What do we know about Darnold?  He was good in college, has struggled for 3 years in NY.  Threw too many interceptions, but when you are one-dimensional, always playing from behind, passing is tougher. He will be 24, and he is on a first-round rookie contract for 1 more season.

So what would he do with a better coach, OL, running game, and defense?

    Better.

    Is better enough?

I looked it up and he threw 26 TDs and 13 INTs in 14 games in his last year at USC including 2 INTs in each of the first 3 games. For his career at USC he had 22 INTs in 27 games (24 starts).

  2. This comes as absolutely no surprise:

CAROLINA PANTHERS: ANYTHING AFTER THE SECOND ROUND

Marty Hurney wasn’t fired for his draft record, as he did fine in early rounds. It was Rounds 3-plus where they simply have struggled to find competency. Arguably the best one of the bunch has been Corn Elder, who earned a 68.5 grade this season on 411 snaps as a slot corner. If that’s your biggest mistake, though, it’s been a solid span of drafts.

  3. Also someone who wants Slater please explain to me how Walker Little who (from what I've seen) was ranked higher than Slater at this point last year and was considered a 1st round pick by most people and also sat out of 2020 has now slid to late 2nd/early 3rd. The knock on him is that for OT you really want to see consistency and sitting out a year will really hurt OT, yet somehow Slater does the same thing and goes from fringe 1st/2nd to a top 10 pick. Little does have some injury concerns so I get the slide but I dont get the meteoric rise of Slater.

Are you just saying you want Slater because McShay has him ranked as the 2nd best OT (Kiper has him classified as a G)? Or is there something else you actually like about him?

  4. If you watch the 4th quarter of the Ohio St game specifically he is not that impressive. He made some good blocks but almost just as many bad ones. He got beat inside on a swim move and the DE batted the pass down, got stood up at the LOS on a run play that went his way for negative yardage, got blocked into his own offensive lineman by a defender, has a DE run right around him and blowup a running play in the back field, pulled and completely whiffed on a block that lead to his guy blowing up the play in the backfield, had another DE run around him and get pressure on the QB. He looked much much better in the 1st 3 quarters but all of that happened in 1 quarter and in a game that all the analysts are pointing to as the reason why he is good.

I don’t love analytics . There’s a place for it but not the end all be all . And i call bs that thru two seasons he only looked off the primary 7 times . Better yet how do they even know who the primary receivers is if they don’t have the playbook ? And if all is true you can def fix this problem with a good coaching staff . Fields have something you can’t teach tho and that toughness and I’ll take that with his other flaws

They said only 2020. It could be that whoever he looked at first they considered the primary. They also note that it could be just that the WRs were so open he didnt need to go through progressions either. I have watched a handful of Ohio St games as a spectator and not to analyze them but he certainly passes the eye test.

They forcing this Zach Wilson kid a lil too hard . But poo on Fields over two bad games lol i don’t get it . But but but the Indiana game .

Not advocating for Wilson or this trade but just found this piece on Fields and thought it was interesting.

Those who love analytics will love this — or maybe they won’t. One team who has already broken down every pass thrown by Justin Fields in 2020 said in private conversations he looked off the primary target on just seven throws.  That’s under three percent of his passes.

    Haha if only this was realistic. I traded from 8 to 5 then 5 to 9 then 9 to 5 then 5 to 12 then 12 to 6. Then traded back into 8 then 8 to 19 then 19 to 13 then 13 to 18. some how turned our 8th pick in to 6, 18, 35, 48, a 1st in 2022 and 2 2nds in 2022. This GM stuff is easy!

I liked the article, but a quick peek at overthecap shows that cutting JJ Watt saves them $17.5M and cutting Brandon Cooks saves another $12M, with $0 dead cap for both.  That's $29.5 off the books. The article says that they're $23.5M over if they trade Watson. That's $6M left over to help sign the rookies they get. #8, #39, their 3rd and 2 4ths would go a long way towards keeping them competitive on the cheap.

Cutting David Johnson adds another $8M too

  9. They don't have us making a pick. Instead have us trade for Watson.

    Panthers get: Deshaun Watson
Texans get: No. 8 overall, 2021 second-round pick, 2022 first-round pick, 2022 fourth-round pick, CB Troy Pride Jr.

    Done and Done!

  10. CBS has a trading for Stafford. They don't say everything we give up other than a 2nd this year.

In this scenario, I am envisioning Carolina trades for Matthew Stafford. Detroit picks up a second round pick after parting with theirs in the trade up for Justin Fields. Kyle Pitts comes in to give that offense another mismatch.

It's actually a REALLY smart pick.

Matt Ryan will be 36 when the next season starts.  The contract has an out after 2021.  It doesn't get any clearer.  Take a rookie, let him learn behind Ryan.  If Ryan continues to play at a high level and it looks like a quick turnaround for them, they stick with him until 2023.  If not, they have their heir apparent from a great QB class sitting there.

Too many fans (and people in general for that matter) get confused between what they want to happen and what is actually realistic to expect.  For obvious reasons, all Panthers fans would like the Falcons and Lions to hold on to their picks and choose any player who is not a QB.  That's what we want.

The reality of the situation is that both of those teams need to replace an aging franchise QB.  The QB class this year is considered incredibly strong.  These teams have very high draft picks.  There will be a good prospect available.

The only way either team passes is if they dig up something on the players they have available when they are on the clock.  I would be VERY wary at pick eight if any of the top QB's are still on the board.  It could easily mean that someone found something that spooked them.

Just like everyone should have been wary of Aaron Rodgers falling...

  12. If thats how it plays out in front of us, I absolutely want to trade back.

I havent seen enough of Slater but from what I read he may have to move inside. If that is the case, #8 is too high for a guard/center.
