  1. 2 years IMO. Basically a year to acquire and develop an offensive line. Also, if we draft a QB it's not uncommon for year 2 QBs to be ready to take their teams deep into the playoffs. In the meantime I think we will flirt with wildcard status similar to what the Bills did their first 3 years.
  2. Almost two years ago….. our defense was 23rd in yards per play allowed and 31st in points allowed per game. Currently our defense is 3rd in yards per play allowed and 7th in points per game allowed. There is a lot of woah regarding what the team doesn't have instead of being exited about what we do have. We are in year 2 of a rebuilding process. The early resources were spent on defense and the team is starting to see the results of that effort. I trust that we will see similar results on offense in a year or two. As for the OPs question: Jameis ain't all that, he's just as awkward in the backfield as Sam. I suspect he will be replaced once the 'aints have the ammo. The Falcons are going to be going to be in the QB market themselves very soon. Have you seem Matt Ryan's contract? Dude is likely gone next season. Brady is an unknown. He's good, but benefits immensely from an all-star roster of vets that make team friendly deals in order to ring chase. Ultimately father time is undefeated. Our team is being built to handle the Bucs though ... what other reason is there for our Pokémon like obsession with good CBs? Going to need a LOT of guys to cover everyone wearing pewter and red. Basically, our near-term competition is the Bucs and our long term competition is probably the Saints (at least as long as they have Payton).
  3. We currently have 546 passing TDs. Sam Darnold is already 10th in TD passes thrown in Panthers history; Cam and Jake are the only ones over 100 passing TDs.
  4. All I read is "Kamara is a really good player". We would likely be 5-2 or 6-1 with McCaffrey
  5. During the typically scripted portion of the playcalling they were calling running plays.
  6. I'd entertain it as long as it comes with some level of protection. Something like a pick elevating to a 1st if Watson plays in at least 8 games that season.
  7. Sounds like we had most of runs during the scripted portion of the play calling and almost none when off-script.
  8. Still optimistic about Rhule being a decent Head Coach. I fully expect him to get at least year 3, likely with a new OC.
  9. Week 4 Recap Tough loss last week. The team played well (minus the 3rd quarter) and looked like a team that belongs in the playoff conversation. The game was high scoring as SRS projected, and the Panthers almost hit their expected points. Turnovers (and non-called turnovers) helped Dallas outperform their expectation. I'm not too worried about the high score, Dallas is the 2nd rated offense and most teams won't be able to threaten us with the run and pass the same way. Projected Score Panthers 30 Dallas 22 Actual Score Panthers 28 Dallas 36 SRS Rankings (source: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2021/index.htm) Our Panthers took a hit in SRS, but not too bad overall. Our nearest neighbors are the Browns and they were a good playoff team last year. You can also see the upper crust of teams forming: Chargers (stellar defense), Bills, Cardinals, Cowboys, and Chiefs (max offense) Week 5 Projection Using SRS to project our upcoming matchup with the Eagles suggests we should expect a low scoring defensive affair. Projected Score Eagles 6 Panthers 17
  10. I also feel that even in a losing effort the team looks good (note I didn't get to see the 3rd quarter). Playoffs should be a very realistic goal. I loved Rhule sending Fox in late in the 4th Q to give Dallas the free 1st down. That little thing improved our chances of getting the ball back with time on the clock; remember Dallas was looking at a 2nd and 2.
  11. The Chargers are 20th in points scored. Their opponents this season are 29th, 13th, and 32nd in points allowed. Put another way: - they scored 20 against WAS, who allowed 29 and 43 in their other games - they scored 17 against DAL, who allowed 31 and 21 in their other games - they scored 30 against KC, who allowed 29 and 36 in their other games Those kind of results will lead to a points-based metric really disliking your offense.
  12. With 3-weeks of data teams are starting to form identities that show up in statistics. Obviously three games is a small sample size, but I thought it would be interesting to visualize the simple rating system (SRS) of each team's offense and defense. (source: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2021/index.htm) SRS is a points-based metric that gives a measure of team quality vs average (0); Higher is better. It DOES take into account the quality of opponent. Based on SRS, the Panthers have the 2nd best defense through three weeks and a slightly above average offense (shown below). We are also in the top-right segment of the chart which is where good teams live. I'm excited about the early results. The visualization also shows that our Panthers will have a good test of their defense when they square off against Dallas who is currently sporting the 2nd rated offense according to SRS. On the plus side, the Dallas defense rates below the Panthers three previous opponents. Projected Score Panthers 30 Dallas 22
  13. per ESPN, "...our pass block win rate metric conveys the rate linemen can sustain their blocks for 2.5 seconds or longer." Based on images in the same article it appears that most of the failure was our interior OL (note the 2! Jets DTs in the top 10).
  14. Called it. You don't punt from your 33 and also have confidence in your kicking game.
  15. 1) Kicking/lack of confidence in the kicking game. I wouldn't be surprised to see us cut Santoso and try develop him on the practice squad. 2) O-line is outmatched. We will have to scheme around it all season. Honorable Mention) Pass coverage was leaky. Whenever we didn't get pressure it was almost always a completion or a drop.
  16. I don't see him playing. He hasn't even been practicing to my knowledge. Texans are paying him to be on the roster. Right now it's part of the 53, but it could be on an exempt list at some future point in the season. Basically, they are paying millions this season for future 1st round draft picks.
  17. I also got the sense that the roster wasn't "final" hence the not wanting to talk about players specifically. Shi could go on IR tomorrow and be eligible to return in 3 games. Easy way to create a roster spot for a waiver wire addition.
  18. I was reading that this was a real possibility a few days ago. Basically they are equally good/bad so why eat a roster spot. Once they get past today they can IR-to-return some players (3 games) and bring back either guy.
  19. I do wonder what kind of "injury" Fletch has that is season ending
  20. Win-win. Jansen gets his sunset tour. Team gets a super reliable long snapper and doesn't have to expose their 6th round investment to waivers.
  21. Conservative coach chooses conservative QB. Color me shocked.
  22. "sensor" And I agree regarding the first downs.
