I’ve read a lot of tweets from reporters saying the big reason they won’t trade him is the cap hit they will take in doing so. Don’t know how a team could make that easier on them in a trade but it will be interesting to see.

We’d likely have to take a bad contract as well.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports "no one believes" Deshaun Watson will be traded.

That's via sources "knee deep" in the situation. Rapsheet appears to be referring to teams that might be interested in acquiring the elite young quarterback. Rapoport also reports the Texans do not view either the start of free agency or the draft as "any sort of deadline." Rapsheet believes the drama will last for a "very, very long time." That is consistent with the established facts, as each side continues to dig in, both out in the open and via leaks.

Looks like we’ll be drafting a QB.

And the Giants didn’t extend OBJ to trade him

In January, they said they were going with Tua--they draft an injured QB, no OTAs, camp, preseason, etc. and they are ready to move on?  That is crazy.

You are right--they have about $27m in cap room and must re-sign players.  They have 2 firsts--the smart play here is to move back, add a second, and still get the T and WR in the first.

Miami may have and still may be interested, but this speculation they're going to give up their whole 1st round stockpile is insanity.

I think people will be surprised that the price the media thinks Houston will get, they won't get.

I think the rumored 3 1sts and McCaffery trade is the one that ends up happening. That gives Houston a guy they can bill as "The face of the Houston Texans" after losing Watt and Watson, plus a 1st rounder to get one of the guys in the draft to replace Watson.

Look at it from this perspective.

NYJ: 2-14 atrocious team with a new HC trades their best player and 3 1st round picks and gets Watson, they have nothing to build a godawful football team. This team is worse then the freaking 2010 Panthers who actually had talent, they NEED 1st rounders. Zach Wilson is said to be impressing, I honestly feel they go with him or Darnold.

Miami: The Dolphins go 10-6 with Tua playing 10, he had some rookie bumps (which is expected for a player coming off a hip injury) but looked like the player they drafted. Now the media is just SO convinced Miami feels they are going to give up their stockpile they spent YEARS building towards for a player who might be 30% better then Tua (Who I feel would be a great QB in the NFL).

CAR: Has a promising young defense who had the whole 2020 draft spent on it, probably a few FA pieces away. Lost 7 games by 1 score , Deshaun Watson wins 7/7 of those imo (All the situations we were driving, but Teddy couldn't make a play). That would've had the Panthers at 11-4 playing the 10-5 Saints (As we would've beat them) for the division title. 100% of our wins were without Mccaffery, so we could likely survive without him and our 1st round picks for 2022 and 2023 (Watson replaces it this year).

We don't have the capital, but they (Dolphins and Jets) are both in position to take a qb in the draft or go with what they have--why would they trade a bunch of picks, etc.?   Panthers need to attempt to trade with Miami and let Houston know--if they think eliminating 2 suitors will drive watson's price up...

Why is Miami all of the sudden being portrayed as this team ready to sell the farm to get a QB this year?

Tua had a solid rookie season and I heard NOBODY before Watson say Miami was ready to move on. Why in the He$$ would Miami give up a top 3 pick and 2 other 1st rounders AND their 2nd year QB to get another QB?

Is Watson better? Probably, but they're not giving up their whole stockpile of picks for him.

NYJ have Zach Wilson in their grasp, I seriously doubt they're giving up the farm for Watson.

Texans have 6 division titles in previous 10-seasons -- Panthers have 3.

Texans have 7 winning records in last 10-seasons -- Panthers have 3.

Panthers have 7 losing records in last 10-seasons -- Texans have 3.

Texans made 6-playoff appearances in last 10-seasons -- Panthers with 4 including one where they fluked in with a losing record.

    FYI.

    And zero Super Bowl appearances.

That fluke 7-8-1 season had Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, and Drew Brees in that division, plus we actually won our playoff game and was competitive in the divisional round.

We also have two Super Bowl appearances , Houston has ZERO, nobody cares about playoff appearances.

I would not trade our two Super Bowl appearances so we can have some of Houston's mediocrity this past decade before Deshaun.

You need a QB.  a good one.  Does that mean sell the farm to buy some magic beans.  Here is the way I think of this trade with Watson:

    The three first rounders (equivalents):

    1.  Brown, DT

    2.  Burns DE

    3. Moore WR

In addition, they will want 2 more starters and probably (hopefully) Bridgewater.

Watson played well on a team without much of a supporting cast in Houston this past year.  They won 4 games.  Will this not be the same situation with a depleted roster here?

So this becomes about the difference between Bridgewater with a supporting cast and Watson without a solid supporting cast.   Of course, you have to assume Watson cannot have a supporting cast if we make the trade--maybe that is illogical.

Can we have a supporting cast for Watson (with the cap, free agency and draft?)  That is the challenge.

And the Panthers might be banking everything on this unusual year in free agency--can we fill these gaps with quality players AND go after Watson?  It is possible.

    How I look at 3 1sts

    Vernon Butler

    Kelvin Benjamin

    Shaq Thompson

5/10 1st round picks hitting is lucky

    for which team? both?

I think Miami has two first this year?  I would think 2 current year 1st would be really strong.

Also, what do you think the chance is the Jets aren't as aggressive as everyone thinks.

If they fall in love with Wilson they might be happy to keep the draft pics, not to mention the $30m in year extra cap.

They might not be willing to sell the entire farm like I think we are.

There is no other team in the NFL that Watson could bring a major organizational change as big as the Panthers getting him.

The Clemson fans would sell out PSLs and Watson Jerseys in days. Zero chance Watson goes anywhere else if it’s a highest bidder deal. Though, the Lions took a worse offer from the Rams, you never know what could happen.

Simply a factual observation on one of the possible outcomes within the set.  Folks seem to be ignoring how "old moneyed white men" just might behave.

Watson's contract obligates him to play for the Texans through the 2025 season...if he plays it out and goes somewhere else in 2026 through free-agency more power to him.

Here's the thing, unless his character/personality have reversed course since paying for Dabo...I believe Deshaun to be a respectful young man.  When it comes time to show up and play he won't act out in the wildly childish and inappropriate way you seem to suggest he is capable of -- but rather he will give it his best as he always has.

Houston would also have a 36 million dollar cap hit annually for someone to not play for them.

They will likely already lose 40% or more of their STHs this year.

if the Panthers draft a QB and have Teddy start the season, and with the team healthy and improved in all areas, they open the year with multiple wins, and keep on winning and are in a race for a good playoff spot because Teddy’s play has been stellar all year...and the rookie is ready.

    What then?

Teddy won’t be on the roster in 2021.

I could honestly see him forcing his way out of Charlotte if the reports he was offered to the lions are true.

also, there’s zero chance Tepper throws him out there when the team lost 90% of its ticket revenue last year, nobody would go.

Adding Deshaun Watson would give us a playoff team next season imo. Having an already trained and experienced QB with a high level of talent going against the Brees-less Saints, grandpa Brady a year older, and the pitiful Falcons = PLAYOFFS.

I’d personally frontload the cap hit in 2021-2023 and field a team that can make the playoffs, then when we have 1st rounders again, we go for a SB.

Sign Watson to a 10 year deal like Mahommes

Do we really want to be paying 40 Million for a QB when we can get a rookie on a rookie deal?

Some of us here didn’t fall in love with Zach Wilson.

This happens every year, the first 2 QBs go off the board then the media fall in love with mediocre prospects.

If we kept #3, I would’ve been opposed to getting Watson.

  12. 6 minutes ago, Peon Awesome said:

If you're the Dolphins, how do you not at least offer Tua, #3 and next year's #1 for Watson? And if you're the Panthers, how do you outbid that without completely ruining your chances of building a complete team?

In the off chance Miami decides not to offer a trade and Watson decides he would refuse a trade to the Jets, maybe there's an offer that could make sense. I like Teddy, the 8th pick, and an extra 1 and 2 as my max offer. Or if they don't want Teddy, you can leave him out. But since we're paying his signing bonus, you're talking about a mediocre bridge for whoever they draft at 8 for like $17 million that they can cut with no dead cap.

Why would you give up draft capital when you have a young QB on a rookie deal?

If anything, Houston would have to give Miami picks, Miami isn’t going to flip QBs lol

  13. You people aren’t willing to trade

    Vernon butler

    shaq thompson

    kelvin Benjamin

    DJ Moore

    CMC

    Derrick Brown

    brian burns

    our 1st rounders from 2014-2020

Hate to burst bubbles, but CMC is the only one who is anywhere near watsons level.

DJ Moore is great, but people look at him a little too much through black and blue glasses

    for Deshaun Watson?

  14. If trump knew, there's no way in hell Pelosi didnt know in late Feb when she encouraged people to go to Chinatown.

The government as a whole is evil (including trump) dont try to put up the other political spectrum as heros

  15. They conveniently leave out the doctor rule "one test per family." Meaning? For every 1 person positive, they probably ignored 2-3 tests per family.

A family member of mine went and got the test... She was immune deficient and I wasn't. They gave it to her as there was no risk of me even needing hospitalization. Positive result, so 4 likely positive cases (4 members had THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS) and 1 confirmed.

I am feeling 100% better, but the 2.5% death rate people throw around is bull crap. If for every 1 confirmed they miss 3, we're almost at 750k.

Remember, not everyone is going to get tested until they feel ungodly sick.
