yes when cam has a full off-season, elite weapons, excellent oline, superior coaching, iron curtain defense, elite TEs, and refs who finally give him preferable calls, the planets align and he will finally redeem himself to elite status…we get it, we’ve heard it, it just isn’t reality in the NFL
This is a quote from Rhule in January - "..A lot of things have to align for a quarterback to play well.."
https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2022/01/16/panthers-hc-matt-rhule-doesnt-commit-sam-darnold-2022/
What do you think Gardner Minshew, Baker, Jimmy G, or a QB in this draft would need to succeed .. everything you listed is the answer because the reality of the situation is winning QB's play on damn good rosters and damn good offenses outside of themselves.
EDIT: Show me high level QB play and I'll show you a lot of things aligning .. high level skill position play, high level protection. Everything has to be on point for a QB to have great numbers.

I love Cam, but I'd prefer he retire.
When Cam starts playing like garbage behind a legitimate offensive line with formidable weapons and a full offseason, pre-season I'll come to this conclusion.
Just in '20 Cam looked as good as he ever has running the ball. Passing wise, not good, but he had no TE to speak of (Cam loves his TE's) and two UDFA's out wide .. no wonder why his passing stats were poor
Last season the weapons were pretty good, but the line was terrible .. the line was so poor vs. Miami it nearly broke PFF .. and Cam did have an MVP type performance vs. Washington but we still lost

Here's the main problem... he kinda sucks. We're sitting here asking ourselves if he can get back to that same baseline of suck. Yikes. I'd seriously rather just stick with Darnold. Throwing good money after bad I not the answer.
Would you rather have Jimmy G - Baker - Darnold - or Cam - starting week 1

Cam was never the same…
This fallacy will be disproved.

It has a lot to do with it when you're already on the hook to pay Darnold $19M.
Whether Jimmy G is a dollar or twenty something million, he isn't markedly better than Darnold, so we don't want him, was my point

They already have a LT in #4 overall pick Andrew Thomas

Jimmy G is $26M, Minshew is $2.5M and won't get booed out of the stadium
Money has nothing to do with it. If they feel Jimmy G is redundant to Darnold, you think they're going to say, but give me Minshew lmao - Cam would re-sign here before fool Minshew would be here

Gardner Minshew it is then
Can you read .. they don't think Jimmy G is an upgrade from Darnold .. Jimmy G is better than Minshew

Nobody is trading up.

Saying there are 2 QBs worthy of the sixth pick is smokescreen .. no QB in this sorry ass QB draft is worth six
-
I'm expecting to be elated at selecting Cross at six

There isn't one good reason to take a QB this year

I think it’s more of a big 2. I’ve seen Cross as low as in the 20s on some rankings. We have definitely improved our OL with our FAs alone. Throw in a stud young LT and we could have something.
Cross is actually better than Neal and Icky and will be the sixth pick

Cross's ceiling is lower than the other too but he seems like the most polished pass protector.
I think his ceiling is higher than the other two and is the best pass protector. Cross is great .. if he were on Bama he's the consensus best T in class.

It is a great day if any one of Neal, Cross, Icky are the sixth pick .. hopefully it is Cross, who I think is the best of the three

Jimmy G' s surgery.....

Brandin Cooks in '20 - an excellent, former first round WR - 81 catches, 1,150 YD , 6 TD
Will Fuller in '20 - an excellent, former first round WR - 53 catches, 879 yards, 8 TD
Laremy Tunsil in '20 - an excellent, former first round OT - started 14 games
You're going to give me Watson in '20 as an example of a QB playing great without many things aligning lmao a lot went right for Watson to have those numbers; like having a first round LT and two first round WR playing well.
