  1. I'd almost guarantee need gets factored into the draft board.  When a GM says that he goes straight by his draft board and takes the BPA, those rankings already have the need piece factored in.

I'm not really sure if thats completely true.  Taking the BPA is much easier said than done.  Everyone says it, but it takes some guts to stick to it.  There is a lot of pressure to win now, so that probably leads to some people factoring in need more than others.  Probably what separates good GMs from the not so good ones.

Team's draft boards are listed vertically and horizontally, meaning players with similar grades are grouped together and listed horizontally.  A good GM who sticks to his guns and truly believes in the BPA philosophy should only factor in need when picking between players with similar grades.

Just like with any rule, there are probably a few exceptions.  We probably wouldn't take a QB in the first round, but for the most part, a confident GM won't reach for need because he knows how to fill the gaps with cheap talent.  THAT is what makes a good GM.

  2. anytime a team trades up they're doing it to get a guy they really like, if we trade up i'd assume were doing the same

hypothetically,if we trade up i don't think we would do it just to get the bpa but to get somebody DG likes and doesn't think will make it to pick 25

therefore,in this particular situation i don't think bpa would apply

I don't see how your explanation proves that a trade would go against taking the BPA.

Taking the BPA means that when you're on the clock, you are taking the highest rated player on your board, rather than taking someone who is rated lower because they fill an immediate need.

  3. There's not a player in this draft outside of the top-8 picks worth trading up for. I'll be pissed if we give up anymore than a 5th rounder to trade up, regardless of who it's for.

I don't know what type of credentials you have, but when people make comments like this, I can't help but think they are delusional about how much they think they know.

  4. Yet, you seem to feel qualified to judge a professional football player, one that was being severely harrased by a bunch of jerks,,led by a known headcase?

We all judge people from time to time, even though I agree that we shouldn't, and I agree that what was done to him was terrible and the people that did it are even worse. I feel bad for the guy. But the only thing that stops a bully is to stand up to them. And I'm not sure if he was able to do that. Or at least be able to talk to the right people to make it stop. I'm sure it's a really difficult position to be in.

I'm a little surprised that people are thinking its wrong just to question it. I'll try to be a little more mindful of what I post.

  5. Would pay good money to see how tough you would be to his face though.

How much?  If its close to an NFL salary, i would probably do it.

But like I said, its not as important for me to be tough as it is for him to be.

I honestly dont hate the signing because it is an upgrade over what we had.. That being said, I would prefer to have players that dont allow themselves to be a victim of bullying.  I'm not trying to sound like an a-hole.  I'm sure Martin is a good guy and I probably would respect him.  You just have to question his mental toughness,  because the situation he was in is not common among men or nfl players.

  7. Man, at the very least, JR and Stewart should've been there. With all that wrestling stuff he and the RBs attended, I thought he and Stewart were good friends. His teammates not showing up had to have hurt.

Nobody really at fault here, and I can't blame Deangelo for how he's reacting. That mans lost his mother...I know hes gotta be hurting. Disappointed in JR, though. He should have atleast called Williams.

Someone else made a point that I think is great.

Do you wonder what DeAngelo did when JR's son died?  Does that have any impact on how you feel about this situation?

Someone else also said that they were never expected to show up for the death of a friends family member.  Funerals are for the people who had a connection with the person who died.  I thought that was a great point, too.
