The Case for(or Against) Drafting/Signing a TE
frankw replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
You should get on the payroll bub. Don't work for free. -
We go out of our way not to attack the middle of the field if we can avoid it which is due to Bryce's lack of vision. We learned about that the hard way in his rookie season and it was not pretty. And that only makes things more difficult for our OL in pass blocking. There's 3 years worth of game tape on this. Passes to the sideline are also hit and miss at best and occasionally Bryce will throw a dime along the sideline but for the most part the receiver has to either slow down or fully stop in his tracks and make an acrobatic move to have a chance to haul in the throw in bounds.
-
Making something out of nothing and improvising was a big part of his selling point but it was always primarily as a passer distributing the ball aka point guard. But he had 185 rushing yards in 2 full seasons at Alabama. Again. We didn't draft him for his legs no matter how many times someone wants engage in revisionist history.

Surprise! Wait… Surprise Again! Kon Looks Really Good!
frankw replied to TylerDurden's topic in Charlotte Hornets
We finally got a really good duo performance from LaMelo and Brandon and with the help of Kon Knueppel we knocked off the Hawks. Now we play the waiting game to see how long LaMelo will remain relatively healthy. -
I appreciate the efforts you've made here with this data. As concerned as I am about how efficient we are allowing opposing QB's to perform against us I think we can all agree a change of scenery at DC will go a long ways. Equally as important is the simple fact that we have shifted primarily to an offensive identity as a team and the investments of our resources strongly reflect that. If we cannot get better results out of this offense things need to change.
-
Covered that above. As for his weapons I am completely over the scapegoating of the receivers. Been doing this for now going on three full years and I'm done hearing it. At some point if you have a franchise QB he either makes the players around him better or he doesn't. Now if you want to get into Canales I am willing to give him just as much smoke as Bryce because we had options for head coach and we chose to go offensive head coach again to oversee the development of our steep investments in the offense. So far said development is lacking to say the least and we came out of the bye week with the division and playoffs to play for looking like the less motivated team. That is unacceptable.
-
I complimented Bryce on some of the maneuvering he did within the pocket but eventually the game got to a point where he needed to stand tall and get the ball to his guys and he could not do that. We've had this discussion about his legs previously buddy. You don't recall our convo about the sustainability of him as a runner after last years Falcons game at the end of the season? We didn't draft this kid for his legs.
-
I've been very apprehensive about potentially firing yet another head coach. But Canales needs to focus on being a head coach first and foremost and begin handing off some responsibilities like playcalling duties and begin overseeing the entire team or we need to assess all possible ideal HC candidates in the offseason.

The Case for(or Against) Drafting/Signing a TE
frankw replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
Our TE group is young but they are comically either the highest of highs or the lowest of lows. Can't chalk all of it up to just lack of talent or busts. Whether it's Canales or Bryce Young or a combination of the two you don't just week to week month to month go from looking like you've got future studs at TE to complete duds. At some point your QB has to elevate these guys instead of them always saving his ass. -
Let's keep it real here. BY bailed on the pocket throughout the game. Some of them turned into net positives others were not necessary. And when you reflect on the entire game and see Tyler Shough hanging in the pocket and delivering strikes while getting hit it should drive home to you that this is not what we drafted Bryce Young to do. We drafted him to be a field general and distribute the ball through the air. We were also told he would not need top shelf talent across the board as a result. None of this is okay.
-
Also. I cannot say enough how insane it is that the same people who expect the defense to win us games and complain about the OL while completely ignoring the reality that we went above and beyond to over invest in the OL just to give Bryce Young a chance to look like an average QB. And he still can't do that. But it's everyone else's fault. Pitiful.
-
Highest paid OL in the league. Multiple first round WR's. You can type up as many excuses as you want. If our guy can't produce in THIS pitiful version of the NFCS it's a wrap. Accept it.
-
I'm much less concerned about missing on Darnold as I am Mike Macdonald. The guy has that franchise humming from top to bottom. Disgusts me. Seahawks fans have it made. Meanwhile we're over here consistently disappointing any time there are even remotely upward expectations.

The Case for(or Against) Drafting/Signing a TE
frankw replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
Of course we can but TE like WR is going to continue to be a what if position group until we get a QB in here who can consistently put our receivers in a position to succeed with quality ball placement. -
It was a bad play from Icky but the OL didn't give up a sack until late in the 4th quarter and Bryce just stood there like he was canatonic. If our 3rd year number one overall pick can't overcome one single sack against a rebuilding Saints team that should only have 2 wins this season then it isn't ever going to happen. You can login here and act like you are the only one above the fray and rational but in reality you're just boot licking for bottom of the barrel QB play because there isn't anyone associated with the Panthers that you wouldn't throw under several speeding buses in order to run cover for Bryce Young.
-
Bryce had his best statistical game ever this season against the Falcons but aside from that he has been either hot lukewarm or ice cold. And sandwiched in between the games he's won have been games like the 49ers loss and getting swept by the Saints with the division and the playoffs on the line. Only to some Panthers fans could that be considered "trending up" because we have lowered the bar so much for our third year #1 overall pick. I've legitimately never seen anything like it. Bryce Young is number 5 on the list of games played by Panthers QB's in franchise history with 43 games which is 2 games shy of tying Kerry Collins for number of games played as a Panther. And he has a 13-28 record. Yet he's "trending up". GTFO 🫵
-
The defense is 28 out of 32 in salary cap allocation for 2025. We have a ton of resources tied up in the offense including the highest paid OL in the league multiple 1st round WR's and multiple recent draft picks across the offense at TE and RB and we have two 1000 yard backs. Bryce and company couldn't get past Tyler Shough and his crew in 2 games. That's all there is to it. You can spin it and put the entire onus on the defense to your heart's desire it doesn't change the fact that this is an OFFENSIVE team now. If you want to argue that we should revert back to a defensive identity as we have been in the past which has brought us success then I will agree with you on that. But as it stands the onus is on the offense because that is where we have invested through the nose. Dave Canales and Bryce Young need to do a hell of a lot better than they have against the rebuilding Saints who without us should only have 2 wins this season.
-
Looks like Darnold should have had at least 3 picks. That'll get ugly in the playoffs eventually. Can't deny his physical talent though. You either have that or you don't. Mike Macdonald is a legit coach.
-
Well we'll just see what happens by April. But I put the odds of Bryce Young not being at Panthers training camp at about 1%.
-
"We never got into any discussions," Morgan replied. "I never opened that door. Didn't want to trade Bryce, still don't and committed to working with him and helping him grow and helping him develop."
-
I don't like it. You don't like it. But it is what Dan Morgan is going to do. Many people here have sang his praises for months now with some even suggesting he never wanted Bryce Young to begin with which I don't believe for a second. But at the end of the day Dan Morgan listens to David Tepper and he is going to do what he is told.
-
You don't have to convince me. I think not picking up the option should absolutely be firmly on the table but I just do not see Tepper and Morgan doing that for previously stated reasons. Therefore I'm not going to bother entertaining the notion. Just hoping we actually get real viable competition. If that doesn't happen at the minimum then my perception of that is complete and utter professional malpractice.

He does have a limited frame to work with. But the fact he is only 24 years old has $39 million in the bank in contract money before any endorsements and seemingly can't even be bothered to attempt to make any attempt whatsoever to add even minimal bulk is just pitiful. And he's opened the season three years in a row playing awful football. I mean that's a guy who has been handed starting gigs his whole life
