I finished a workout I can pull off a set of push ups and I'll think to myself what the hell?

Bench press is very overrated IMO.  On the flat I usually do not use anything over 225# for my working sets.  I some times go to 275 or 300 a few sets just to show off, but I'd rather do 225 on the incline to begin with.  The chest/pectoral muscles are very simple, just the sheet of muscle that is seldom used for much else.  It is usually your triceps that let you down before your chest.

So, like others said, increase your weight.

When you lift, even if you just do 45# with the bar, go until you cannot go anymore on the last set.  Do not focus just on squeezing your pecs, you only need to do that at the top of your lift.  Focus on bringing your elbows together as you lift, this will drive your arms up and pull your chest together.

Avoid the bar if you can, the bar is poison when developing a chest - especially for physical appearance.  It sounds like you want to add some titties to your frame.  In order to do this the decline bench is going to be your friend.  The dumbbell press and dumbbell fly on the decline will help you build overall definition and help create that shelf appearance.

When you finish your normal sets, though, go until you fail.  This is the best advice I could ever give someone on lifting.  Especially for their legs and quads.  If you think you're a man do your normal leg workout then go do 75 leg extensions at, oh, say 50#.

edit  I do not mean to be a prick saying this and only reiterating it because someone else said it above and I want to stress it.  Ask for a spot.  Ask any dude in there for a spot when you think you need one.  It will make you work harder and it is a good chance to learn from someone else on a few things.  I am generally the big dude in the gym who gets attention and people stay out of my way or ask me 1,000,000 questions.  The questions get old, but I will always spot anyone who asks - and so will anyone else by my experience.  Even if you do not know them.  Just ask, "hey man, can you spot me quick."

  6. So I ran the Spartan Beast this past Saturday, probably one of the more challenging things I've done to date, I'm still very sore and tired 2 days later.

And for the record I really did run the whole damn thing, a lot of people walk it. I even ran when the obstacle included carrying something heavy. On the one where you had to drag a concrete block with a chain I was yelling like it was a dog, telling it to hurry up.

what is the spartan beast compared to tough mudder or the maniac dash or any of the others?  I get confused on which is which...

i want to run a tough mudder and a color race.  the color race is supposed to be good because the women wear next to nothing.

  7. Eating/Diet is absolutely my biggest issue... I like food too much and when I'm lifting I stay starving all the time...

only surround yourself with food that is healthy options.

I'm not a big diet type of person but i look at what some diets do and adapt.  the paleo diet has some great ideas.  but i also have a farm and grow my own beef so that is a big help.

  8. a year and a half ago,  I fell down a metal staircase here in jersey. fugged up my back pretty bad. I was laid up for months. Couldnt move. Gained a poo ton of weight. I was around 500 lbs. i'm 6'3 and change. I workout 6 days a week (just lift on Sunday morns) I run walk 3 miles a day lift 5-6 days (altering body parts) and am now down to around a solid 320. Rehab got me back into working out seriously since playing ball in hs/univ.

Great work!  Keep it up!  Get that weight off before you get so old that you won't be able to shed it at all!

  9. If anyone needs a good chiropractor - I finally found.  I don't really do the silly new age stuff much but a good chiro can make a big difference.  In the Asheboro area, I drove about an hour to make a visit.

Huge difference, my lower back is moving again...

PM me and I will get you her info.

For all my weight struggles my legs are starting to look cut. I'll take it

Don't ever skip a leg day.

    Hey @jase

My god.  She makes that look easy.  Maybe she is a midget and those are only 15 lbs. plates!

  10. First night back in the gym started great, warm tingles all over the place. But then I got tired really fast. :-(

It'll get better.  Good job getting back.  I've known too many (including myself) who took time off and than it became a year or two...not so good.

    Good job!

How quickly do you lose muscle mass? I'm seeing a pattern with my weight. On weekends I rest and let myself have one cheat meal. Despite not working out and extra calories I lose 2-3 pounds and then Monday-Wednesday I gain or stay flat. By friday I'll drop 2-3 pounds again.

Can my weekend weight loss be lost muscle mass? It would explain why I gain once I get back to working out.

No.  Muscles don't work like that.  Muscle mass doesn't just go away.  Water in the muscles, may.  Atrophy takes a longer period.  If you're losing strength over the weekend than you need to check your diet and you just weren't that strong to begin with - sorry to burst your bubble.

No, you body fluctuates in weight around 5 lbs a day sometimes, depending on several factors like when and what you eat. No way you drop muscle mass like that over the weekend, you'd be dead or Justin Bieber.

No joke.  I wrestled in High School, was pretty damn good, too.  We would often check our weight like stupid kids and throughout the day we would watch ourselves gain and lose weight for no reason.  At all.  I lost 14 lbs. in one day when I was 5 lbs. overweight.  Turns out I was just holding some water and by the time of the match I was done.

  11. been gone a while, just now getting back to all this greatness!

I really am struggling with my shoulders.  They just aren't responding.  But, they're dense as hell, recover in seconds every time unless I really just break them down and than all they are is sore and achey like the old man I've become.  I know a ton of work outs but none are getting to it.  Any advice would be awesome!

Anyone do any smoothie stuff. I don't eat enough veggies and im debating drinking them. It would probably be cat if anyone has ideas lol

Any time you juice something it loses about 50% of its nutritional value.

Actually,on a serious note, I'm starting to get stretch marks around my biceps area. I can't find any good info online though on what to do other than a collagen and Vitamin A/E cream. Anyone else deal with this when starting back lifting? I've only been doing more weight for about 2 months as opposed to lots of reps at lower weight I was doing before to tone up. Should I stop moving up in weight till skin catches up?

No.  Just like vascularity , and already pointed out - it's genetic.  You're doomed.  Your sister - if you have one - will love it come child dropping time.

How often do you do a "cycle" of creatine? Do you feel like you keep your weight after you go off of it?

I tried creatine once for about a week but gaining weight hasn't really ever been an issue for me. Not in a good way.

You don't have to really cycle creatine but there isn't much of a point to be on it 24/7/365 unless you train like a barbarian gym rat no - life lift it up and down d-bag.

The weight just falls off.  Cycle creative with a good post workout.  Find some AfterGlow.  poo's good.

I don't take the creatine for "weight gain" per se...  I can definitely tell it fills out my musculature some and I always notice an increase in strength/stamina about a week and a half or so into a cycle.  Any weight gain I have from it is pretty negligible.

This last time I was on it about 2 months... that's a tad longer than normal, it usually runs about a month and a half for me.

Right now I'm trying to do higher rep stuff and more cardio.  I kind of got caught up in doing more powerlifting stuff because quite frankly it feels pretty good to pick up 500lbs + off the ground.

I'll probably stay off of it for about a month, or however long it takes me to run out of my currently pre-workout which has no creatine, then I'll cycle back on.

I know what you mean.  It's fun to watch guys look when you're deadlifting.  I don't go too heavy on deadlifting but doing 4 sets of 12 @ 365  and 2 sets of 6 @ 425 as a regular workout just for fun.

i'd rather rollerblade than jog.  more efficient, enjoyable, less wear and tear.   and (yeah, hard to believe) you look like less of a douche

I think we are soulmates.  I love rollerblading but no one will ever rollerblade with me.

Can I say that I can't wait to get to the gym Monday and get a pump again? I feel like a starving Somali child. 10 days without lifting.

Sent from my KFSOWI using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Well, I skipped Friday.  I was hungry for it today.  Especially because last week I nearly made myself pass out - I puked on leg day and had to lay down and rest for about 20 minutes.  Drank a bunch of sugar water, too.

  12. Welp I fell into a BBQ last Thursday at WeFest. Playing football n went to make a catch through a campsite in the dark. Pretty fugging stupid I know. Both my hands are completely fugged. Going to be a struggle not to turn into a slob over the next however long. Goal is to eat one meal a day since ill be burning zero calories a day.

I just hope I can hold weight again at some point in my hands. Not working out is the toughest part of all this.

don't give up on staying healthy.  don't spend that time doing something that isn't a step forward, try to find something that will give you exercise.  whatever you do - do not reallocate that time to something that will not benefit you.

maybe a good time to take up a second language or work on a new hobby / develop an old.

    good luck, keep us updated!

  13. I got your back.  I'm doing the same this morning.  Gotta sweat it out!

I'm attempting to work out with a hangover. Wish me luck.

Sent from my iPhone using CarolinaHuddle

do you two have sauna's at your gym?  i've never had the pleasure of a sauna after a hangover but have contemplated making an attempt...

My attempt at weight loss is over at 172 lbs, 12.4% bodyfat. Felt too small when I woke up this morning.

Never got all of the six pack, it was a 4-pack.

Sent from my iPhone while admiring feet using CarolinaHuddle

Keep working your abs out and it will come.  Just like the calf muscles, the abs need to we worked 5 to 6 days a week.

Can you guys tell that I eat out a lot on the weekends?

    fitbitweight080714.jpg

Does that motivate you once you see it or does it curtail your behavior beforehand in order not to feel shame?

I always found stuff like that just made me want to break the scale.  Then again, I lost 8 lbs. not working out when I got kicked from the gym.  The new gym is so much better, 24/7 and the owner is amazing.  I have gained 10 lbs. since working out in 4 weeks, my bench and squat went back up to par after 2 weeks.

  14. Says: "I'm not wasting effort talking about a preseason game."

.... does so after taking the time to log in on opposing teams' forum and talk trash.

Section 551 for me. Giant screen behind me has a spot blacked out in the dead center.

Sent from my SM-G900V using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

talking crap about a preseason game means even less then talking crap about a regular season game.

i've been around here almost a year.

  15. Things to watch from a Bills fan site:

    http://billsmafia.com/2014/08/07/buffalo-bills-preseason-preview-players-storylines-watch-carolina-panthers/

And things I will recomend watching or have interest to me:

    1)  The reps CJ Spiller gets.  ESPN and other silly sources are again quoting that the Bills are looking to send CJ out of town.  Well, a case can be made for him getting too little or too many reps.

    2)  Will Preston Brown, the backup LB to Brandon Spikes, play well?

    3)  Kiko Alonso went to WLB before injuring his knee, Nigel Bradham is in his 3rd year and will replace him.  He is suspended for the Bears season opener due to being an idiot.

    4)  Manny Lawson had a career year in 2012 and now relegated to backup.  Will he use tonight to tee off?

    5)  The Bills dominated the Panthers OL last year - I do not see much of a reason to believe the starters will stay in long.

    6)  The Bills have 4 outstanding backs (sort of wish Carolina would give up a first for CJ Spiller!)... Anthony Dixon is likely a hybrid FB/HB/TE type, Bryce Brown is promising and young, CJ Spiller is winded and needs a break and you cannot find a better back in this league the Fred Jackson.

    7)  We have some depth at WR.  Kevin Elliot, TJ Graham and the journeymen Chris Hogan (remember Hard Knocks Miami?  Mr 7-11 always open?).  That's for the 5th WR position - behind Mike Wiliams, Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin, Sammy Watkins.

30 minutes to kick off, Panthers football begins its 2014 season shortly!

Preseason football is still football. I still like whoopin dat azz.

But seriously, I'm a good sport.

Sent from my SCH-R970 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

I would rather us lose 1,000,004 to 2 and see the things I need to see then us win by 1 in the closing seconds or even a blow out.

  16. Lol at a Bills fan talking trash.

not talking trash, we lose every year. We don't care and we support our team. Most Panthers fans went in to exile until 2012.

    Got Jake ring a bell?

I'm not talking trash, just see no reason to waste effort talking anything about a preseason game. Its a good matchup to see how good the Panthers OL is, the Bills pass defense is, the Panthers to get time practiicing the run game, and the Bills to check depth at skill positions and hope we find a TE.

  17.  Brandon Spikes will see limited time, along with Kyle Williams. Alan Branch is no push over so he should be good to watch on matchups. Preston Brown is a rookie and will take over at ILB with Alonso out and once Spikes gets his snaps in.

The 2nd DL is alright, so try to get as much of what you can early because the front 7 for the Bills won't be playing long, Mario Williams included.

    My notables for tonight.

    • Can the new oline produce running lanes.
    • Can the tackles protect the QB.
    • K. Barner production. (I can't trust Stew to stay healthy).
I'll wait til next week before really taking a look at the rookies.

So if Jon Bon Jovi wins the bid to buy the Bills how long do you think it will take them to change their fight song to "Livin on a Prayer"?

he has no chance of winning the bid. Tom Pegula is the next owner of the Bills.

Can't type crap with sausage fingers on my tablet. Forgive my f-up, please.

  18. Havent posted in a while but my biceps are really starting to come along and my jump roping has really started to build my calves and thighs.

I went on a 3 mile run last week and I killed it no spoon. I didn't Hurun it fast but I was well paced and I didn't have any cramps. Im a 1 mile runner and go home, that hasn't really happened to me before. So I'm going to start running more during the week.

My deadlift has sort of gone down but not by a lot. I think it's mainly from skipping deads lately but I'm putting up 265 with good form instead of 310 all on my back which is a good thing.

I bought an ab wheel today because I really want some fuggin abs. The jump rope has given a slit hint of ab, but I want the whole 6 pack.

180 landmines and dragon flags make abs.
  19. You are 6'2" 220lbs  she is barely 5"3 and 110 lbs, you obviuosley need a lot more calories considering you are about a foot taller and weigh 100 lbs more.

At her height, to maintain with little exercise she needs about 1200 cals to maintain. If she exercises she could eat more.

I know it's not that simple but just because I am literally twice her size in weight, a foot taller and probably over twice her actual mass  - - - that if you just doubled 1000 cal... 2000 cal for me would not work, being active at least

I know, I know, it's not that simple, but even 3,000 calories a day when I am truly active will still allow me to lose weight.

  20. I'm 5'3 barely lol and am at 110 now. Not sure what my cal intake is a day. If I had to guess probably under 1000?

If your intake is under 1000, that means...well, you're ridiculous.  If I go that low I would either be dying or killing.

Just curious what it is that you consume in the given day?  MyFitnessPal is a decent app to give you an idea.

I am 6'2 1/2" and 220ish and have to have at least 1,600 just to function and average 2,200 a day.  Once in a while a $15 trip to Taco Bell happens, though.

edit:  I am also curious as to your age.  If you do not want to be specific, just say under 22, between 23-27, 28-32, or 32 or older.  Because as a woman if you're under 22 and eating that little you're not teaching yourself good habits.  If you're 23-27 and still that petite you need to pay close attention to what you actually eat because your body probably needs more.  And women over 32, I guess to put it best - I haven't met one woman who hasn't gained at least 40 lbs. between the age of 22 and 30.

    So be careful.
