  1. From what I have seen concerning his list of candidates, I would say Wilkes ain't gonna get the job. I like the guy--maybe not as a coach--but he really has not had a fair shake as a HC--just do not think we are in position to gamble with him, concerning our offense.
  2. Mays looked good in his absence. Still, we always need solid depth.
  3. I watched Cade Mays at Lg a lot Sunday--I was impressed.
  4. OK, this will make some of you mad--but Hooker coming off ACL surgery could be a steal at QB. I think, looking at the mocks right now, he'd be there with the panthers first, second round pick--since his ACL injury could make him a lame duck his first season, he could fall to the late second, early third. Why is that a steal, you ask? We could move up and get a top rated QB in the draft and it would cost us our First and probably both seconds. All of the top QBs seem to be developmental projects--not ready as rookies to start. No QB in the draft had a better year than Hooker: "The senior posted 3,135 yards passing, 430 yards rushing and 32 touchdowns with only two interceptions for the Volunteers' high-powered offense. Hooker threw five touchdowns in Tennessee's first upset victory over then No. 1 Alabama." Yes, he beat #1 Bama with 5 TDs. He is 6'4" and can run the ball. OK, he is a bit older than other QBs in the draft. I see that as a good thing---he will be mature during the first contract. Age 25-29, a veteran athlete on a rookie contract. He could play until he is 35, giving us more than Cam did (due to his playing style). So if we draft Hooker in the second round, we'd still have a first rounder and a second rounder. We could add a TE early in the draft. That, after we re-sign Bozeman and Corbett, would make this offense scary. He is coming off ACL surgery. That means he might not be ready until he is 26, in the second year of a four-year deal. It is a reason for concern, but he would be able to learn the offense. We would probably need to sign a veteran QB on a one year deal, but then we'd have Herndon on a rookie contract for three more seasons. With the OL restored (by the way, Cade Mays played great vs. New Orleans) and upgrades at WR and TE, this team could be good with a transitional QB. Just a thought.
  5. Talent can be found in the bottom rounds. Romo was a good example.
  6. Probably, but he turns 25 in a few weeks. He showed improvement, just not enough to give him a second contract for a starting QB. I think, in the right situation, he could be adequate to decent. But I was not saying Sam is good--I was saying that TODAY his WRs were not getting open.
  7. Until a stud QB starts tickling Bozeman's nuts with the back of his hand, it does not matter who is wearing headsets.
  8. The Panthers have the most attractive job that will be available. Show your pride!
  9. Today, the WRs were not open. Makes the qb look bad---not defending Sam, but I am defending Sam.
  10. The Saints do not have a first round pick, so they will not be tanking or losing to rest players. Having said that, their injury list is substantial.
  11. He is working on blocking--however, he was a HS basketball player who played football for 1 season. So, some parts of his game are raw.
  12. Could. TEs do tend to drop. Still, we could package our seconds and move up--giving us 2 firsts.
  13. He is my favorite coach in the league. A guy you'd never pick out of a lineup as being an NFL coach. Analytical, brilliant, humorous--If the fish let him go, we grab him. I am not that happy about Harbaugh. He reminds me of purchasing a boat. The 2 happiest days are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
  14. Character and intellect are often demonstrated when the right words are difficult to find. People who lack empathy and intelligence get exposed quickly.
  15. I read some comments about Jim Harbaugh stating that he is likely to return to Michigan. It seems few bought into that--it is called negotiations, and coaches use the media to their advantage. In a related story, coaches will lie about players they are interested in drafting. They are not very honest--shame on them!
  16. I suppose the issue is going to be, once he gets his breathing in order, how long was his brain deprived of oxygen. Pray for a normal life moving forward I am scared for him and his family. I will be pulling for Buffalo in the playoffs to get him a ring.
  17. I played in college, and even though everyone around you is getting dinged and injured, you somehow don't think of it happening to you. The warrior mentality takes over. I can say that when I was injured twice and the surgeon told me that I was done, there was a part of me that was relieved. The decision I never wanted to make was made for me, and I found immediate peace with it. I found other things to do, and they did not hurt as much. So if this experience helps him find peace off the field, I get it.
  18. You may be referring to Phil Hughston, who died from injuries at Garinger High School in 1971. The field is named after him. His brother Chuck is married to my wife's cousin.
  19. I am not sure how this is tallied, but Atlanta and Las Vegas are only a tiny bit ahead of the Panthers--they play better teams (better records) Sunday. Does that mean we leapfrog them if our records stay the same? Atlanta SOS is .470 and they play TB who have 8 wins (8-8) Las Vegas SOS is .471 and they play KC, a team with 13 wins Carolinas SOS is .474 and they play N.Orleans, a team with 7 wins. If they recalculate based on the teams during week 17 only, we would leapfrog them. If it is based on the records of all games played then I have no clue how to figure it out. It seems that we are sure to leapfrog the Raiders if we both lose or win. Does anyone know how this is calculated? Do they figure all teams you played and compile their overall season records, or is it the record when you play them?
  20. Bozeman and Christensen played very well....
  21. Signing Darnold now, a player who has been to the bottom and sat and watched while contemplating his fate--a player with a half decade experience in the NFL--carries less risk than a top draft pick in 2023. He is showing growth--and I think there might be something there. And I really want to focus on a few other spots.
