  1. Like I said in a previous post, I'm reducing my sugar intake. Haven't had a sweet in over a week which is amazing for me because I eat them almost daily. I just realized I stopped craving something sweet days ago.

Best of all I have reduced my child's sugar intake to under 30 grams a day, except on Sunday when I allowed him two small brownies.

Max amount recommended for kids has been hard to determine, every source I read is different, however reducing it dramatically was my goal and so far so good. Breakfast has been a pain in the ass though.

  2. Did you watch it locally or online? I saw them interview the guy that made it on Real Time last week and wanted to see it but couldn't find it locally. Sugar is basically the new cocaine and the addiction starts young. If you enjoyed that, you may want to check out Hungry for Change, awesomely informative documentary!

    http://www.hungryforchange.tv

    Thanks

I watched it at Park Terrace

  3. Ask your husband which he would prefer you lose it on...  I think you might find you're good to go.

Maybe so, It's more of a tone thing then size. I think if I lost a small layer of fat i'd have one of those rather muscley bootys which is what I really want.

  4. Ask your husband which he would prefer you lose it on...  I think you might find you're good to go.

Speaking of my husband, Holy poo he is getting huge. He takes off his shirt and I'm turn into a babbling fool. I'm tryin to complement him and I'm just speechless. It's fuging awesome

Going on 14 years of marriage and i never expected him to buff up like this.

So while getting in shape for yourself is likely enough motivation, If you're needing a little more don't forget how awesome it is for your significant other.

  5. Always heard sugar is really bad for you... But it tastes so dammed good.

Think the three lbs is fat or muscle?

I'm not sure. I think I have as much muscle as I did, my stomach is looking more ripped. I always lose in my stomach why not my ass?!!!!!!!

  6. So i'm on a reducing sugar kick. I've been reading about it and trying to reduce my sons sugar intake which is harder than one would think. I watched the documentary last night called Fed Up and I'm going to put more effort into it for myself and my son.

  7. Question:

The middle upper part of my back is sore (trap and neck muscles) and feels tight. I'm thinking it has to do with squating with heavier dumbells, My question is, do you think that's a sign of bad form with my back and shoulders or is that typical when making a weight change?

Tempted to up my squats to 60lbs but my knee still feels shakey when I squat. :(

  8. I'm not really wanting to look like the lady in the top pick. Don't get me wrong she is attracitve it's just not my thing.

Thanks for the tips. I use to lift more while doing squats when I went to the gym. I don't know why I've never really uped my weight doing squats however my workouts are more fast paced and higher reps. I'll do a few extra sets of squats after my workout with 40lbs. and see how the ol knees hold up.

    thanks :)
  9. Question:

I keep reading that I should be lifting heavier because it helps burn more fat and that I wont bulk up anymore because I don't have the testosterone.

    Anyone here agree or disagree?

Also remember, recently my arms have gained more muscle than I like, so I'm already bigger than I care to be

  10. The way I started doing moves that I couldn't perform initially (chin ups come to mind) is to cheat on the way up and slowly lower myself down with good form.

So for a pull up, I would use a chair or get a jumping start to get to the top of the movement, then slowly lower myself down.

For push ups, similarly you could push up from your knees to get up to the top of the movement, then lift your knees up and slowly lower yourself down.

That's exactly what my husband and I did to achieve pull ups, chins ups etc.

  11. That's damned impressive Cat... I wonder how many women (or men for that matter) can do 20 pushups?

Have you tried to see how many you can do at one time?

I did last year when Panthro was talking about that pushup challenge and got 49... my pecs were burning so bad I had to stop...  that's a very aerobic activity as well.

Oh yeah, at this point with a brief break in plank i can do 60.

    and thanks :)

My workouts include a LOT of pushups.

edit: ok just verified, at this moment with a brief break in plank I can do 52. 30 straight then I need to catch my breathe.

  12. How long does it take to build up more strength in the upper body? I've been doing a lot of exercises for chest and arms/back for months but am still fairly weak in that area.????

Sent from my iPhone using CarolinaHuddle

Hard to put a number on it. I can only go off my experience I went from not being able to do one standard push up to easily popping out a set of 20 in less than 2 months.

  13. Yeah I've seen arguments for and against it. This article says 3-5 hours after your last meal. I don't eat anything after 7pm and get up at 5:15 and workout from 6-7am. That's almost 12 hours. You think it's still ok to go on an empty stomach?

If your body can do it, I'd wait to eat.  Just my opinion. How long are your workouts?

  14. Cardio. I'm trying to lose weight and tone. At first I wasn't eating before my workout but a couple of weeks ago I started having a protein bar. I've also tried a handful of almonds.

This is from an article I posted a few weeks ago.

    3. Train on an empty stomach. Work out three to five hours after your last meal (depending on the size of your meals). This ensures you've been able to convert that meal to muscle glycogen, so you can train your hardest and maximize your body's ability to use fat for fuel. A University of Birmingham study bolstered the effects of this long-time sports practice in 2010.

  15. Never heard of T25. Will have to look into it. I would love to get back into P90X. I used to do it 6 days a week. The only issue now is a DC-Sized 1bd 1ba apartment :)

I'm definitely working on the diet though. Eating very low-carb. Running I'm avoiding. I used to run daily, and did a couple halfs, but being 6'3" I'm worried what it's doing to my knees and back, especially in the long term. I think a regular bike routine is my best bet. Anyone have a good biking program they can recommend?

Thanks for the feedback, as always Biscuit!

Could you take a laptop to your apartment gym?

  16. i'd think if you'd torn something your knee would be the size of a softball and you'd have issues walking.   but i'm not a doctor, i just play one on the internet.

    do you take creatine?

Do you think so even if  I tore just the meniscus (small)? It swells up just a little on the around my knee cap, inner leg.

  17. As someone with knee problems, I know what you mean. I used to stretch for an hour a day (20x3). Did that for about 3 months. Now I'm stretched out to the point where I can move functionally with no pain. Running still aggravates my knees, so that's why I like the T25/Insanity stuff. My only piece of insight is to stretch, stretch, stretch, and then stretch some more. Leg presses to build muscle around the knees should help support and alleviate. Just my thoughts.

My plan is to do everything I can possibly do before forking out the $$$ to see if I've torn something. It's a horrible pain under my knee cap.

  18. Started Gamma T25 a week ahead of schedule.  I have 5 more weeks and then I will be switching it up to Insanity or something.  My diet has been a little out of bounds, but I'm trying to bulk up and I had hit a wall anyway.  Hoping to see some good results over the next 5 weeks.

My right knee is being a little bitch again. I'm still working out but modifying like crazy when doing lunges and squats. I'm also

trying to choose workouts with very few lunges and squats.

I did yoga last night and took it easy but my knee was actually hurting afterwards whenever it was bent and i straightened it out. As much as I don't want to I may just not work out at all for 2-3 weeks, ice it like crazy and take naproxen every 4 hours.

    :(

    Good luck with Gamma

  19. If your intake is under 1000, that means...well, you're ridiculous.  If I go that low I would either be dying or killing.

Just curious what it is that you consume in the given day?  MyFitnessPal is a decent app to give you an idea.

I am 6'2 1/2" and 220ish and have to have at least 1,600 just to function and average 2,200 a day.  Once in a while a $15 trip to Taco Bell happens, though.

edit:  I am also curious as to your age.  If you do not want to be specific, just say under 22, between 23-27, 28-32, or 32 or older.  Because as a woman if you're under 22 and eating that little you're not teaching yourself good habits.  If you're 23-27 and still that petite you need to pay close attention to what you actually eat because your body probably needs more.  And women over 32, I guess to put it best - I haven't met one woman who hasn't gained at least 40 lbs. between the age of 22 and 30.

    So be careful.

You are 6'2" 220lbs  she is barely 5"3 and 110 lbs, you obviuosley need a lot more calories considering you are about a foot taller and weigh 100 lbs more.

At her height, to maintain with little exercise she needs about 1200 cals to maintain. If she exercises she could eat more.

  20. I'm 5'3 barely lol and am at 110 now. Not sure what my cal intake is a day. If I had to guess probably under 1000?

Yeah that's a bit low especially if you're active. If you workout a few more healthy carbs shouldn't be a big deal.

I'd add some more fruit, avocados or nuts in my diet for a little bit more calories.
