  1. Schefter: Filed to ESPN: Tom Brady suspended four games, Pats lose 1st round pick in 2016 and a 4th in 2017, and team fined $1 million, per source

And just so we're all clear on how the world works...

Remember when the Pats were taping defensive signals, and inflating the stats of sub-par players? Remember when they used to trade them away to other teams for draft picks, and they would ultimately end up being garbage elsewhere?

Well, they picked up one of those guys from a draft pick acquired by trading away a stat-inflated Matt Cassel.

That guy... he's mad about the punishment.

  2. Look I hate the Patriots and Belichick and Brady and I'm not going to spend the time debating an excessive punishment against the villains of professional sports, but that is a patently absurd punishment. Have a clear head about this people.

So...do you have a team that you pull for? Do you not want them to have a shot at a Super Bowl? How would you feel if we never made the playoffs because the Bucs cheated and got the bid EVERY SINGLE YEAR?

If it were up to me, I'd give up the Panthers first round pick every year for a handful of rings.

  3. they hung 45 on the colts because they were better..dumbest story ever

    Started in October...

"Payment in the form of gifts from Jastremski to McNally was also referenced, in the form of shoes and other swag.

Jastremski: I have a big needle for u this week

McNally: Better be surrounded by cash and newkicks….or its a rugby sunday

    McNally: fug tom

Jastremski: Maybe u will have some nice size 11s in ur locker

McNally: Tom must really be working your balls hard this week

Note that this all began about the time that Tom Brady’s season turned around, from dreadful, to pro bowl caliber as the Patriots surged. Later texts also reference getting payment in the form of shoes."

  4. Probably unlike most of the huddle, I am not 100% sure Cam can lead us to a Superbowl win or become that great QB we hope and expected him to be. He has been inconsistent since coming into the league.

Yes, he has had some significant limitations (OL and OC) but OL should be much improved this year.

I would like to be able to see him with an actual OC who has produced top 10 offenses but unfortunately, I do not see Shula getting fired due to our defense keeping all the games close. I hope I am wrong on that.

So, Cam has to take that next step WITH Shula. As of right now, I am weary of investing the farm on a guy that is as inconsistent as Cam.

WHY does everyone keep saying that OL should be much improved this year??? We didn't draft an OT that can start, we signed the blindside, who has been dropped by 2 teams in 2 years. You know the problem. Fix it.

PS: I still do agree that Cam needs work when he does get time to throw. Really hoping that he hasn't capped on his ability.

  5. There will be no bidding war - all teams are required by the CBA to offer essentially the same money.  They can alter the structure and guarantees, but the dollar amounts will be essentially the same from all teams.

I did not know that. Thanks

At least he gets to pick his team. Sorry Rex...and front offices of Jags, Browns, Raiders, Titans, Jets....

  6. Like I said in another thread, why not just sign him? What's to lose? It's a low risk/high reward situation. If it turns out that he WAS involved in the murder, then you can just easily cut him. Pull the damn trigger. Would be a steal if it turns out he wasn't involved in the murder.

That argument was better suited for drafting him in the late rounds, and locking him into a low price. If a bidding war starts, and the kid doesn't already have a team in mind that he'd take anything to play for, I think he'll get his money.

  7. My fear too. I think TD may have just announced his replacement. I know there was talk about TD and the Panthers working on an extension a couple of weeks ago but then we heard nothing more. Might not be anymore to talk about after this pick.

Either way, LB was a need. Kuechly is still the only great long term player in that bunch. Just didn't think we'd address in the first.

PS: a lot of his highlights have him playing RB.

  8. I'm just curious where we play him. We play a 4-3 base, but we only actually put 3 LBs on the field on a little over 30% of defensive snaps last year. I don't see taking snaps away from Luke or TD to get him on the field, so he's either going to have to straight up play SS or he's going to have to play in some sort of joker role to see a decent amount of snaps.

    TD one year left. Max.

  9. Ok folks, one week to go.

Much has changed in April, and the draft somehow seems to have gotten even more difficult to predict. I can't remember a draft where such question marks remained at picks 10 and below.

Picking a single pick per round seems pointless. As such, I have decided to give you my top 2 picks for rounds 1-3, with a few other possibilities thrown in.

    Round 1

Andrus Peat - OT - Stanford - At 6'7 330 pounds this hog mollie could anchor the offensive line for years to come. This would put two Stanford tackles on the Panthers roster this year.

Landon Collins - S - Bama - Hard hitting run stuffing safety that could make Roman Harper expendable. Collins was my original first round mock selection. He fell off due to wide receivers falling to the Panthers. I think he may be there now.

Other possibilities: Todd Gurley, DJ Humphries, Eddie Goldman

    Round 2

Preston Smith - DE - Miss St - Panthers liked Smith at the Senior Bowl, and we all know Gettleman loves him some defensive ends. Smith has the frame and the motor to develop with Kony Ealy as a couple of solid defensive ends for the next 5 years.

Devin Smith - WR - Ohio State - 27 yards per reception. I repeat, 27 yards per reception at Ohio State. Could be a solid #2 for the Panthers. Would be the second best receiver on the roster day 1 of OTA's.

Other possibilities: Cedric Ogbuehi, Jake Fisher, Breshad Perriman

    Round 3

Devin Funchess - TE/WR - Michigan - Has been buzzing on the huddle lately, and for good reason. Many compare him to Kelvin Benjamin. Having Funchess, Benjamin, and Olsen on the field together would create a lot of opportunities against teams with smaller corners.

Justin Hardy - WR - East Carolina - Hardy has impressed every team he has met with, including the Panthers. He may have worked himself up to a 3rd round selection. Skilled player that fills a need. It doesn't hurt that he also brings a built in local fan base.

Other Possibilities: Duke Johnson, Jacoby Glenn

Yes!!! Collins!!! Yes!!!! Roman Harper and Tre Boston is not the answer! Goooooo SAFETY!!!!

Whoa. I just realized that we can technically win the division with a 0-9-7 record. Mind blown. Have got to stay alive long enough to see that team win the Super Bowl.

We're 4-1 against the Colts. Keep the scene alive!!! But seriously, after a quick look, we don't fare well against these seemingly easy opponents this year. Jag 2-3, Redskins 4-7, Texans 1-2, Eagles 3-6, Green Bay 4-9, Dallas 3-9, Tennessee 1-3, Seattle 2-7. Ouch. Ready to turn the tables a bit this year.

  12. Debatable that he is even the top safety anymore. Big time liability in coverage and really just a box safety to me. Rather we wait and address the position in the 3rd with someone like Sample or Tartt if he's available. Collins' stock has been falling as of late and will honestly probably be available at 25 but I don't want him there.

I don't believe the "stock is dropping" ideas anymore. Last year, our original prediction was Kelvin. As the weeks went on, the predictions kept getting tweaked. Same thing with Star the year before. Still think Collins will be a first round guy.

  13. A 3rd round comp pick would be a beautiful thing. Sure, Hardy was a beast. And I'd rather he never got into trouble/still on the team. But look at what some guys were traded for today...and then factor in the 10 million dollars less per year we'll have to pay that draft pick. Probably best for all parties with Cam/Luke's contracts coming up that we'll be without Hardy, and have a 3rd rounder and tons of cap space as a bonus.

I still liked the idea of keeping him and using this situation to save a little loot. Let the past be the past. Yes, we spent 13m for almost nothing last year, but it had to have put us in a better negotiating position than if he'd played all year, and well. The fact that DG isn't trying to take advantage of this situation by being pragmatic doesn't speak much to his "all business" mentality.

Either way, if Hardy goes, I hope it's the Raiders. AFC + far away.
