  1. Did chest yesterday and was all psyched up ready to hit it hard and I tweaked my (non repaired) right shoulder 3rd set in...  argh.

Rest of the workout was a complete letdown.

    I blame Jase.

Ugh I'm sorry, no fun. Hope you can get back to it soon.

  2. Good luck with Gamma.  Speed 3.0 is a KILLER.  And I don't know how anyone can get through the pyramid push ups.

Just finished The Pyramid.  Are those the ones you're talking about? Because  I NAILED IT! :) The ab sequence after the push ups burned like a mother fuger though. I want to try Speed 3.0 soon, might have to move a few things around.Speed workouts kill me and make my feet hurt.

  3. I finished Gamma the day before I left for the beach.  It coincided with the holiday perfectly.  I'm starting the set over again with Alpha, and I did the Cardio disc today, and I'll probably add variations to increase the intensity since it is the beginner part.

    Nice! Good job.

I typically do two T25s when I do T25 workouts, I'm curious to see if I'm able to handle it now that I'm doing some Gamma workouts.

    Good luck! :)

  4. Got T25 Gamma today. Started with Rip't Up.  Good stuff.

and yeah too much beer and wine this weekend and one night I had a smores brownie and some of a cheese dip. I felt sick I guess because I'm not use to that crap. I did better this holiday then I typically do.

  5. After two full months I am down a total of 40lbs. Year to date I'm down 45.

Got at least another 45 to go but I'm happy with my progress so far.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for the support/motivation.

That's freakin awesome! I know that's not easy. You should be super proud of yourself.

  6. Some creeper interrupted my workout yesterday to tell me Smitty is not the greatest Panther of all time. Dude, I'm doing squats right now, jeebus.

I think I'm gonna start leg lifting with weights. I love my muscles and I want more. Nothing crazy, but my legs have seriously never looked better.

Go for it! I've been doing leg lifts with ankle weights and am seeing nice thigh muscle definition mainly in the back which is where I need it.

I saw a pic of Jessica Simpson and she inspired me. She was pretty big not long ago and her leg muscles are insane, not sure I want that much but still impressive.

  7. Maybe I'm misunderstanding:  You alternated pull ups and burpees?  Or you did 8 of one movement, rested for a minute, and then 8 more?  8 doesn't seem like a lot, but then again, I don't know how long that went on.

Sounds like a fun workout.  I feel like you got your variety in without knowing it, though.  After all, you said you had never done cross fit before, so there you go--something different.

The pull up/burpee went for 16 mintues.  First minute you do 8 pull ups, next minute you do 8 burpees, next 8 pull ups, then the next minute 8 burpees. Obviously when you start it's quite easy and the first few rounds you have a lot of time left in that minute to rest. As it gets harder it takes you more time and you get less of a rest. Since I was using a band to do pull ups I had about 35 seconds of rest each round making it not to difficult for me.  My husband didn't use the band for pull ups til the very end. Bascially you're doing 64 pull ups and 64 burpees within 16 minutes.

edit: As far as variety, I meant I like more than just a handful of moves.

  8. Did cross fit last night followed by a yoga class. They had a bar and we did back squats to warm up. One each time and then you add more weight until you max out. I didn't realize that was how it worked or I would have kept going, I stopped at 105 lbs. could have done more especially since it was just one squat. I thought at some point we'd be doing more than one squat ( my silly assumption).  Then we did 16 minutes of pull ups and burpees (8 pull ups every other minute, 8 burpees every other minute). I used the band, so the pull ups were easy, burpees were fine, by the end we were drenched, It was fun, they split you in groups of two so you had a team feeling/competition feeling going on and a time limit.

Overall I don't think it's for me because I like longer work outs with more variety however it even further my interest in getting a bar for my house. Squating with dumbbells feels very different.

  9. One night our Krav Maga instructor phoned in sick at the last minute, so they merged us with the CrossFit class for a night. We had all been joking about it, because to the MMA guys, we all just thought that CrossFit was just the gym equivalent of Zumba, because it was basically just an all girl's class, and involved no contact. I can that Biscuit is right about one thing; you get out of it what you put into it. I remember being so exhausted that by the end of the class I couldn't lift myself off the mat. But that was also probably a function of a) being in a room full of my buddies doing what we considered a girly exercise program, and no one wanted to half-ass it, so we all went 100% the whole time, and B) it was a room full of hot 20-something chicks in yoga pants. Of COURSE we were trying to show off.

But that was about 4 years ago at this point. When we did it, it was basically an Insanity workout, with some kettle-bells, jump rope and pull-ups sprinkled in. Who knows how they run it now? It seems like they just do absurd workouts and bizarre techniques in an effort to seem hard core. But before you discount it, go check out the class and see how they run it. It all hinges on the instructor. See if they are just doing showy stuff. Because outside of the day we did a Tabata workout in class (4 people out of about 24 threw up), that CrossFit was the most exhausting workout I ever did.

Insanity with some pull ups and weights thrown in sounds awesome.

I'm trying to keep an open mind going in. I doubt i make the class a routine, since I enjoy working out at home and it doesn't take me away from my kid that much. He's out of town this week so we have a list of everything we want to try together but never have the ability to do it.

  10. crossfit

What make something Cross fit? I dont plan on doing this long term. I'm curious what makes a workout a Cross fit workout, it seems people are just making up their own WODs.

  11. You can make a pretty healthy one using Naan or Lavash bread. use the marinara sauce from whole foods, some fresh mozzarella cheese and a little basil and you have a much healthier version. I would also use Paul Prudhomme pizza and pasta seasoning.

Result is much healthier lower calorie, no gmo, preservatives or additives that taste awesome and won't ruin you daily calorie count.

    Which bread do you prefer?

  12. One bad day every once in a while won't kill you just like one day every once in a while of eating healthy and exercise won't make you better

After several weeks of very healthy eating, last night I had 1.5 glasses of wine, movie theater popcorn and an oreo. I got up and felt fat. Sometimes I'm so fuging insane it scares me :)

  13. Oh no doubt the units have to work harder, but we've noticed for over a month that they seem to have it turned up more than last year.

It's noticeably warmer in there even if it's 80 outside.

Annoying, that should be a top priority.

Could be they aren't calling for less cooling just that they need to make some repairs to their units, either way if they don't fix it they are being cheap bastards.

  14. Our gym has definitely turned the AC up as well... it gets too warm in there... It's 95 outside here today so we'll see...

With the outside temp and lots of people working out and people going in and out it's gonna be hard to meet set point.

  15. Honestly at your level of fitness your weight is pretty irrelevant.

I would like to lose a few % points of bodyfat myself, but I couldn't care less what I actually weigh.

I've been hovering around 215 for about 2 years, only now I have more muscle and less fat than I did both when I was heavier and lighter.

After my surgery I almost hit 230 in 2011... then I got it down to below 210 in mid 2012... now that I'm at 215 and fit, I'm much happier with my body than I was at either of the other weights.

I agree, weight really isn't relevant to me.

  16. Only way to know that cat that I know of is to test your bodyfat %.  Unless the loss is noticeable to the eye... or take progress pics.

I did take some pics. Figured that would be useful.

Losing weight wasn't necessarily what I wanted so I'm not so sure it's a good thing or not.

  17. How do I know if I'm losing fat or muscle?

I've lost 4 lbs in the past 2 weeks.  I have a scale that shows body fat % but it's all over the board with me so I don't trust ie: yesterday it said i was at 18% and today I'm at 20%. Few weeks ago I was at 22% and it's shown me at 17% before which i don't believe.  So i don't really trust that.

I am eating less calories (maybe 1400-1700 per day), very few bad carbs, practically no sugar and lots of protein. I'm going heavier with weights, but have reduced my extreme cardio workouts which include a ton of push ups (knee problems). Still working out about 45-60 mins a day 6-7 days a week cardio and weights.

I have very little fat to lose (not trying to be braggy) but it's there, I can see it on my inner back thighs and outter butt, in certain lighting i can see the cellulite, so I know I've still got some fat to lose and i'm really trying to get it gone. I hear that stuffs a bitch to get rid of and it doesn't bother me that much but I'd like to attempt to get it gone.

Any opinions or suggestions to help out?
