  1. in the media Cam doesn't get a pass but around here the hypocrisy between how Can is treated versus Shuls really is ridiculous.

Look p55, you're an intelligent, and informed poster here.

I've already stated that some of the Shula hate is unwarranted. But you're not going to be able to sit there, and act as if he is literally public enemy #1 in our fan base, while at the same time pretending like literally every fan has been behind our quarterback 100% all this time. It just isn't true.

Cam Newton is our franchise quarterback. Now, you are welcome to join the rest of us whenever you are ready.

  2. He seems the whipping boy for every offensive problem while the players like Cam get a pass because people recognize he didn't have a great supporting cast. What is funnier still is that everyone commends Cam for all his accomplishments without mentioning that Shuls took him from a guy who knew very little and has improved him every year.

There is a pretty big difference between being a QB coach, versus actually calling plays, and overseeing a whole offense.

Some of the Shula hate is unwarranted. But when it's met with responses like "well why does Cam get a pass!?", that's even more ridiculous. Anyone who has read these boards the last 4 years knows that Newton has certainly not gotten a pass overall. We've finally just begun to clean this place up actually.

  3. Hey,  if you want to further that myth,  it's all good.  Choo choo!  My point back then was that he was the best during preseason,  and probably the best of the bunch besides 89 and 11.  He was never blown up by me.  Sure,  he's gone,  but so is AE and whoever.

It's kind of funny,  but Gettis was more productive during his rookie year than Fozzy's and Brown's put together.

Yeah surely he must be lighting the field up somewhere right now...

Or not. He lasted a whole 3 days on a CFL roster this year.

In all seriousness, I wish the guy luck.

  4. A large part of the Huddle has grown accustomed to a tad above mediocrity after so many years of injury and inconsistency from our RBs (and WRs,  really).  It is a symptom of prolonged deprivation.

Fozzy Brown is the legend of all Huddle legends.

    I lol'd.

You literally drove the David Gettis hype train dude.

  5. I'm sorry but you're wrong. Garfield is a fat piece of crap and boring as hell. Garfield's whole schtick is how he hates Mondays and loves Lasagna. That's it.

In fact, Garfield comics are better when Garfield is removed from the comics because it shows a slow decent into madness of a lonely single bachelor.

Garfield is a pampered pansy who isn't a hardened street thug like Heathcliff. Heathcliff does what must be done to survive. Heathcliff is playing the game of thrones of everyday life. Heathcliff is a baller.

    Garfield bitches about Mondays.

    NO SIR.

  6. Well, I actually said that if either one was starting then we'd have a problem. My only "bias" with Boykin is that he is bigger, stronger, has a modicum of success on special teams, and is a darned good blocker, particularly downfield. He has also shown more as a receiver, but of course Brown hasn't had as much an opportunity as Boykin, but it is what it is.

I don't believe either one is an epiphany as a wide-out (in the sense of Victor Cruz), but if one or both surprises me,I will give them the praise that they deserve. I still am not going to apologize for skepticism based upon their careers thus far though.  They will have to earn my loyalty, much like any player.

I don't blame you for being skeptical. Labeling him a JAG though is a bit harsh. Obviously Victor Cruz level expectations would be rather absurd.

My main concern with Boykin would be his inconsistency. We've seen enough of that at the position over the years.

Anyways, it looks like things are shaping up for us to see some nice competition in preseason, and that's always a plus.

To be clear, though I give you poo sometimes, and you can be a little silly, I value your opinion on this board.

  7. First of all this forum was about Mike Brown, and, secondly, I never said that Corey Brown wouldn't make it, I alluded to the fact that I thought he was JAG and that I thought that Boykin was more accomplished and probably better. Moreover, I said that it would all boil down to competition during the preseason. I also said that, regardless, I don't want either one of them starting and that if we did we would have a problem. Lastly, I said that the name on the jersey really doesn't matter as long as the best man wins the job. So, no, I am not hypocritical, and I have always been a believer in competition over all.

That's the thing about the Huddle and the written word, it's all there in the record. Sure, I have been very skeptical of Corey Brown, but part of my expressions have been because I believe that a certain contingent in the Huddle has blown the guy up to legendary status, even though he was JAG as a receiver and returner, seems somewhat prone to injury, and in my mind is no more deserving of praise than Bersin. But, even though I continue to be skeptical, if Corey Brown lives up to his Huddle hype, then hip hip hooray. But, make no mistake, I haven't and would not write anyone off, no matter how some people want to twist words and create their own Huddle narrative to cast negativity upon top dawg. It's a football forum, we all have opinions, and no one has been 100 percent right about anything.

I would hardly say he's up to "legendary status". Not sure what your definition of a JAG is, but for me, he doesn't fit that.

Not every WR we have is going to be a returner. We've got Ginn, and at this point we may have Byrd who can help there too.

To be plainly honest, if you see Corey as a "JAG", but not Boykin, there may be some bias going on.

At this point I just want the best WR's out there to help our QB. We actually have some real competition at the position, and it's refreshing.

  8. Not saying anyone in particular, but some a-holes wanted to write all these guys off. Nothing is a given yet, and it's still early still to be giving anyone not named Benjamin and Funchess a pass.

Weren't you the one declaring over a month ago that Corey Brown wouldn't even make the roster?

Bit hypocritical there dawg, just saying.

  9. Anyone else concerned about Cam still throwing picks in camp? I expected to him to be near perfect after a full off season of work and good health.

How many picks has he thrown? I haven't heard much except a few here, and there. Which is not abnormal in camp. He's also thrown numerous touchdowns. One major thing you have to consider for camp is that the defensive players are out there trying to make the squad also, and they are pretty good too.

Regardless, you're not going to get a completely perfect QB, no matter what his name is.

The thing to look for in those picks though is, was it simply a poor throw, or was it a DB simply making a good play? Newton has forced some passes in the past, he's already commented on working on that. But on the flip side, our WR's have to do their part by fighting to get the ball for their QB.

  10. This isn't personal.

Who cares? Again, that's pointless to this conversation. Rivera loved Fua too. Did that make him a good player? No. So being a 'favorite' means diddy squat to me.

I'd counter argue the same. You can type up as many points as you want but a turd is still a turd. If someone like Byrd has a better skill set then he deserves the spot over another possession receiver (we already have three in Benjamin, Funchess and Cotchery).

Oh really? Seems like the only things that are "pointless to the conversation" are the ones that do not fit with your arguments about the guy.

Turd, Fua, really? Now you're just being absurd. Bersin may have struggled with returning punts when he was thrown into it out of the blue with little to no practice reps, but he is certainly a serviceable target in the passing game.

If Byrd makes the roster over Bersin, I will actually be pretty excited, because that would mean that Byrd is playing extremely well. That would only bode well for our franchise, and our fans. However, we're 5 days into training camp, and there is plenty left. But I'm not going to dump on either guy, because they are doing what they need to.

  11. Then I don't know what to tell you.

Boykin has produced more and has experience. Deal with it.

    Settle down there Sparky.

I'm not even arguing one is better than the other. But using one to poo on the other however is fairly pointless. Other than the 2013 season, Boykin hasn't exactly lit the NFL up either.

Look if you don't like the guy, cool, okay. You can type up as many arguments as you want to convince yourself that he isn't any good. But at the end of the day, he's a favorite target for our QB, who knows a thing or two about this more than us, so Bersin must be doing something right.

  12. We were so spoiled by gross... We didn't know how good we had it with him. That "Average" year was still far above average compared to everything else.

I still wish we had formed an actual plan regarding his departure. We had to convince him to come back for the 2013 season, so it wasn't like we were not expecting it come 2014. I don't really blame Gettleman for it, I think it was more Rivera pushing for Byron Bell into the role. Ron's track record with being overly loyal to the nice guys who work hard but are mediocre like Bell/Chandler/Fua has not helped.
