Well, as I pointed out in my above post, the good news is, Seattle killed it during his tenure there in maximizing value in the middle to late rounds of the draft, they had numerous all-pros, with a couple even coming out of the 5th round, and of course they got their franchise QB in the 3rd.  And as bad as a rep as they have a it first round picks, when you hit like that and develop talent on the later picks, it really doesn't matter.  Dame thing with NE.  Belching has been notoriously bad in the first round, and also has always had a penchant for trading back and out, yet they develop lower round talent and UDFAs that make up for the busts in the earlier rounds (it doesn't hurt to have the greatest coach/cheater the game has ever seen either lol).  So, that has been my feeling all along...  if you know you're getting a sure thing in a trade using your first rounders, you do it, especially if your staff has a knack for developing talent regardless - which Rhule showed the ability to do even in year one...  and now we have Fitterer in the mix coming from Seattle's school of thought?  I am excited as I've ever been moving forward.

I remember Seattle drafting some guy named Sherman in the fifth round a few years back.

That same year, we used our (higher) fifth rounder on Kealoha Pilares. Also spent earlier picks on Sione Fua, Terrell McClain and Brandon Hogan.

I know this is what Fit is saying now, and I'm genuinely excited about the hire, but I'm curious who was making the majority of the decisions in Seattle?  Because their offensive line had long been regarded as one of the worst even after they drafted Wilson.  Their defensive line has always kind of been a potluck of "ok" vets and young guys that never really pan out to their full potential.  It seemed their scheme was heavily based on the secondary, defensively.  So, I'm wondering how much input he had there if that has always been his philosophy?

I've really liked everything he has said thus far, but I'm just curious as to why it seems Seattle's setup wasn't representative of his philosophy.

From what I've read, I think that comes from Pete Carroll.

And for sure, he'll be working with Matt Rhule so whatever Rhule prioritizes, he will too.

  3. From the article...

"But before we do anything outside, I need to figure out who's here. I need to figure out this roster. I need to figure out who's on our offensive line, who's on our defensive line. I know them from a 30,000-foot view, but I need to know them from a coaching standpoint, and a personal standpoint, and meet these guys and see what they're made of.

Confirming again that the trenches are central to his team building philosophy...

If Fitterer is correct, then there are maybe 6-8 franchise qb's in the league.  Wilson, Rodgers, Mahomes, Watson, Brady, maybe Allen, and I can't really think of anyone else.  Our odds of getting are fairly slim.

My significant other would say Dak Prescott.

(I'm not sure I would but I can't say that out loud)

  5. I'll say this.

I know people have talked about how the Seahawks got Russell Wilson, and extrapolated that to say that you could get a franchise quarterback without necessarily using a high pick.

While that's technically true, it's also extremely hard, and I think Fitterer knows this. Guys like Wilson and Brady are lightning in a bottle, the exception rather than the norm.

I don't believe for one moment that Fitterer's going to try to duplicate that here, nor should he.

He's accurate. He's smart. But his arm is average and his mobility is below average. Sounds like Tom Brady, right? Well, the problem is that there's a long list of NFL busts that fit that description and not many Tom Bradys. NFL prototypes exist for a reason.

Fitterer mentioned arm strength as something he values in a quarterback.

I'm at work, planning to watch it later for sure but a brief synopsis in the meantime would be nice...

Scott Fowler asked him a question about having "his guys" in charge now.

Tepper mentioned that he got some criticism for his moves early on citing that some people "said I got rid of Rivera too early...moved on from Rivera too early".

He did acknowledge that the team is now run by people he chose rather than people he inherited. As such, there's no one else to blame if things go wrong.

Going back to Fitt's opinion on draft pick values and that 16-18 cutoff for elite talent...

Does that make it more likely for us to move up in the 1st or trade 1sts for Watson? He said they aren't looking for quick fixes but are looking for a quick turnaround. I presume that means he doesn't anticipate a great chance at those future 1sts meeting that 16-18 cutoff.

Gut feeling: I think he's given at least some preliminary thought to trading up.
