The Pats will likely just load up the box to stop the run, but that doesn't always work. Basically Sam, assuming he plays, has to make the throws we brought him here to make. He has a huge contract and Rhule's reputation is on the line. Make the throws to guys in single coverage and guys who are open, or pack your bags Sam.
Let's not forget receivers hauling in catchable throws.

I'm a Jet fan. Following the Panthers because of Sam. You need draft capital. The entire interior of your offensive line needs to be rebuilt. Cris Godwin would be a nice addition also. Robby just isn't getting it done. Who you trade for picks, I'm not sure.

We're basically just where most Panthers teams have been. We need to control the ball by running and safe passes, and our defense needs to generate turnovers and 3 and outs. That's all well and good when our o-line is more powerful than the opposing d-line, like with the Falcons. The problem is when we face a big d-line that can stuff the run and force us to pass. That's when captain interception, Sam/PJ, will wreck us.
Give Sam a little bit of time before defenders are surrounding him, and he'll be fine. Problem is the Panthers, don't have the talent up front to compete against a good front 7. Lately, they haven't had the receivers either who can make any contested catches. I don't care who the QB is. Being under constant pressure is going to force him eventually into bad decisions. Sam didn't have happy feet until he started getting assaulted, starting with that Cowboy game

This thread went from having hope to just off the rails with Mahomes and Kaepernick. Darnold has never been a good starting qb and you can rattle off the names of any other quarterback but the truth remains.
Behind a putrid offensive line he was having success. With that line CMC needs to play, without him, the better defenses are just having fun and teeing off

Look at what has happened to Mahomes after all the pressure he faced in the Super Bowl. Still putting up good numbers, but his interception number has gone way up. Any QB, who's dealt with the pressure Darnold has in his career, is going to suffer from bad decisions and happy feet. Solution. Fix the o-line, or get a QB, that can be successful under that kind of pressure

I'll take Derek Carr in a heartbeat, his situation feels similar to Matthew Stafford languishing all those years in Detroit.
Derrick Carr would get killed behind that offensive line. When the Raiders had a porous line, the fans wanted him gone. He has no mobility.

I don't know what's wrong with Robby. In N.Y he was very reliable as a pass catcher. Very few drops. Did he have this problem here, last year???

I'm a Jet fan. Posted a few times here. You're offensive line is awful. And it's deja'vu for Sam. Same inside rush problems he had to deal with in N.Y. Against a quality pass rush and secondary, Sam doesn't have a chance. Considering all that, if his receivers held onto the ball yesterday, the Panthers still might have won.

PFF: Panthers had one of the worst offensive line performances of our lifetime yesterday

So much for the argument it's Darnolds fault. The Panthers o-line is worse than the Jet's ever was when Darnold was there. And that's saying something.
