Tommy Jone strikes again! If there's any upside, Brock Purdy just had it and he seems to be about where he was before.

If I had to bet money, Canales getting a mid-round prospect he likes is the most likely option. Ditch Dalton and have BY start the season until the new guy is ready. If we are really lucky, then we find a Russell Wilson and BY still has value as backup. Ah, I see now. Daniel Jones is getting benched so Drew Lock's going to get a chance. That's actually not the best scenario since he'll either stink and we won't want him, or play well enough for the Giants to keep him or he'll demand too large of a contract for a new team which he'll get because the FA market stinks.

We all have the list of FA QB's for 2025; it's not very good. We are also likely not in a position to grab a QB high in the upcoming draft and/or Canales may not think any of them are really his guy. In that case, one really needs to get the most value of what's already here. We have BY under contract for two more years. Dalton is going to be an additional cost to keep. There has to be enough about Dalton to justify keeping him around in some capacity.

A lot of this is gamesmanship. Of course Canales is going to keep his opponent guessing, even though it may not matter that much. The Dalton comment tells me there's an open question on whether he's worth re-signing. Frankly, the best role he can serve given his age is to play within himself and not commit major mistakes. In other words, keep the seat warm until we eventually find a better guy. Even in that Raiders game, he got really lucky with some passes not being picked. Then his play was hurting us to the point in which Canales didn't immediately throw him back in last Sunday. For all we know, Canales wants to see if BY could at least be good enough that we don't need Dalton back as a backup anymore. Then bring in his own guy.

Possibly but we've thrown other random guys out there with little tape and that didn't help us one bit.

There are over 50 players on this roster, many of them on the younger side. They may not that good right now, but they are still competitors. Telling them to not work as hard, that we don't want to win, to say that the organization cares more about getting the next best 7~10 players in the draft than themselves, congratulations. You're going to lose the entire team. You'll get the HC/GM fired. Tanking only digs the hole deeper because it's a statement that the moment things seem to go wrong, well'll blow everything up and start over. This has to stop. Maybe not everyone we have right now are long-term answers but there's enough promise to say we could start building a new foundation, and that should include a winning culture. Let the organization handle the draft situation however it falls. To the players, it shouldn't matter.

They should be okay with the playoffs but if they could choke such a gimme game away, who knows. Absolutely have to play better.

Lions win by a sliver! That's a bad loss for the Texans.

As was Fairbairn's field goal attempt.

Dammit, Jake! Oh, sorry. Dammit, Jared!

Remember when Goff was playing nearly perfect football? Boy, the law of averages is hitting hard.

I was going to say our division stinks yet again although... I know the Dolphins haven't played yet but yikes. Bills now know what it was like being the Patriots back in the day.

Biggest factor is not so much the offense, per se, but whether our defense can keep up the big boost in performance from historically awful to spurts of competence. That said... Chiefs: Bryce could have his career best day while the defense plays inspired and we still lose because they have the football gods (and the refs) on their side. Bucs: Mike Evans should be back by this point. That's not good news for us, but division games are always a wild card. Really comes down to whether we can get Mayfield to have a performance like today against the 49ers. There's a chance but not a great one. Eagles: Too much offensive power to counter. Cowboys: Most winnable game. If today's performance is their baseline, might also be the only time we'll be favored to win. Cardinals: This is an odd one. They're leading their division and seem to be playing better than expected. We did lose the last time we faced them, but we historically tend to have their number for some reason. One of those games where we could either lose as expected or mysteriously blow them out. Bucs: I'll say it comes down to whether our unit as a whole keeps getting a little better with more games. Falcons: I'll say no because even if we do get better over time, we can't win a shootout with them.

Looking at some more overall stats today, some things stick out with the passing. Russell wins but with a 50% completion ratio and just shy of 200 yards. Herbert won only with 164 yards. Mahomes YPA was a mediocre 6.3. Mayfield, 116 yards! Kyler Murray was 22/24. Also, Chuba's still the rush leader so far. With a bit of luck, he'll be the top rusher this week.

At this rate, December 15.

I think Lance just answered your question.

Let the Cowboos reign.

I made myself suffer and watched that game's "highlights". Obviously couldn't get a full picture, but their tackles were iffy and the O-line generally did not hold up well whenever the Patriots brought pressure. Pass/run ratio also not good.

I could see Daboll getting fired and then going to the Bears believing he could work with Caleb.

Chicago QBs getting sacked had been a problem in the past. The fact that it's happening again tells me there's a deeper issue. Maybe the line is bad and/or the offensive scheme is getting their QBs killed. Whatever the case, this is how you ruin your rookie QBs. This is how they pick up bad habits and lose their confidence.
-
Just took a peek at some stats... Caleb Williams - 16/30 120 Yards, 9 sacks! All that investment on offense and they do worse than us? What is going on?

Jacksonville D blows it with a silly penalty for the L.

Denver's GW kick got blocked. Of course it did.

Second week in our row our defense had stretches of looking like an actual defense. And the turnovers, those were impressive. Tipped pass INT, juggling a slightly behind throw INT and then a peanut punch fumble that decided the game. - Chuba, obviously. - Numbers aren't explosive in the slightest but Bryce did have some good throws, avoided any major mistakes and some of his bad habits like scrambling out of the pocket prematurely and taking unnecessary sacks were not really there. Going back to Dalton feels more like a sideways move now, especially how awful Dalton fell off. - Legette and Coker co-leaders iin receptions. They both did have a bad drop but then again, they are both rookies. Even if BY doesn't work out, these kids aren't going anywhere for a while. - Eddy P didn't Gano the game-winner.
