Pickett is disturbingly like Bryce, lol, except that he seemed to just find ways to win his rookie year but was unable to capture that magic again. Hopefully he's improved and can (lol) push Bryce to be better... But I won't hold my breath

I knew I'd find a debate about Howell here, given that Andy fuging Dalton is replacing the guy that beat him out. There's something teams do not like about Howell. This board has always sold him as a sort of poor mans Jameis Winston, and perhaps teams are too concerned with his propensity to turn the ball over. I wonder if he's bad in the film room or something? Ah well, not our problem.

Panthers signing Packers LT Rasheed Walker

We definitely will be looking for more tackles in the draft. The good thing about this signing is that goes from a "must hit on a tackle that can play" to "have time to develop a player" -

Although any penalties are bad, it appears he only allowed 2 more than Icky last year, so not that much different. Hopefully though he can improve there. Definitely on a prove it deal. -
Interesting that what the medical concerns were have remained hidden... And the timing of the pivot to a different player makes this suspect and seems a bit like buyer's remorse. https://share.google/Gt0M48FwR6htSOazq

OT Yosh Nijman announces he’s retiring

Hurts on depth but ultimately he wasn't going to be replacing Ickey really anyway -
It does suggest we may not be viewed as negatively as our fans think.

BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett
mav1234 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Howell had such potential, he would have shown it after that season - but he has failed to. KP and Howell both had their team that drafted them move on from them, so I find that a wash. In opportunities since their first team, KP has looked like a backup, while Howell has failed to move up the depth chart and looked real bad in his only extended experience, so this fixation on Howell by this board is a clear reflection of his university and not his play in the NFL. Howell is not a guy that has potential that could develop into a future NFL QB, at least it doesn't look like it. The reality was we were never going to get a QB that could really push Bryce in any way in FA. Still, I'm hopeful the draft will bring us some potential in the QB room, because given our backup budget, we weren't going to be finding it in FA. -
BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett

Pickett is pretty athletic and has had some impressive scrambles. Howell has a stronger arm but worse decision-making ability, and has struggled to even make a role for himself as a backup (including on teams Pickett did). There is likely more happening behind the scenes in terms of their decision (wouldn't be surprised if our SEA connections mean that our guys know something about Howell), and Pickett's contract is hardly back-breaking. -
BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett

ehhh plenty of people are fluffing Howell, including you. The idea Howell would come in and outshine anyone is hilarious, he hasn't done that in any of his stops the last couple years, why would he here? I don't think Pickett is starting material either, but Howell is not, either. I wouldn't have really cared if we'd gotten Howell because to me it is basically the same tier of player as Pickett. The goal with our new backup was clearly to get younger, someone that had the same mobility as Bryce. Hopefully we actually pick up someone with potential in the draft. -
BREAKING: Panthers sign QB Kenny Pickett

It was clear we weren't going to bring in a real competitive option at QB in FA so I hope we at least pick someone they're excited about in the draft from a potential stand point. -
Was just about to post this. Major win for us, haha

Should Dave Canalas be on the HOT seat??

This damn play is shown as one of the worst sports plays of the year on a Canadian sports channel on repeat. The reminder on a weekly basis keeps me from being too happy with our playoff appearance. -
I feel some of you need a reminder - or maybe to learn for the first time - what a BTT is. Because it isn't a deep ball. It's a subjective assessment of a throw: "PFF grades on a plus/minus scale, in which players are rewarded for positive plays above expectation and penalized for negative plays in increments of 0.5. Throws graded at the higher end of PFF's scale (+1.0, +1.5, and +2.0) are categorized as big-time throws. The lower range of the scale (-1.0, -1.5, and -2.0) are classified as turnover-worthy plays." So Bryce had the highest number of graded throws at +1 to +2 of any NFL QB. Really? Keep in mind that Bryce ultimately ended up with one of the bottom PFF grades for a starting QB. This almost has to mean he also had the most turnover worthy plays or he'd be graded much higher overall. I actually think Bryce is better than his actual PFF grade (26th in the league). But the highest number of well-rated throws in the league? C'mon.
-
The most ridiculous part of this, other than using a made up, extremely subjective stat that isn't even associated with deep balls to define a deep ball passer, is that his actual PFF score was 26/43. Since BTTs are just when a pass gets a really high score on an individual play, just imagine how fuging awful most of his plays must be that he's got some huge number of BTTs but is also so bad all the rest of the time. He made some great plays and IMO had by far his best game in the playoffs (circumstances being what they were), and I'm hoping for that kind of play more consistently next year. But it's so wild for PFF to put out such crazy stuff when the player is objectively less than mediocre by their own rankings.

Big Time Throws are not even fuging deep balls by their own definition ffs.

NFL.com mock draft: Panthers trade up for Reuben Bain
mav1234 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't mind small moves to secure a player generally but overall I agree with you. Just not worth the cost usually unless youre hitting on a HoF and the draft is basically too much of a crap shoot for thet. -
Running out of bounds while making a catch doesn't show up as a drop but it basically is one. XL just doesn't seem to have it. Maybe he doesn't have chemistry with our meh QB but TMac and Coker have made it work.
-
Ah yes, the NFL is fixing games so masterfully that were only left with disgruntled fan bases like ours complaining about whether or not a catch was a catch, but they reveal their grand plan in some stupid image from September lol
-
Hard to say. He definitely learned from his stops in SF and Minn.
-
He's headed to the ground after taking a step (a football move lol). They definitely haven't been officiating that consistently but I've seen similar plays be completions.
-
We didn't have that but it's possible we could have. That said I think part of what allowed this was being cast off repeatedly.
-
Really happy for Darnold... He hasn't had the most straightforward path to success but he showed today he could hang with the best QBs and overcome bad performances in the past. I hope they come out and destroy New England.
