  1. This. The secondary, in particular, played a big role in those games. Both games featured a very long run due to a member of the secondary not filling his gap or taking an absolute terrible angle on the ball carrier. However, I also noticed in those games that the offensive lines were more frequently able to generate push in the middle of our defense than with Star in there. That sometimes allows an O-Lineman to get to the second level and block our LBers, leaving the tackling duties to the underperforming at the time secondary. Football really is the epitome of a team sport. Star's absence alone didn't lead to those terrible games in defending the run, but it did contribute.
