I'm having a hard time shaking the feeling that Scoot and Lemelo could be a crazy special back court. Miller is giving me a bit of a kevin knox comparison.  I thought he was going to be really good but he hasn't done much in the league. Miller seems to be the better fit but Scoot and Melo could make us contenders.

I'm on the Scoot train. All aboard.  I know that the roster fit isn't perfect but I agree Melo and Scoot could be uniquely special.

There is no way that any competent GM in the league would ever say DSJ is even a sliver of a reason not to draft Scoot. Either we are completely overvaluing DSJ or completely undervaluing the potential in Scoot!

Yes, the idea of a 6'7 PG paired with a 6'9 SG (Miller) is enticing, I am worried about him being able to keep up with the quicker SGs that the league has. He also doesn't have the strength for the stronger SFs. We are going to have the same issue pairing our 6'7 PG with a 6'2 (Scoot) shooting guard but for some irrational feeling I do feel better even on defense with the Melo/Scoot backcourt.

Miller is not gonna be able to hang with a lot of SF that aren't too small actually. And he is gonna have to hang with faster or bigger shooting guards.  There is gonna be adjustment for both prospects but Scoot can play PG or SG from day one.

Hit the gym to play sf?

He's a wing bro, he's not guarding Jokic or Embiid. This is a 3pt shooting league he can play sg/sf/stretch pf.

I said start I said. He is 6'9" and under 200 pounds. The average NBA SF gonna have 20 to 30 pounds on him.

Yeah and Miller already has a 3 point shot.

Give me the 6'9 wing who can play multiple positions and shoot the lights out.

Can he really play multiple positions though?  He is a lightweight at SF. He is tall at SG but not exactly a big SG.  I prefer a prototype SG at like 6'6" 220.  He has as much positional versatility as scoot. Scoot is a PG/$G and Miller is a SG/SF. Miller is gonna have to hit the gym to become a SF. He is playing SG his rookie season mostly. Scoot can play SG and PG from day one and with healthy minutes at either. As far as shooting the lights out. I think Miller is hot and cold. I don't see the consistent "lights out" you do. Scoot is a dawg. He gonna make things happen every night, whether he shooting lights out or not. Man, we can find a streaky SG/SF with height and length at 27. Hell, probably in the second round this year.  He's gonna make a heck of a role player on a contending team but Scoot has star power.  Agree to disagree but I don't trust Melo to stay healthy anymore and my plan is is make the combo in the backcourt of Melo and Scoot work and if Melo can't play we got a backup plan.

Millers inside and mid range game is sub par for a guy that shoots as well as he does from 3, Scoot struggles from long range but his inside and mid-range is far superior to Miller

I don't understand how this translates to Miller being a more advanced scorer.

Scoot is also taking pointers and working with the Premier 3 point sharpshooter in the biz Curry.  That part of his game could develop quickly.

  6. Miller is the NBA draft version of Jalen Carter.

Stock took a hit from off court stuff but still considered top talent. They both also reportedly had some bad interviews and workouts.

Myself I'll take Scoot. Isn't he working with Curry to improve. That's a plus.  Miller is battling mono and has lost 13 lbs. I had mono once it's no joke but it also would make a great excuse if you wanted to be lazy.  Just saying I'll take the prospect who doesn't have to say "I can only refer you to my lawyer on that" three times a week. It's not going away.

I'll take the Bryce Young of the class. Scoot has kept his nose clean and did a trail run in a NBA style junior league.

  7. I disagree. I think Scoot and Memo can coexist in the backcourt and we play our bigs in the front. Today's NBA is a lot of small ball.  I want to see us being a transition fast offense with solid bigs and wing scoring off good passing. We likely not gonna really compete in the playoffs but let's be exciting fun ball.

If the prospects are close in evaluations and potential.. You go with the position of higher value..

Which would be point guard or off ball shooting guard right?  Athletic wings are a dime a dozen these days.  The rare ones can defend and shoot the three. Which Miller sounds like but another Miller could fill that SF spot at 27.  Leonard Miller is 6'10" with crazy wingspan and young and raw. Just saying. Go best available then fill needs.

The lineup they were referring to was Melo, Scoot, PJ, and Williams.

And a rookie or since we stuck with Hayward for one more year he fits. Good looking out. Reading is fundamental and some folks on here nearly illiterate.

Scoot said he can work with Melo. Either way our guards should be set and we might have a guy at center as well. PJ will be better especially with two guards who are elite passers. We might have a decent starting lineup. We need a coach over everything else now. I hope Jordan sells off his majority and the new group decides to fire Clifford.

So close to a decent starting lineup. Basically short a small forward if Bridges is not resigned but PJ is.  I feel like we can find a wing with that second 1st rounder.

  11. Watch scoot or Miller go number 1 and we get Victor only for him to be fragile and him and melo trade spots on bench all season. Lol. Shouldn't speak that evil but it reeks of Hornets luck. Personally I like scoot at PG and Melo at SG.  It won't really be SG and PG really cause both will move the ball down court. Kinda like Monta and Curry it will be a small ball backcourt with a combination of our young bigs in the frontcourt. I see nothing wrong with it.  Add a guy hopefully at SF in the later pick and hope he gets it quick.

What problems does he have off the court?

If he committed a crime why isn't he in jail right now?

Say you and I were friends and I asked you to bring me my gun. You bring me my gun and I commit a murder. Do you think you are a criminal for bringing your friend a gun?

Cmon man you sound ridiculous let this kid live. He did nothing wrong. Blame the guy who committed the murder.

It's called accessory to murder. It's a thing. Amazing what being a star at a huge college in a backwards part of the country can get ya out of.

The classic if he is guilty why he not in jail argument holds no water.  Only poor people are in jail. The rich walk or if rich people are protecting you you good too.

I'm done making assumptions about Miller but if two prospects are fairly equal I'm gonna take the one that didn't nearly derail his career with his choice of "friends"

I feel the same about those who say LaMelo's leaving every opportunity they can. This is a genuinely miserable fanbase though.

Of course we are miserable. Have you followed this team for long? Exited bout this pick but realistic that if we don't accompany it with a roster shake up and better coaching we are still doomed.

With the $$$ that Bridges wants we should resign Nick, PJ and Dennis and go from there. I don't think anyone wants Hayward and his contract so we got one more year of that BS. After the dust settles this team needs to build around whoever we end up with at 2 and hopefully Melo but if a team offers young pieces and maybe a draft pick thia year we need to entertain it. Ball on a max deal and playing 50 games could happen. That would hurt.

  14. Ya think Orlando would give up the 6th pick for Melo?  I doubt it but let's say they did.  Scoot then at six take a forward.  Jarace Walker or Hendrickson.  Either of those guys could replace Hayward. Also why is everyone so adamant that Scoot and Melo can't coexist?  Style of play is different and could actually mesh. Personally, I don't like the optics of Miller and his gun incident and Bridges going two rounds with a woman.  We need a culture change.   Clifford is boring and is like the John Fox of basketball. Avoid the Ja Morant guy and send the wife beater elsewhere.  Hire Doc Rivers and draft Scoot.

They could have him on the edge during running downs and move him inside to DE for passing situations--again, it is funny that we have no idea what he can do yet.  We can't trust the previous coaching staff enough to evaluate talent approaching their second contract negotiations--how does that happen?

Hence the comparison to Bennett.  My hope is YGM can fill that role or another. He is only 25 and has untapped potential because of the era of retardation.  That Chinn and Burns developed under those circumstances is amazing. I also hope Tremble and TMJ can finally reach their potential with better coaching.

  16. Have not given up on Yetur yet. I doubt the coaches have either since they have not got to see him first hand. I have some faith Envero willbe able to put him in the right places to produce.  He actually had a decent season last year or at least his most productive so far. Nice fumble recoveries and tackles.

I could possibly see him being a Micheal Bennett in this defense. This defense will be Envero's baby. He has many tools to utilize. Chinn, Horn, Burns, Brown and possibly YGM.  It could be the second coming of the LOB.

Im an anti tanker but I feel like management possibly tried to sneaky tank last season and it didnt work out. I believe they fired Rhule who they knew was garbage after the first couple games (took long enough) and replaced him with Wilks who they thought would stink it up worse and send us into the depths of the NFL. Turns out Wilks is a thousand times the coach that Rhule ever was or will be in the NFL and it backfired on them. Had they kept our bumbling idiot as head coach we probably would have finished much worse. To top that off with our QB carousel of crap I felt like they knew we struck turd and were ready to be led there by bad coaching and turd QB'ing. The shockers were Darnold looked better with Wilks and Wilks being a good guy got the players motivated.

I think plans became to tank but management made moves that accidentally made us gel a little better like showing Rhule the door and Wilks making Darnold look much better.

Also the CMC trade. That seemed like a tanking move.  Lo and behold Foreman shows out with a new simplified offense with less emphasis on passing to the back and simple north south running.

  18. Clooney got the kiss of death. Overdrafted, bad team and bad luck with injuries. He was gifted but a myriad of circumstances (some within his control and some not) have stunted his career. Honestly between the two new rookies that bull Rush run stopper across from Burns spot might be ok.

  19. This isn't the NBA you can't tank. You can trot out a Jimmy Clausen and end up with a Cam.  But the NFL is a results driven league and unlike the NBA you can't play half speed or bench starters just for draft status.  Putting the QBs out there that we fielded is the closest to tanking you will see in the NFL. The defense and running backs weren't having it.  Fact is we could have beat the Bucs if not for injuries in the secondary. It's just silly. It worked out. We didn't lay down and still got our QB. At this point it's even sillier to talk bout tanking and the shoulda coulda BS than it was during the season. Let it go dude.

  20. Chinn don't fit inside.  Shaq, TD and Chinn all fit as OLB in a 4-3 but in a 3-4 they move inside and responsibility change. I hope Brown works as a DE cause otherwise with the rentals we have we may need 3 guys upfront and can stop worrying bout the linebackers.  Shaq, Luvu and Yep Smith can hold down the inside and between the multitudes of options at Edge and designed blitzes from Luvu and the safeties we got on roster they should keep the pressure coming

So the front three is where I wanna see a shake up.  As a team coming into FA next year.  Ya think we can find a NT or 3-4 DE on the cheap? Maybe the rentals become more long term. If a handful of players from this off season produce we will be talking bout using the cap to resign or extend folks.

  21. 6 minutes ago, tukafan21 said:

The early years of the extension will have huge amounts of money going to Burns, but the cap hits won't be all that terrible.

Even if we only sign 1 big Free Agent, that would negate letting Chinn sign elsewhere after the season, there isn't going to be another unrestricted free agent from this squad next year that could get a good deal.

And we'll have enough cap room next year to go after someone good, finally getting rid of all these massive dead cap hits.

Next year we rule free agency. Moving up to one was huge. We will see if the draft works out for us this year.  Next year is where we shed some dead money and resign the core but add too.  Heck this year we were super active in FA and were working right at the cap. Chinn is a rockstar. He is the modern defense player. All the linebackers this year were basically based off Chinn.  Or Micah Parsons. The oversized safety and the undersized but diesel DE is becoming the norm.  That's why I wanted Jack. He is part of the next wave of quick but old school ILB.
