I really don’t get the hate. I’d prefer a couple QBs to him, but I would be fine and excited if we drafted him. People are worrying about him fumbling with his hands, umm let’s not let our QB get blindside tackled enough for it to be an issue??

I think the hate is from Pickett's connection to Rhule when he was recruited to Temple and the assumption he'd be our pick at #6 over much more talented, higher rated players.

The saints would have to trade away players from that defense to make the deal happen, also they would need to cut roby and jenkins. They have to replace 2 olineman starts from last year, and MT will not be in the deal to the Texans, bc the Texans dont want that expensive headache.

I dont think Watson would be coming to last year's saints team. He would be joining a gutted Saints team, with zero space next year as of this moment.

I still see the Saints as the leader in the clubhouse.  Too many offensive weapons that Watson would like to work with.   But the Saints would definitely have to take some lumps to make the deal happen.  Probably most of these on defense.

I'm saying that now, especially if he comes here.  I guess I will take a pause from the Panthers until he is traded later on, Rhule gets fired or Tepper sales the team.  I didn't think we'd ever become the freaking Jets, Browns and Bengals of old, but this team is turning into the armpit of the NFL.

That's where I am too.  If this deal goes down I will find another team to follow.

Good hopefully the Taints get him. Why mortgage the future and give up so much of a ransom for a guy who hasn't even played in a year and wasn't THE ABSOLUTE TOP QB in the league when he played last. He was good but he isn't worth what the Texans are asking. New Orleans probably has much better happy ending massage parlors anyhow so they win regardless. Roll with Cam another season and get some lineman to protect him while setting the stage to DRAFT a QB and develop him but of course our inept coaching staff can't develop players anyhow so let's let Rhule work his way out of this job and give the new coach first round picks to work with.

New Orleans is a totally wide open, do whatever you want city.  I don't think the people there would care about a player paying hoes for some action.   So there likely wouldn't be any public outcry if Watson joined the team.

I hate the idea of Watson being the face of the franchise for obvious reasons.

But if we gotta do this, Darnold better be going out with those 3 firsts. If Burns has to go, so be it - but we need to get something back - like a 2nd or 3rd.

If we dump Darnold's 18m and re-cast Watsons 35m base salary to some sort of bonus, we may be looking at 30m in cap in addition to the 30m or so we already have.

We can then eat CMC's hit in a trade to buffalo for some additional draft capital.

If we play our cards right, we could walk away with Watson, a second, a third, and 40m in cap.  We can build something with that.

Houston is setting the terms of the deal.  Not us.

With so many teams trying to get Watson, they can ask for whatever they want and get it.

  6. Ian Rapoport reporting the Panthers & Saints have definitely made offers for Watson.  Maybe other teams as well.  That includes the 3 first round draft picks as well as some young players.

Watson will meet with the teams and then decide if he wants to waive his NTC.

On Reddit Houston fans are already savoring the 3 Carolina draft choices (which will be high picks) and looking over the young talent we have on defense for who to take.   It's absolutely sickening (and soul crushing) for Panther fans.

which leads us to Rhule's comments about Brady at the combine---

Not only does Rhule do a lot of stupid, he also seems to be quite comfortable in broadcasting his mistakes.  That makes him look even more foolish.

    • Why say you didn't draft a Pro Bowl LT because his arms were too short ??
    • "maybe we should have played Brady Christensen more at LT"
    • I am Jay-Z
    • "you can't see the changes"
    • and so on and so on . . .

Is this an improvement over last year's starting unit and if so by how much?

Christensen played LT in college and some last year.  Just keep him there from day 1 of training camp and let Campen work with him to iron out any problems.

Moton is comfortable at RT so he stays there.  The pairing of the vet Moton with Brown may be a good one.  Lots of beef on that side of the ball.

    Christensen -  FA  -  Elflein  -  Brown  -  Moton

Shhh. I’m trying to pretend like that’s that happening. I’m over here in denial and you are trying to ruin it for me!

    Watson will be a Seahawk….

I'm hopeful Carolina's ineptitude and lack of talent will be our shield against Watson

You are right--our OL always seems to have multiple question marks--in this case right now, we'd have 4--can Elf handle center?  BC at LT, Brown at G?  ???? at RG?

The infuriating thing about last season was the lost opportunity to evaluate these two.   In the second half of a season going nowhere, the team could have given BC and Brown all kinds of playing time.  If they did, we'd now know if they were NFL starters or not.

Instead all those snaps were wasted on subpar vets who the team KNEW they were not going to keep.

It was just another example of the lack of planning and long term thinking . . .

I just feel like Thidobeaux is a bust waiting to happen. I've got no real justification to back that up; just a gut feeling.

At the Combine, in front of all the coaches & execs and media,  he took the microphone and talked extensively about building his "brand".

He just released some type of cryptocurrency ??         Thibodeaux's cryptocurrency

    Was quoted as saying

"there's nothing (a coach) can tell me that I don't already know"

which shows he may not be very coachable or easy to work with.

Has had to defend his love of football numerous times to the media.   Which makes me think "where there's smoke, there's fire . . ."

Thidobeaux just seems like he wants to be the next Kardashian.  So I have to wonder about his focus and commitment to the NFL.

Yeah, let the Falcons draft poor man's Matt Ryan. Very poor man's. Matt Ryan almost singlehandedly made BC relevant during his college days. That team sucked but he carried them.

I get a lot of Matt Ryan vibe with Pickett.  Everybody said Matty Ice was a one year wonder from Boston College with a noodle arm who might not be effective in the NFL.  Well the guy went to a domed stadium and lit it up for his whole career.  ROY, Pro Bowls, NFL MVP.  Ryan was a smart, hard working guy that had a just good enough arm strength to make it work.

Lots of guys are doubting Pickett and he very well could be a solid NFL QB as well.  His football intelligence and coolness under pressure at the Combine have really impressed me recently.

Sadly I don't think the Panthers would be the ideal place for him to develop.  Our team has so many holes, a bad OL and an unstable coaching staff.  Just the recipe for failure.

  13. I'm not so bothered by Pickett's small hands.  I wish they were bigger but he played fine with them at Pittsburgh.   And his arm strength is no problem either.  He showed at the Combine that he can make all the required throws.

Even so I still think Pickett would do best playing in a domed stadium.   Saints or Falcons would be the perfect environment for him.  No worries about weather or wind.  Just play.

For the Panthers, one additional point has to do with Rhule as the head coach.  If he gets canned in 2022, the new coach will undoubtably want his own QB.  He may or may not want to go with Pickett.  So there's even more risk with selecting Pickett given the coaching instability.

That risk doesn't exist for picking a starting LT, who every coach would want to keep.
