We definitely have. The D is young and improving. We have talent at WR in TMac (could be one of the NFL's best), Coker, etc. great OL and running game. Offensive minded coach (tho he needs to move to Rico or... Yeah...)... The team feels like it's being built right even if our results aren't always what we want just yet.

No reaching but if the right guy falls into place, sure. We are unlikely to remain in our current draft position so I suspect we'll be just outside the top 10 or just inside it. We will have an option to get great talent there, so I'd avoid reaching for a QB, but their value makes them hard to pass up on if we think there's a guy.

This was a natural evolution from the change in making it easier and easier to pass. Defenses adjusted to force things underneath, being willing to give up the long methodical drives because there are more opportunities for mistakes by the O.

So last year I would have disagreed. But this year, Minnesota's struggles shows he's better than I thought he was. I don't think he's elite tbh, but man, I hope he proves me wrong. Fwiw, I think he could have developed more here, he was doing well under Wilks. But, I'm not sure he's got what it takes to win a Superbowl so I don't begrudge us or Minny) moving on. Hoping he proves me wrong there too.

what does bryce young excel at
mav1234 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
The first 6 games of 2015? He averaged 40 yards rushing and 210 yards passing for 250 yards per game, at least so says pfr... https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/N/NewtCa00/gamelog/2015/#63-68-sum:stats -

He also added like 40 ypg rushing in that period, along with 4 TDs or something. Just as I added Young's rushing productivity to his total stats last year I think we should for Cam. -

I don't know how someone looks at Bryce's stats or his play this year and thinks, "man he's really improving week to week, look at how much better he is than the end of last year!" -
I mean Bryce also had 30 and 40 yard completions in that window and very few QBs attempt more than one pass of that distance per game. 15-20 yards is where QBs need to be able to hit regularly. And that's what Bryce did last year routinely that he isn't now. Edit: my problem with last year wasn't the deep balls etc. it was really how he couldn't be consistent within and between games. And now he's even worse this year!
-
This just isn't true last year. This is one of his passing charts... Here's another: And a worse game where he's still pushing it deep: The myth that Bryce wasn't passing deep at all in his career is nonsense. But he often failed to put the ball in a good place for yac, and has had other issues. And he is waaaay worse this year.
-
Last year, Bryce was attempting and completing balls around and past 20 yards. I mean he had 2 TDs that were ~20 yards in weeks 16 and 17. He had And he had one of the highest intended air yards per pass attempt in 2024, at 8.6. This put him at the same as Herbert, Jackson, Love, and many others. He was well above the league average of 7 something. His average depth of target was 9th best in the league. After week 10 he basically was one of the best deep passers in the league and has only one game without multiple 20 yard completions. The issue is this year, his average intended air yards is down to six. He isn't going deep at all, and when he is, he's missing people. He doesn't look good this year.
-
Last year Bryce was basically as effective as the rest of the league going deep: I would be curious what numbers folks are drawing from that claim he was substantially worse. His issue is basically that he is highly inconsistent 15-20 yards, especially this year. IMO those are the plays we need to keep defenses honest and even last year he wasn't great in that range.
-
I think that was true before Bryce came back last year, but I don't think it is anymore. But I may be wrong. End of last year he was pretty good (albeit inconsistent within games) at 15-20 air yard passes.
-
I still think the bigger issue is what you're describing in the 15-20 yard range vs 30 yard bombs. We are scheming guys open in that range and need to hit those shots more.
-
I mean... Yes. Not like we're replacing Bryce with someone that is known for their arm strength
-
Their current QB situation means they may not even make it to the playoffs, so... And he definitely has been. But he's at least young enough I'll give him some time
-
In the short term I suspect so but if McCarthy somehow turns it around and becomes decent I think they won't

Bryce Young - High Ankle Sprain, out minimum 1 week
mav1234 replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not that your earlier points weren't interesting too but this is what I was wondering about with the injury and potential recovery time. I always had this "hunch" about rolling in vs out just from my own experiences. Insightful stuff, thanks -
Holy poo, THE Mike White?!

I think fans get a bit confused about "justifying so and so starting to be team.". For instance, Chuba starting over Rico isn't causing locker room discord. If Andy performs well once, great, that's the job of a backup. It's helpful for the coaches and FO to see that and they wouldn't object to a win no matter who is under center. As to looking like a real offense objectively neither QB matters a lot for that. This offense is buoy for rushing and it's what it does well.
-
So I completely agree with you that they for once did what they're supposed to do. It's why I'm pretty happy with the win. And we have a fuging winning record!!! But I'm also not gonna stop wanting and hoping for other improvements with my posts. Not that I have any control.

I do not believe there is anyone at any significant level of the organization (fo/staff) that wants this team to lose on Sunday at this point to make Bryce look good. Early in his career he was coddled, yes. But we are still in the playoffs and losing would cause a blow while beating the bills would be amazing And realistically nobody has to worry about The Rusty Rocket really going on a tear, even if we'd like to
