  1. I've actually surprised myself with the weight on the deadlift. It wasn't long ago that I just tried 405 for the first time. I've been pushing on bench, but I'm just not that strong on it. I got 305x1 on Sunday with Joscott, granted that was on my sixth set after also doing 135, 185, 225, 245 and 275, but I doubt I could do more even if I warmed up and jumped right on it. I'm trying right now to get to 1200lbs total combined on dead, bench and squat. So far I'm at 515 on dead, 305 on bench, and the most I've done on squat is 315, but I can get it 8x. Squats just kill my shoulder joints holding the bar on... the weight on my traps and back isn't an issue at all.
  2. Deadlift has quickly become my favorite exercise... partially because I'm pretty good at it, but it's just fun too. ...and it's a great total body exercise. I got 515 Monday, and I swear I thought my eyes were gonna pop out. Weirdly, I have no issues getting the bigger weight off the ground, the struggle is more towards the last 5-10% up.

  4. That is realistic if you do it right. Lift heavy, eat protein. I deadlifted again today and got another PR... 515x1
  5. It's not the weight it's the form... do it right and the weight will come... that goes for any exercise.
  6. Took Fiz's advice about doing deadlifts strapped and got some chalk from a guy that I did deadlifts with on Wednesday... Was able to easily get 405x4 and 455x2 unstrapped with chalk... that chalk is the bomb... and that was a really good point about being able to simply drop the weight if you get in trouble... something you can't do if strapped up.

  8. Joscott and I spotted a dude squatting 500 a week or two ago... he wasn't grunting he was yelling, but it was more of a pumped up thing... I don't blame him. I don't mind some noise, but if you're a dick like that guy 88 is talking about, just don't...
  9. There's one guy in our gym... younger dude... in good shape, not real big. Lifts an appropriate amount of weight, ie he doesn't overdo it, but he grunts a little much... Joscott knows who I mean. He seems like a nice enough guy though... he's just kind of intense. It doesn't bother me mainly because I wear earbuds and he's not that loud... I'll grunt here and there, but usually only when I like get up past 400 on deads or something... sometimes it just comes out. I've never seen anybody grunting doing cardio, that's just bizarre. Pretty much what CK said.

  11. Nice. There aren't any of those here that I know of. The Gold's I go to is ok, but could be a lot better. It's convenient for me, about halfway between my office and my house. Have any of the gym employees spoken to this guy?

  14. Man.... I did legs sunday and did some stuff I don't normally do... walking lunges in particular... good god I'm so sore.
