  1. Wilson is better when scrambling...he's like a mini-Rowrhlesberger that's fast...so it might be ok that he has constant pressure up the middle?

cant stand the guy and super glad he decided to throw the ball from the one yard line instead of handing off to the tank

  2. Unger is a shell of his former self. Injuries have really taken a toll on him. That's not to say they don't need a center, because the interior line is the biggest weakness by far, but the Saints aren't getting the Max Unger that was a Pro Bowl caliber player.

The 1st round pick is a wash.. since that's essentially Jimmy Graham now. Besides their track record in Round 1 is borderline crappy, while the mid rounds is where they unearth gems.

unger was a pro-bowl caliber anchor blocking next to a DT turned OG (Sweezy,) who has been heavily suspect and penalty magnet. there has to be quite a bit of drop off there in the running game.

Carolina's 4-3 is Taylor-made to defend Seattle and asides from the playoff game, the Hawks have needed a couple fumbles and last minute mistakes to beat the Panthers.

The Panthers know the Hawks better than any other team outside of the NFCW and are improving at the one place the Hawks are declining...that's in the trenches. see us in the NFCC.

  3. Strangely the only year I don't remember people bitching was the year Hurney gave everyone stupid contracts that everyone constantly complains about now.

That was a different NFL and we had no UDFA outta nowhere running around getting is into the playoffs.

  4. Brutal. If we go into this season with KB and a bunch of number four-fives I will be sick.

you can't just ignore Greg Olsen in that list. he's been the #2 option for a while.

just think if Tolbert was there to block pass rushers instead of having to use our second (maybe even best,) receiver in the backfield?

  5. the good thing is that we are fully aware of where the personnel needs upgrades and can plain as day see the missing puzzle pieces that need to be put into place.

we aren't far behind the truly elite teams in the NFL. Some more young talent from the draft and a couple truly professional workaholic vets at key positions and we are gonna be a handful that contends.

  6. Look at how it's done folks. Big FA signings, big trades. This is how you rise to the top. We want to follow Seattle's lead on the field but are too scared to imitate them off of it because we can't accept that it isn't 2002 anymore.

Who are we supposed to trade and what money do we have for all-pro players that aren't already on our team?

dude....FA day 1 isn't the smartest day to go on a drinking binge if you're a panthers fan.

let's see how this thing shakes out and see who we've drafted. we have Kelvin, Olsen and Ginn as receivers. it's not like we don't have options. we have a monster front 7 on defense and our corners are sublime, we just need a good draft and our oldest core player is Thomas Davis by about 5 years.

  7. Sip that Kool-aid, son! "Derp. We're going to be ELITE in a few years, guys." This board has been saying that for over a decade.

    This.

This. Johnson and Gore had all the choice in the world to come play with Cam. But they chose an overrated QB, with the best WRs in football, who play in the softest division in the NFL instead.

    That last line was sarcasm.

I doubt Gore had any interest from PNthers FO and Andre is on the last stretch of his career.

I just get the feeling that the Panthers want Their true talent to come from the draft. it's worked pretty well so fAr

  8. Yeah, we have a plethora of possession receivers, KB, Olsen and Cotchery...with Bersin being the fringe situational slot receiver.

would love an upgrade over Cotchery but know that we could find that in the draft. Ginn and Corey stretch the field so it's not like we need another burner.

No reason to spend the money on a #2 FA when we're probably gonna draft one regardless.

  9. Team still needs a number 2 receiver, period

in a lot of ways, I consider Greg Olsen to be that #2. having another underneath type possession receiver might clog things up.

we have Corey Brown and are about to get Ginn, so it's almost like someone is going to be the odd man out already, even before we probably draft a receiver that will be an upgrade over Cotchery eventually.

  10. Nobody has said Tolbert is fast. He's not. But, he's fast compared to Nick O'Leary. For the record, he has three 100 yard rushing games in the NFL, but they were all for the Chargers.

I know for a fact that Brad Hoover had at least one 100 yard rushing game for us. He was very rarely called upon to carry the ball for us, but back in '00 when we just flat out ran out of RBs he started at RB for us and carried the ball 24 times for 117 yards in a win vs. the Packers.

Tolbert ran a 4.75 40 coming out of college. Brad Hoover reportedly ran in the 4.6s. O'Leary barely outran the fastest offensive linemen at the combine this year while weighing about 50 pounds less. That's why I have serious questions about him being an NFL caliber athlete.

    O'Leary was...

    17th out of 18 TEs in the 40 (4.93)

7th out of 12 TEs in the 3 cone (0.55 seconds behind 1st place, only 0.22 seconds ahead of last place)

6th out of 11 TEs in the shuttle

10th out of 10 TEs in the vertical (tied with two other for last at 30.5")

9th out of 11 TEs in the broad jump (2" ahead of last place)

4th out of 14 TEs in the bench press (Yay!)

Now, keep in mind, this is considered one of the weakest TE classes in recent memory and Nick O'Leary is clearly one of the, if not the worst athlete at the position in the class. If you want to classify him as a FB, fine. FBs are very rarely drafted anyway these days.

The numbers add up to a guy who will be a late round draft pick or possibly even go undrafted. That's just the truth. Drafting this guy in the 3rd round would be insane.

you guys keep talking about O'Leary as a TE when I'm talking about him replacing Tolbert. O'Leary has better hands out of the backfield and is a big body to lead the rushing attack and blocking in the backfield.

I don't want O'Leary as a TE, I want him as a blocking back with great hands out of the backfield.

even Olson has very low YAC and I'm not expecting that out of OLeary either...I'm just tired of Olsen being used as a blocking back when he is our second best receiver and is wasted having to do that.

Plenary can replace Tolbert as an H-back and is more of a threat out of the backfield than Tolbert is. 2/10 of a second off of Tolberts combine time which was like 7 years ago. please don't try to continue this blabber about Tolbert as he is past his prime and costs us millions to do I'm not even sure what he does anymore.

  11. Hoover was a RB coming out of college. . O'leary is a slow TE you want to transition to a H-back. .

Beyond the fact that Tolbert and Hoover are faster than O'leary. . They both know how to be running backs.. O'leary hasn't ever taken a hand off in college. .

Can you honestly see O'leary rushing for a 100 yards in a pro football game??

I don't know how you can say that Tolbert is fast and I'm not looking for O'leary to rush the ball unless he needs to.

please share with me these magical games where hoover and Tolbert have rushed for 100 yards in a game as a panther.

  12. Stop with the O'leary crap.. you make it even worse talking about drafting a FB in the 3rd round. . He is a slow unatheltic player.. That we have no clue can play in this league. . Tolbert is a s certified play maker who can out run LBS and run over Db's. .

Tolbert did none of the above this past season. Gettleman also quoted that the running game is being phased out, which was one of the reasons he is cutting DLo as a June 1st cut.

don't be surprised if Getts uses his other June 1st cut on Tolbert.
