  1. Yeah she's really gotten into it... she started out with the Weight Watchers thing just dieting and lost about 18-20 pounds on that... then she started getting serious about walking and going to the gym doing classes (zumba, step, etc) and cardio. Now she's actually asking me "can we go to the gym" on Saturday mornings and stuff... it's a LOT better than being nagged about not going... lol I want her to start lifting with me but she's afraid she'll "look like a man"...
  2. It absolutely works both ways... I've seen plenty of fitness types be very arrogant and disrespectful of others who are just starting out.
  3. catfang is right... it's just jealousy more than anything imo... esp with women. My wife has said she gets that some... there are a lot of compliments (she's lost ~25 lbs) but some of them are the backhanded variety we've discussed before. I can say that I personally haven't really had that... I do get comments sometimes (moreso recently) that are like "dude, you must work out a lot" stuff like that... but honestly I take it as a compliment that they noticed. I was playing golf with a buddy of mine in a foursome with two of his other friends that I didn't know and one of them made some comment about my arms being big... he kind of said it in a weird way, kind of like questioningly if that makes sense... so I just kind of ignored it. Some people are just weird I guess. As far as being "obsessed" I wouldn't say that (about myself), I will say that I'm definitely addicted to it... who doesn't like feeling good and being strong? I just don't think there's anything "irregular" about it... as I was saying with Alice. I spend about 1.5-2 hours a day after work in the gym 5-6 days a week... but my wife and kids come too and we're all always home for dinner together so... some people may not like it, but idgaf.
  4. I'm sorry Jase, enlighten me... ATG? Good job btw.
  5. Yeah, I told you in the gym it's noticeable that you've been working out. BMI sucks... get one of those cute brunettes in the gym to do your bodyfat %. Win-Win.
  6. Yeah... PSC's a Panthers fan though so I give him the benefit of the doubt.
  7. Hawk, come on man... this is no way to water your moose.
  8. I'm glad you have... Now read what you just wrote and compare it to "regular people not obsessed". Smidge of difference. Had you expressed it in the terms you just did, I think you'd have gotten a substantially different response from me and others. As far as working out goes, you're right... there are more advanced people in here and more beginner oriented people in here. Like I said, everyone has different goals... none of which are wrong.
  9. I stopped reading right here. Don't be a dick... or gtfo. Everyone has different goals. What's regular and what's not?
  10. I do a little cardio before I lift, but nothing strenuous. I mainly do cardio after lifting... helps me not be so sore too.
  11. I got the Fitbit at Verizon when I bought my new phone the other day... they gave me a discount... Needless to say, the dipshit didn't bother to check and it doesn't work with my phone... It did work with my wife's iPhone so she tried it for a few days... not worth it in our opinion. Doesn't really do much... you have to put in so much data yourself, what's the point? Being returned.
  12. So THAT's how he lures them in...
  13. Yep, that's the exact reason I started this thread. Makes me happy. I hit chest today with this huge guy I've talked to once or twice before... (he's a panthers fan). He lugs in these giant chains... does bench with them. 50 lbs each. He did 5 reps with 315 and the chains. Then we were talking and I mentioned that Ravens guy that they said did 31 reps at 225 when he was 16. This guy pumps out 28 reps after 5 sets with the chains... impressive. He really pushed me today too. I suspect I'll be sore as hell tomorrow.
  14. I worked out and went home in time to take a shower and plop down in front of the TV.
  15. Did not get to... the machines were not available that I needed. It was very crowded last night for some reason?
  16. 60g of protein at one shot is a LOT. Eat some fiber. Killed back yesterday... I haven't done pull ups in months trying to heal my elbow, been hitting the pull downs and other such... I guess it works... Was able to get 4 sets of 10,8,8,8 while supersetting with bent over T-bar rows.
  17. It's like that giant guy in the video PSC posted said... it's different for different people. I've done exercises to failure before, but don't do it often because I don't often work with a partner. Joscott and I workout on the weekends some, but not during the week... Having said that, I do some power lifts, but strength is not my main goal... my goals are kind of mixed... I like getting stronger and I'm stronger than I've ever been but it's not really my main focus... At 40 I can bench 300 (1RM), deadlift over 300 for reps and squat 400 (although I don't squat much due to my shoulders)... so I'm pretty happy with that as is. I want to see what I can deadlift... I did 315 6X today, but don't really want to push it either... I'm pretty confident I can get 350 at least 2 times, but I have to work tomorrow and figured I'd done enough.
  18. I use the Smith, just rarely for benching... too easy to drop having to twist it.
  19. I have a feeling that your husband won't mind helping out with that...
  20. I agree. I'm sure some people can have a "disorder" involving body image and wanting to get bigger, but to imply that anyone who works out is doing that is not right.
