  1. Guy had a good senior bowl week too. A little overshadowed by Steven nelson or he may have been a legit riser.

I was wondering what happened to him. People were raving about him at the Senior Bowl but he completely disappeared in the last month or so.
  2. You were already wrong about comp% now you want to compare a 10 year Super bowl mvp vet to a 4 year vet..

What was Rodgers numbers in his 1st 4 years again? ?

Has Rodgers every played with less than 4 reliable pass catching options??

Maybe you should look at that Packers surrounding cast before posting again. .

That wasn't my point. I know that Cam has jack poo for support. All I am saying is that he can still improve even with the help that he currently has. You act as if Cam is the greatest QB ever and all he needs to take the next step is better help.
  3. And nobody was complaining when he put up his best passer rating, comp % , Td to int ratio in 2013.. So what the fug is your point again??

And when will you answer my question? ?

A completion percentage of what? 62? Just because it's his career best doesn't mean it's good. My point was that he still has plenty of room to improve even if his situation wasn't the best.

And I can't answer your question because I don't know. Every quarterback is placed in a different situation and it's difficult to distinguish if the quarterback makes those around him better or if the players around him make him look good.

  4. I'm going to give you a chance...

What QB is asked to do all the things you see Cam having a problem with. . Behind a bad Oline, inconsistent running game that he has to be a major part of, below avg. Play caller, and only 2 reliable pass catching options. .

    I'll wait. .

Cam's help was only absolutely terrible last year. In 2013, he had a Pro Bowl LT, Centre, and fullback, a decent WR 1 and 2, a great tight end, and an 11 ranked rushing attack. That isn't as bad as some of you suggest.
  5. That poo only happens if you give him a better supporting cast and he doesn't have to carry 77% of the offense...

Like he has the past 4 years. .

Maybe you should look at the past and other QB so you can understand how lucky we are to have Cam..

You act as if I'm a Cam hater. I'm not. I think Cam is a very good quarterback, but he still has a ways to go. Here are some of the problems I see with Cam:

-He can fail to sense pressure from the outside and struggles to step up in the pocket unless he has A LOT of room to work with

-He struggles with anticipating when receivers will get open, he has to see the receiver first before he passes

-He has a tendency to stare down receivers on his 1st read

-At times he can be very slow going through his progressions. A receiver may be open for a second or two before Cam sees him. By that time the window has closed up.

Most of these things can be improved without the help of a better supporting cast.

  6. You might want to take a look at Andrew Luck's completion % before throwing that around.

No other QB in NFL history has accounted for more touchdowns as quickly as Newton has in his first 4 seasons.

Fact of the matter is, Newton did not come into the NFL having had 3-4 seasons in college to perfect his craft as a pocket passer like a number of the other guys. He had one year in the SEC. He's been playing catch up his first 4 NFL seasons. Give him time.

He took the next step in 2013 when he had a real starting left tackle.

Unfortunately 2014 was one big series of unfortunate circumstances all happening at once, with the surgery, the injuries, our FO deciding to clear out the entire WR core while Newton recovered from surgery, Gross retiring. It was not the norm by any means.

Even with all that, early on in the season before the injuries began to pile up, Newton looked damn sharp as a pocket passer.

This thread is quickly turning to a shitfest, like usual of course, so I'm just about done.

To be honest, I couldn't care less about what Cam has done in his first 4 seasons and how it compares to the other quarterbacks around the league. All I care about is where he is now as a quarterback and how he can improve to take the next step to becoming a consistent top 10 passer.

  7. Cam is already a good pocket passer at learn as he stays patient and stays fundamentally sound. Of course the line had something to do with the pressure that he felt to the point he often felt phantom pressure and took off too soon. But that isn't an excuse for him not to continue to work on his fundamentals and keep evolving into the complete quarterback that we know he can .

Oh I completely I agree. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that Cam can still improve on his mechanics and such. I'd almost prefer if Shula made Cam stay in the pocket in training camp and eliminate some of the silly read options and quarterback powers to really drill into Cam's mind of who he needs to become. At least to a certain extent anyway.

  8. I love how these threads quickly morph into counter attacks against Rivera and everyone's whipping boy, Shula , without acknowledging the elephant in the room. Newton is inconsistent and often lazy in his mechanics often relying on his athleticism. How many guys can even throw the ball 30 yards on a rope off his back foot? Feel free to criticize Rivera and Shula but that doesn't change that he is right on with his comments.

I agree with what Rivera is saying, but if you want Cam to become a pocket passer then you have to call plays as if he's a pocket passer. When Cam gets into a rhythm with his arm, he can be very good. After rewatching the first half of the season, I've seen that these designed runs that Shula calls for Cam end up killing his momentum passing the ball. I just find that Rivera is being kinda hypocritical with his comments. I'm pretty sure Voth wrote an article about this at about midseason.
