  1. Certainly a point worth taking into consideration.
  2. Meh, Sean Payton took the Saints from perpetual basement dwellers to frequent Super Bowl contenders. We all know Tepper desperately needs someone just like Payton with the knowledge and experience to rapidly turn this team around. Unfortunately, SP is the only coach that meets the requirements that is currently available for hire.
  3. This, but only if the team is well constructed and well coached. Simple to say, but hard to do. The ball is in Tepper's court, don't mess it up (again) big guy.
  4. I don't believe the 49ers are ready to give up on Lance, but if they do that should be a big red flag to other teams. Especially considering the number of high draft picks (3) San Francisco gave up to get him. Also, Lance isn't likely to find a better situation to develop his game than he has with the 49ers. If he can't make it there, chances are he can't make it anywhere.
  5. I doubt Stroud is sad about having options. I think we'll see more and more of these potential draft candidates elect to stay a year or two longer in school. Some of these NIL deals can be rather lucrative from what I hear.
  6. That recruit in Chandler AZ needs to get some B.S. repellent ASAP.
  7. That is meaningless nonsense that I could hear coming directly from Rhule's lips on a recruiting visit. Just reading it makes we want to hurl...
  8. Seems about right. However, to be fair, Tepper has presided over the longest streak of consecutive losing seasons in Panthers history. That certainly didn't take Dave very long to accomplish. I'd be willing to bet there are more than a handful of individuals posting here that could give Tepper a run for his money. Not saying any of them would do a great job or even a good job. I'm just saying it wouldn't take much to surpass what Tepper has accomplished to date.
  9. "Logistical issues" apparently. Hard to fathom when just about everyone has access to Zoom.
  10. Don't know much about him, but I did enjoy watching the Lions beat the Packers.
  11. Anybody see the 49ers losing to the Seahawks? I sure don't. Teams can interview coaching candidates after wildcard weekend. But I'm guessing that the Panthers won't have an opportunity to interview Ryans until the 49ers are eliminated from the playoffs or during Super Bowl bye week. I'm favoring the 49ers to represent the NFC in the big game.
  12. Who doesn't love a surprise ending where the blind squirrel finds a nut? Unfortunately, more often than not, the blind squirrel ends up as road kill or hiring coaches like Rhule.
  13. Hopefully their opinions will be valued at least as much as Mrs. Tepper's. /s I was really hoping to hear about a former executive from the Steelers, Packers or 49ers being brought in as a consultant, so Dave won't have to resort to pasta toppings for the final decision.
  14. I suspect there is an office full of knowledgeable advisors whose primary job is to assist David Tepper in deciding what his next big investment on Wall Street is going to be. Tepper likely pays them handsomely for their well considered advice. So, why would David go cheap when selecting his next field general for the Panthers? Bring in NFL consultants with a proven track record of turning around troubled franchises. AFAIK there is no one within the Panthers organization that has a history of getting these sort of decisions right. Frankly, thinking Tepper's wife and Scott Fitterer are Dave's key advisors in this process leaves way too much to chance.
  15. Slightly pessimistic, leaning towards very pessimistic. However it is early in the interview process and I'd like to try and give every benefit of the doubt to David Tepper. It's not like he isn't intelligent enough to make a good decision with the assistance of knowledgeable/experienced advisors. Unfortunately, I've haven't heard anything that would indicate he has surrounded himself with knowledgeable/experienced advisors. So, I'm a bit concerned.
  16. Reality: It is in everybody's best interests if Sam Darnold finds a new team. 2023 Prediction: Panthers will sign Sam to a two year contract for an unjustifiably large amount of money. He will continue to be one of the worst QBs in the league and painful to watch.
  17. Correct. If Carr is still a Raider after 15 February he gets his 40 million. Conclusion: Raiders are cutting Carr NLT 15 February 2023. Carr will be a free agent and there will be multiple teams bidding for his services.
  18. At this point in his career, I suspect that Derek's primary concern is not to end up on another dysfunctional team like the Raiders. In today's QB driven NFL, there will be a high demand for Derek's services. Right now he holds all the cards in this game and the Raiders have none. Guess we'll just have to wait a few more weeks to see how this all plays out.
  19. Carr has a no trade contract with the Raiders. With that in mind why would he want to wave his right to refuse a trade? He wouldn't. Also, why would he want his future team to give up draft picks that could be used to surround Carr with more talent? He wouldn't. Finally, why would Carr want to do the Raiders any favors after McDaniels and Davis threw him under the bus? He wouldn't. Some team is going to get an excellent QB in Carr, but I don't believe the Raiders are going to get anything out of the deal. They'll have to cut him right after the SB.
  20. This. If watching CMC lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl finally helps Tepper get his priorities straight when it comes to hiring coaches and GMs, then the trade will have been well worth it. What a joy it would be to watch a Panthers team with a dominant and multi-talented offense like the 49ers have today.
  21. CMC going to the 49ers, was like watching an abused child get adopted by a loving family. Of course he was going to thrive in SF surrounded by talented teammates and one of the best Head Coaches in the league. Hopefully Tepper soon finds a creative mind like Kyle Shanahan's to turn the Panthers around.
  22. Derek Carr would be a significant upgrade over any QB the Panthers have had during the last 5 years. If Derek is released by the Raiders, the Panthers would do well to explore a deal with him. With Sam off the books, the additional cost to acquire Carr might be no more than 10-15 million per season (30-35 million per year?). Having Carr at QB would make the Panthers a favorite for NFCS champions in 2023. Possibly the best aspect of signing Carr to a contract would be gaining the inside track on attracting Davante Adams, a true #1 WR.
  23. Hurney and Tepper were gushing like a couple of little school girls at the news conference announcing Matt Rhule as the new Panthers Head Coach. They went on and on about how they fell in love with the guy within a short period of time after meeting him. Frankly, as a fan, it was embarrassing to watch. Tepper's biggest issue, at the time, was that he had so little knowledge about the game that he thought Marty Hurney was a "genius". Hopefully, for Panthers fan's sake, Dave has made an effort these last few years to become more decerning about who he takes advice from when it comes to hiring NFL head coaches.
  24. After further reflection, if Steve Wilks gets a 3 year contract it wouldn't upset me. He did rather well this season, especially considering what he had to work with. With his years in the NFL, I don't doubt he could build a decent coaching staff and we already know he is a great motivator and leader of young men. My biggest worry (with only a small sample size) is what appears to be an aversion to taking risks when the game/season is on the line. Yes, offense is important, but NFL history has numerous examples of teams with high scoring offenses that failed to win the SB for a lack of a dominant defense.
