Our top two corners are hurt. Just how deep do you think the average NFL team is at that, or any position? Watson was generally accepted to be largely driven by Tepper. As to Wilson, there's no indication we were "in on a deal" for him, or did anything more than just make a phone call or two to check

Add Callihan to the list of Wilks supporters as well...

As to the topic... Speaking as someone who's lost my mother (to whom I was very close) my father and my brother, I can understand. My mother's death came just six weeks before the woman I'd been in love with for the past five years (and engaged to for a year and a half) left me, largely because her mother was a b-tch from hell (long story). I was, shall we say, unwell for a long time after that, but things get ultimately get better. Regarding the game, I've been a football fan since I was five years old but from the mid '80s until the Panthers came into existence I didn't really have a favorite team. I just watched the game For the love of it. And yes, there have been times when I've been tempted to go back to that status I haven't because growing older has made me more "fan" and less "fanatic". Losses hurt, but only about as much as a sad movie ending. And honestly, for as much as I might grouse about it, having a wife who's also a football fan helps because we can enjoy the games together. So bottom line, as simplistic as it might sound, the best thing I could say to anybody would be this: As much as possible, indulge in the things you enjoy and avoid the things you don't. As you get older, the difference between those things tends to get a lot clearer.

I remember a while back someone tweeting about how Tom Brady almost got his team to the Super Bowl and agreed to take less money to help shore up other positions while Russell Wilson didn't even make it out of the first round of the playoffs and was asking to have input on the Seahawks draft. Wilson seems to be one of the least self-aware people in existence. I can only imagine what the Seahawks had to put up with while he was still winning.

I'd love to know the thought process that went into that decision. It's probably a lot like the one that resulted in someone paying Pauly Shore a lot of money to star in movies

Rivera not going with a rookie QB? Who could have predicted that?
-
Quinn wouldn't be my choice either, but I wouldn't go that far. I'd at least wait to see what kind of offensive staff he built. From the stuff we've been reading lately though, I don't think it's gonna be a defensive coach. (which I'm fine with)

Yeah. I've seen them linked to both Harbaugh and Payton. Have seen Bieniemy's name thrown in there too.

Ben Johnson vs Shane Steichen
Mr. Scot replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Side Note: No interest in Shane Waldron? -
Can't say he doesn't deserve it... And it's a good time to remember just how big a bullet we dodged in that story.

Meanwhile up in DC... There was a quote posted earlier where Rivera indicated he didn't know they could be eliminated from playoff contention today.
-
Watson's not exactly making a case for it in Cleveland. Other owners hated the Browns for that. They're probably getting a good laugh out of it now.
-
I don't really doubt that they want to pay him. I'm just not sure they can be convinced on the "fully guaranteed" part. (and I honestly don't blame them for that)

Could be worse... Schuyler Callahan was a Big Matt Rhule defender. (so was Kyle Bailey)

Albright has been extremely hit or miss when it comes to Panthers stuff.

Ben Johnson vs Shane Steichen
Mr. Scot replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
We've since learned from behind the scenes chronicles of Rhule's tenure that the relationship between he and Tepper actually soured pretty quickly. I:ve called Tepper "football stupid" before. Objectively speaking, I don't necessarily believe he's stupid. I do believe he's nowhere near as football smart as he thought he was. The biggest question for me this offseason is whether he understands that now. There are at least some indications that he does. -
Wilks and Shane Steichen were on staff together for a year in San Diego and have some common acquaintances between them. Whether or not that would be anything meaningful? Unknown.
-
Said it elsewhere and I'll repeat it here: Steve Wilks is a high character, strong leadership guy that brings good qualities to any organization he's part of. Those qualities are what I care about. I wouldn't give a sh-t if he was from Timbuktu.

Steve Wilks most certainly provides the kind of strong, high character leadership that you want in your organization. I don't think he'll get the head coaching job, but I'd still love to have him be part of the staff. Don't really think that'll happen either, but it's possible..
-
I don't see anything there that sounds like him blaming or scapegoating Darnold.
-
Yes, I have. He's a great college quarterback. I'm not convinced he'll be a great pro quarterback.
-
I don't think he'll get the job either, but I wouldn't necessarily put the chances at zero.
-
I would vote "no." but John Ellis and Mike Kaye think there is. Do they have a point?
