    You sure about that?

The truth is, we won't know the full picture until this pandemic starts to die down and after a long period of actual study. Could it end up being a higher mortality rate than MERS or SARS? Maybe. But one thing is clear, it is not trending in that direction.

One thing that helps is that this is not the first coronavirus outbreak in the past decade.

    MERS: @ 2,500 cases worldwide since 2012.

SARS: @ 8,400 cases worldwide at "end" of epidemic

COVID-19: @ 175,000 cases and counting so far

Yeah. Do you understand that no matter the mortality rate percentage that a smaller percentage of a poo ton more cases is a lot worse than a higher percentage of a relative handful of cases?

Sure, it may not look or feel terrible right now, but I can assure you that it has already illustrated it is more of a threat globally than the two you want to fall back on.

No. It will not be. We have seen two other coronavirus outbreaks in recent memory(SARS, MERS). In 3-4 years this will be a distant memory and we will be on to our new "pandemic" scare. These are going to be more frequent because the rate of global travel is so high. That's just the price of that luxury.

I already think it is way bigger than SARS or MERS ever was.

We could talk from the angles of actual threat or of its public reaction. But, either way, I think it has already surpassed either of those in a very short time frame.

  3. So I got to thinking the other day:

9/11 was pretty much "the event" of my lifetime so far. By that, I mean that everyone in my age group will always remember that day and where they were, etc. Also, the fallout from it was so significant that it changed the world as we know it.

I'll be 40 this year, and I'm wondering how long before and if the Coronavirus will become that level of an event.

Anyone think we're already there, or at least approaching it fast?

I know every one presents differently, but I just watched an interview with a guy who tested positive for it from that cruise ship Princess...  he said what was weird about it was he just developed a cough and fever.  He said no body aches, head aches, or sinus stuff.  His fever was 103° and broke in 8 hours, and he said he was drained afterwards but that's it.

I saw the same. He's still somewhat quarantined, though. But his wife didn't get it at all (yet.)
