  1. Love to have him here, but everyone take a breath. He and his family are from Baton Rouge and reportedly all are Taint fans. Family may trump friendship.

Since he went undrafted, he can't get a contract or signing bonus worth more than a drafted guy. The offer from us and every other team will be the same as the Taints offer, and he may choose to stay in Louisiana where his family is and where he went to college.

C'mon Trai, if you've got any dirt or incriminating photos of La'el in college, now's the time to use them.

  2. well there you go the perfect proof Cam is the answer.

He's got his mind made up. Why waste my proverbial breath when he's not open to discussing it. He expressed his opinion, so I expressed mine. If one of us proves the other wrong, does that mean the loser will like the winner? No. The loser will just think the winner is an a$$hole. And what's the point if we're all Panther fans? Feel like arguing? Go to the Atlanta or New Orleans or Tampa board. You can make plenty of enemies there.

  3. We have been hearing the "I / He needs to get better" every year and still we see the same problems and inconsistencies.

It's time to put up or shut up. Or people to stop with the unrealistic expectations and opinions.

I'm curious. If being a fan of the Panthers makes you so weary, why do it? Plenty of other teams to choose from.

If you like being depressed, that's on you. I choose to let go of the baggage of the past and look forward to a new chance to win it all.

Do what you want and I hope it works out for you.

  4. Going to be a bidding war though.

No there won't. CBA maxes the salaries and signing bonuses of UDFAs to below the last drafted player's contract. Those are going for minimum salaries and like $20k signing bonus. He's not going to be able to get a better deal than that, cause them's the rules. It's gonna come down to where he wants to play, and Trai could be the ace up our sleeve there.

  5. Something must be up with Clemmings for him to still be available this late.

A small stress fracture in his foot showed up during routine medical checks. He says he never felt any foot pain, so he didn't know he had it. If he has surgery to fix it, he might not be available for the first half of the regular season. But he doesn't want to get it fixed since it doesn't hurt and it can heal up on it's own. That's why he's nosediving. He was raw at OT to begin with, having only played there for 2 years.

  6. I agree with you. I think that he will compete at weakside linebacker and learn how to play safety in practice until he is ready to start. He will learn as fast as he can and his effort hasn't been questioned so it will simply be a matter of getting enough reps at both positions in order to learn his responsibilities in this defense. As you know, McDermott's defense requires high accountability and any breakdowns can result in big gains for the opponent. I hope he is a quick learner and a good instinctive player. I like his athleticism but here we go again with the rookies. Call me biased but I like veterans to start until the rookies show they know what they should be doing all the time. Or have the speed to recover and minimize the damage. As a panther fan you have to hope he lives up to the faith the Panthers had in drafting him in the first round. I will be his biggest fan once he proves to be the best guy out there.

And who says he has to learn multiple positions right away? I can easily see Shaq just playing WLB while TD is the one moving around and playing different positions at Jacksonville. Then if Shaq catches on quick, switch them at mid-season. If he's doesn't catch on quick and needs more time, leave him at Will all year to get experience then move him around next year.

    Makes sense.

TL;DR Move the vet around and keep the rookie in one position.

  7. After just one round of the draft, we already have a possible change on defense. The addition of Shaq Thompson could make our defense much more dynamic, but it could also reduce the role of our very underrated corner Bene Benwikere.

Gettleman and Rivera talked about Shaq's versatility some last night. The way I see it, Shaq will likely be out there for not only our base package, but also most nickel situations. Will the addition of Shaq give Bene a reduced role? Or do you expect Bene to start opposite Norman instead of Tillman? Some have even mentioned the possibility of moving Shaq or Tillman to safety. We also may add even more depth pieces in the coming rounds.

How do you expect our secondary to shape up?

Shaq stays on the field with Bene or Tillman replacing Harper vs. 3+ WR sets.

When we face teams with bigger, older #2 WRs like Roddy White, Vincent Jackson, Marques Colston, or Andre Johnson, I'd expect Tillman to be the #2 CB. He'd match-up better against those bigger, slower guys.

When we face smaller, faster, younger #2 WRs like Victor Cruz, DeSean Jackson, or Randall Cobb, Benwikere should be the #2 CB to match-up against that speed and quickness better.

  8. Will be gone by the time we pick in the third.

Thanks for the update. Last I heard he was a 5th rounder. I'll say RB Tyler Varga, WR Vince Mayle, TE Nick Boyle, OT Tyrus Thompson, or DE Anthony Chickillo. Some of those should be 5th round or later.

  9. Welcome to the reality Panther fans living outside the Carolinas face all 365 days of the year. It's such a thrill being so outnumbered and having to listen to Jag, Buc, Dolphin, Patriot, Eagle, Cowboy, and Steeler fans in Central Florida all year round. Hope you survive those 2 days of hell, you lightweights.
