  1. This guy makes so much sense to me that I'm surprised he's not coming up in more conversation or that we haven't (according to Ken's list) had a reported meeting with him yet.

At 6', 180lbs with a 4.5 average 40 time, he reminds me as much of a young Greg Jennings as anyone else in this years draft. He excels at cross field routes across the middle, generally being the high percentage receiver underneath the #1 wideout but with definite YAC ability.

Now most of this board has picked up the usual post combine/pro day blindness to the fact that elite athletes don't always make good receivers and this guy is not the fastest or biggest receiver in the draft, but Greene is a Biletnikoff Semi Finalist, twice All-ACC and is in the conversation for greatest ever FSU receiver alongside Anquin Boldin.

Given he's great friends with KB, is a leader in the locker room, has great hands and can provide another receiver in the intermediate range that Olsen works so successfully, I just don't get why he isn't in the round 2-3 discussion instead of the likes of Perriman/Strong. Add in the fact that 4.5 isn't exactly a slow 40 time and that he has punt return experience, to me he's an absolute no brainer if he falls into the mid/late third round.

TLDR: This guy is a receiver FIRST, has great chemistry with KB and is a high percentage guy that would help relieve pressure from KB, Cam and Ginn in the same way that Olsen acts as a pressure release in short/intermediate routes with YAC ability. I would love to consider him with our 2nd or third, if he was 15lbs heavier he would be in the first round discussions.

  2. True, but winning it with a losing record, to me at least, doesn't even feel like a win.  We beat a team riddled with injuries and a terrible backup QB only to face the music after that, that we aren't ready for big time.  We should be looking to compete with Seattle, not with teams like Tampa.

the whole idea isn't that we're going to be happy just winning the division and losing early in the playoffs every year forever.  even then there are a lot of "model franchises" bandied about as being far superior to the panthers on this site who did just that for years before breaking through and winning titles which is how it goes in the NFL sometimes.  for once this team seems to making something resembling progress and people are guardedly optimistic.

actually the idea is that, as far as the panthers go, we're in an uncharted place as a franchise right now.  it really is okay to let go of your internet badass persona for one nano second and be happy about back to back division titles.  your dong probably won't shrivel up and fall off i promise.

All I'm saying is one step at a time, and looks like we've finally taken the first couple of steps under Gettleman's guidance.

  3. I have faith in Gettleman, and it's too early to get really worried since we haven't even drafted, but to say Oher solved a problem is a bit of a reach considering he was barely better than Bell.   Ginn filled the ST roll, but to say he's filled a "speed need" is a bit of a reach too.  He had some success here, but he dropped a lot of deep balls and is getting older.   The Dickson hype is unreal for a guy who had like 150 yards the entire season, I suppose we just remember that one game though.   So to reiterate, I trust DG and will patiently wait, but it seems (as usual) this board seems content on settling for mediocrity.  It seems winning the division with a losing record is the pinacle of our dreams on here.    I'm hoping we get some gems in the draft and laugh at any doubts.

I still think Jennings should be signed if reasonable and we should still draft a speed WR, because we're one Ginn injury away and one "Philly-deepball-catch-ouch-my-shoulder-hurts-again" away from being super slow.

5 years ago, winning the NFCS in back to back seasons was beyond a dream for most of us.

  4. And yet another example of missing the point altogether.  And, by the way, i agree with Gettleman's general philosophy about team building even if he doesn't make all the moves that i would like him to.  I am still a Gettleman guy even though i don't have to sniff his jock.

BYW, Hurney was paid millions, as are a lot of GMs who end up washing out of the league, so paying someone millions just doesn't do it for me.

I think that Gettleman could have worded things a little differently to keep expectations to a minimum, and I am sticking to my point.

I'll throw you a bone. Fine, I get that Gettleman hasn't been great with the media during his time here. He's very straight up and sometimes overly open with some thoughts while he's massively closed on others e.g. contracts. I think there are better "press GMs" out there definitely. The Hardy and Steve Smith sagas were difficult for him and could have been handled a little better, but really this means nothing to the product on the field that he's helping to put together.

So do I care that what he says in his press conferences gets extrapolated and mis-interpreted by the media?

    Could not give a toss.

  5. People weren't even necessarily thinking that we would even keep Dickson or Dwan, so that's kind of a stretch to say that they were mid-tier signings. Most were thinking Cole or Edwards, and Dickson is hardly some huge step at TE. We arguably could have done without him as much good as he did in our offense last season. I could name some more intriguing---or at least equal---prospects out there right now, but that would really be a useless argument.

Most people were concerned with the receivers, and most of them weren't expecting us to sign Cobb or even Smith. So why even bring them up?  Many people thought and still think that Ginn was basically a special teams signing. I guess he will give us the basics as far as a receiver goes, and, sure, I suppose that he fills that basic "need for speed".

And this is my point, no where in this do you actually explain WHAT you are looking for. All you're doing is complaining about a lack of money spent, regardless of who was available to spend it on. The same tired complaint made every year on this board.

  6. CJ is an elite 4-3 DE. He's a much, much better player than Greg Hardy. He's arguably the most underrated player in the entire NFL. He's a complete player, he can stop the run and get after the QB. Not many DE are complete players. He's our DL anchor and one of the biggest leaders on the team. His motor never quits and he's very durable.

Besides, you do know that CJ isn't even 2 years older than Greg Hardy. Right? And he's only 18 months older than Josh Norman.

    Batman laying down some truths

  7. 3.5-4 million a year for Crabtree is fair. Some of you rather win the cap space olympics rather than paying a fair price for a number 2 WR.

I'd love to know Gettleman's end game here with the WR position. He felt like we lacked speed so adding Ginn may just be good enough in his mind.

I think his endgame is to not spend that money on mediocre receivers, draft some talent and carry the cap over to next year where it can be used to sign some of our real talent.

  8. One small hitch in our comp pick for him could be if his suspension from the league is significant. Any suspension limits his snaps for the year and I believe that plays into the comp pick as well (I could be wrong). So if his suspension is big (which I don't think it will be but could be) then that may factor in to our comp pick. As well as the contract amount which has been discussed.

Edit the font size is weird - trying to fix.

He has to play 10 games for us to get a comp pick, so as long as his suspension is less than 6 games we should be fine.

  9. I shot down every single argument you made, Boy

Just because you 'shot down' his argument with ridiculous arguments of your own that you have no evidence for doesn't make your opinion the right one. You know the best thing you can put around a young developing receiver? A great defence. Go and watch how many times our defence has bailed out Cam after an interception or poor overthrow. They then force a 3 and out or turnover and put the ball right back into Cam's hands. If Cam doesn't understand and appreciate this (and we have plenty of post game comments to suggest he does) then we should just give him 5 first round receivers and see how many games he can win us.

So many people here are butt hurt that Cam isn't putting up as many stats as Luck or isn't as big a deal for the team as Luck is, when in fact they're losing the bigger picture about winning football games. I couldn't give a fug if we gave Cam a one legged receiver from the CFL as long as we carry on winning football games.

  10. Wow, a lot of hate on here for a guy that's one season removed from being a big part of why we went 12-4. He was as much a reason for out success last year as Hardy was but now he's a year older he's just terrible and should be absolutely fine with being cut?

I get his dig at JR didn't go down that well but twice in two years now we've had people bad mouthing players that have been here for half our entire history. Just let him move on and accept that it's purely a financial decision.
