3rd against the run is still 3rd against the run.

interesting.. I point out the Panthers weak schedule and you say thats invalid, a win is a win.

I point out Denvers run stopping defense and you cherry pick a couple games to say its not true.

so basically everything the Panthers do well is their advantage and everything the Broncos do well fits right into panthers advantage? interesting bias

You pick and choose facts to fit your nice little convenient narrative. If something doesn't fit, you ignore it or change the topic lol.

Why do you purposely choose to ignore our 31-0 thrashing of the Seahawks (before we went conservative burn the clock mode) and our 49-15 thrashing of the Cardinals (when we stayed aggressive). Who cares about the regular season, even if you think we had a weak schedule. The most recent games against the best competition (2 teams who are probably better than the Broncos) are better examples to analyze.

     innovative...

What an underestimating statement. The point is that the defense doesn't know who has the football and that makes them hesitate. Plus, they have to account for one of the best running QBs in the history of the NFL.

This was against the #6 run defense by the way.

Responding " sometimes an RB runs forward, sometimes the QB runs forward" to those videos sounds idiotic.

"The first thing that jumps out when you watch Carolina is how diverse the Panthers' run game is. A lot of it is a small selection of concepts (inside zone, power, and counter) with different wrinkles that don't really affect the offensive line (inverted veer is blocked like QB power, but there's a jet sweep read attached; they'll block inside zone, butCam Newton will have a triple option). But even acknowledging that they have a few base plays, they still break out enough plays outside of those concepts (I saw trap and a buck sweep that immediately come to mind) that you have a lot to prepare for. And that's just what they ran in one game where they were up by three scores from about the second quarter on."

There's a reason we have rushed for 100+ yards in like 30 straight games.

Broncos are 3rd against the run

Seahawks were 1st in run defense when we played them in the divisional round. Panthers ran for 144 yards. Our running game is non-traditional. It's extremely unique, multidimensional, and dynamic. Coupled with the 6th ranked run blocking (per PFF) and the threat of Cam's downfield strikes, we can impose our will with our smashmouth running game on anyone, including Denver.

Denver has only faced 2 top 10 rushing teams and got gashed by both: 113 rushing yards give up vs Vikings and 140, 102 rushing yards in 2 games vs Chiefs.

I understand your logic. But at the saime time Wade phillips is one of the best DC's if not the best in the NFL. He will have a plan. But so will we. Thats why I say we play a defensive game. Not any doubts in the Panthers. But more respect for the Broncos defense and Wade Phillips.

It's more that Wade Phillips current defense is built and schemed to handle statue pocket passers in a high volume passing offense and just a complementary running game. We're the complete opposite. We're a smashmouth offense (with the 2nd best O-line by PFF) predicated on a deceptive running game to set up the play action pass. Broncos shutting down Brady but allowing Luck to put up 27 and Ben R. to put up 34 on the Broncos is evidence of that. The Broncos only played 2 top 10 rushing offenses and got gashed by both. I'm confident we're going to counter their over-aggressive scheme with our running game. The media is doing their best to hype up the Broncos defense. It's really good but maybe equal if not slightly better than the Seahawks. Playing against the Seahawks has prepared the offense to play vs the Broncos defense.

I don't think it will be a low scoring slugfest because our offense is so dynamic and is clicking right now. But, even if it is, we still have an excellent chance to pull away because their offense vs our defense is a huge mismatch. Our interior pressure will give a 39 year old Manning all sorts of problems. In a slugfest, the Broncos defense would wear down with our punishing running game and TOP advantage in the 2nd half, allowing us to pull away.

This game feels sort of like the Giants game. Us (fans) underestimating possibly the greatest QB of all time? Their defense is #1 for a reason boys. We will have a very bad game on offense. But thankfully. I believe that we will shut down Manning and we win

    13-10

It's #1 in yards allowed. Points per game is a better indicator. By your logic, the Seahawks should have given us fits, but they didn't. The Seahawks were ranked #1 in ppg defense, Denver's 4th. The Seahawks ranked #1 in run defense, Denver's 3rd. The Panthers offense scored 24 points in the 1st half before going into run the clock conservative mode, which Rivera learned from and changed in the Cardinals game. Our deceptive running game will give the Broncos over-aggressive defense fits, neutralizing their pass rush and setting up some nice play-action downfield. The Broncos are not built to handle our offense, they're built for high volume passing offenses like the Patriots.

the same can be said about beating the Cardinals depleted defense. The sports contradiction game is too easy

You keep repeating this point without backing it up. So, missing one player Mathieu makes their defense depleted? Didn't they annihilate the Packers and hold them to 8 points with that "depleted" defense?

By your logic, the Panthers defense was "depleted" as well, missing Tillman, Benwikere, Jared Allen, and Thomas Davis for a half. But yet, they held the #1 yards/game offense to 15 points.

I'd argue the Steelers were much more "depleted": missing the best WR (who had 186 yards/2 TDs vs the Broncos), missing Bell and Williams at RB. When Steelers had Brown and Williams, they put up 34 on the Broncos.

  7. Seahawks fans are getting desperate. This is pathetic.

    http://www.fieldgulls.com/2016/1/2/10701790/cam-newton-mvp-carson-palmer-better-tom-brady-too

Do these guys realize all those fancy metrics don't account for context, like the offensive scheme and the offensive talent. Yes, Wilson is a very accurate passer, but his ridiculously high completion %  is hugely attributed to the West Coast offensive scheme the Seahawks run and a very sure-handed WR corps.

Seahawks fans are using a list of metrics no one cares about, like DYAR/completion %/QBR, to argue for someone other than Cam. Hello, TDs are what actually wins you games and Cam has 45 total TDs, is leading the #1 scoring offense, and has led his team to a 15-1 record.

I'm just glad since Brady and Palmer both lost, there's not even a debate and it basically forces the MVP voters to vote for Cam whether they like him or not.

This Giants team probably has the best chance to knock off Seattle in the playoffs if they are the 4/5 matchup, not that those chances are very good anyway.

A great tune up game for the playoffs and to see what we have in the secondary.

I'm not advocating losing on purpose but if the Panthers had to lose a game, with Atlanta next week and the Cardinals not having the easiest of schedules to finish the season, this wouldn't be that "bad" of a loss in the grand scheme of things.

The Giants defense is too bad to even give Eli/Beckham a chance to win. IMO, it's the Eagles. They've got the weapons and O-line to contest against Seattle. More importantly, they have the front 7 to disrupt Wilson. I also think Maxwell would want to play well against his previous team. If the Eagles beat the Cardinals, they will roll into the playoffs with some serious momentum. Remember this Eagles team somehow beat the Patriots in New England.

    How, exactly:

    • They can revolt by taking down a mid-tier Cowboys secondary forced to start rookie free safety Byron Jones in place of injured CB Morris Claiborne. The Dolphins beat him like a drum all day.
    • They can revolt by stifling a suddenly vulnerable-looking Cowboys offensive line that consists of Doug Free struggling against speed rushers and interior guards susceptible to talented, stunting under tackles (like Kawann Short.)
    • They can revolt by frustrating an incredibly emotional Dez Bryant into making stupid, game-losing plays (or lack of plays entirely.)
    • They can revolt by forcing Tony Romo into impressively desperate throws that invariably turn into picks, as happened multiple times against the Dolphins.
    • They can revolt by grinding out tough ground yards against a Cowboys defensive line susceptible to undisciplined run defense, poor contain, and consistently leaving gaping holes between guard and tackle.

How does the Cowboys' pass rush and running game look?

  10. Apparently, Mychal Kendricks says he's playing tonight. But, Eagles fans are saying they're most likely going to rotate him in, as he's coming off a sore hamstring. Anyone have an update on if Demeco Ryans is playing?

Edit: Update on SNF pre-game, Demeco Ryans inactive, Mychal Kendricks and Riley Cooper active.

  11. What I'm worried about is the quick passing game to negate our pass rush. The backup generator looked HOF on those quick throws.

It is a concern, but I'm not worried about it because we have Luke back. Without Luke, guys were badly out of position, there was minimal communication, and we barely countered any of the Saints last second shifts. Also, McCown has been in Payton's system forever and knows that offense back and forth. Meanwhile, Bradford is looking very rusty and the timing/quick decision-making just isn't there, which is what makes the quick passing offense work.

  12. Star/KK have the biggest mis-match against the Eagles interior OL, which has been very suspect thus far. If our DTs dominate this game, we will shut down the Eagles inside run game and force Bradford to check the ball down a ton despite the Eagles having elite OTs. Luke/TD will clean that up and force punts, allowing us to dominate TOP which will wear down the Eagles talented front 7.

  13. Two key strategies for offensive success IMO:

    1) The Seahawks will be without Jordan Hill, their stud DT. So, we need to run J-Stew up the middle relentlessly. Do not rely on the read option run game vs the Seahawks. They're way too good and fast at defending it.

    2) Get Ted Ginn lots of touches in the short and intermediate passing game as well as a few timely deep shots off play-action. Ted Ginn has elite speed and will be a mismatch all over the field. I really liked Shula calling a crossing pattern for him in the Bucs game. We need more of that.

  14. Man NFL really fuged us with the Greg Hardy situation, Imagine the DL and the secondary we would have had.

Remember though that Hardy was on a franchise tag 1 year contract. If we would have signed Hardy long term to a CJ-type contract, we would have to let Norman go after this year.

  15. Q: Now that you've given Newton a contract worthy of a top NFL five quarterback, what does Newton have to do to become a top five quarterback?

DG: Well, he's just got to continue to develop. You remember back in the day when you had David Klingler and Andre Ware? And you've had other quarterbacks that came out and had great college careers, and then it didn't translate. Obviously, with Cam it has. And it takes time. People have to remember. He only played one year of [Division I] football. Really and truly.

I had a reporter come in my first year and he started banging on Cam. I said, 'Listen. How long have you been a sportswriter? How many articles did you write your first two years that you’re proud of?' I told him we all have to grow into our jobs. Everybody. You have to allow players to. You’re not going to have instant gratification with players, but they’re going to get better as long as they put in the time ... which our guys go.

He's developing at a solid rate. We’re excited about having him. He just needs to continue to hone his game."

Q: Much has been said about Newton's lack of passing efficiency (59.5 percent in four years). What are your thoughts on that?

DG: He'll get better. It's like anything else, he'll get better. I get frustrated because everybody wants a guy to be great yesterday. It doesn't work like that. And oh, by the way, he’s trying to do his job while people are trying to rip his lungs out. People don't want to get it. We gave him what we gave him because we believe very strongly in him.

Q: How do you want to see Newton progress as far as balancing the pass versus his run, understanding the risk of him being a running quarterback?

DG: You don't take away a guy's strengths. You don't do it. If a guy is really good at something, let him play the game. He's going to be fine.

Q: You mentioned at the time Newton signed the extension that he could take this team to the Promised Land. How close is the roster to being good enough that he can do that?

DG: Right now we're 0-0 like everybody else. We're tied for first place. You've got to see what the season brings. I feel strongly about the roster and I feel that strongly about Ron [Rivera] and the coaching staff. Ron's teams consistently get better.

I feel good about us. I really do. This is as strong a group of wide receivers as Cam has had around him. The running back group is solid. Fozzy [Whittaker], that was a great pickup by [director of pro scouting] Mark Koncz and his staff. I feel good. I feel strong about the offensive group around Cam.

  16. Jake Long (30 yrs. old), Sam Baker (30 yrs. old), and Anthony Collins (29 yrs. old) are still available.

We almost signed Collins last year. Collins could be a decent backup LT. He started 7 games at LT for the Bengals in 2013 (posting a +16.3 PFF grade) when Andy Dalton passed for 4,300 yards. After a terrible year with the Bucs, he would not cost that much.
