  1. With the Hornets reeling as of late, we need a W to stop the bleeding in the worst way. Cue the dink and doink entrace music. Here come the Timberwolves. Not to mention that the Cavaliers play the Bucks, the Thunder play the Heat and Detroit and Boston play each other.

If the Cavs and thunder take care of business and the Pistons manage to get over on the Celtics - we just need to knock off the lowly Wolves to get back in the playoffs after a terrible road trip. Please let this happen oh great Basketball gods!

Kevorkian? Because this skid started with a loss to a Kings team that ended up sweeping us in games we had to have. And even if we win here, still have to go to Chicago and then face Brooklyn at home. There's a chance Brooklyn might actually be ahead of us at the end of that stretch.

  2. Don't laugh. RB value has never been lower and he is coming off major knee surgery.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is still around late in 2nd

RB value has never been lower? You could make the argument Murray resurrected the Cowboys and Lynch is the most important player in Seattle's offense. Heck, Jonathan Stewart got us to the playoffs.

Too many people have overreacted to Trent Richardson, and RBs haven't been drafted in the first in awhile because there haven't been any good RBs to draft. That's not the case by a long shot this season.

  3. I used to sleep with a girl who's cousin was roommates with Gurley's assistant weight training coaches daughter. She said Gurley didn't want to play for Carolina.

I don't know who to believe

    /sarcasm

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Todd pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

  4. Gurley is one of those picks that if the Panthers made in the first round the pundits would shake their heads but if he went to New England or Seattle or Baltimore in the first round it would get an A+.

Stewart isn't getting younger and has an injury history and we've seen how important the running game still is in the NFL. If his knee is alright he's a top 15 talent and the best RB in the draft. I'd be all for it, especially if he somehow fell to round 2.

  5. I don't think we can fill our biggest off season needs by bringing in Oher and Ginn. Oher has been under performing for 2 straight seasons and this is the same Ginn that had drop issues in Carolina, the same Ginn who got beat out by a rookie.

I mean Cecil Shorts just signed for 3 million a year, IMO he would be a better option than Ginn, same goes for Nate Washington who I doubt will be asking for a lot.

Again, look at the player being replaced. You're telling me Oher isn't an upgrade over Byron Bell? This is what DG does, taking underperforming players and giving them a place to succeed. He did it with Ginn and Mitchell. Why not Oher?

This is also the same Ginn that helped on special teams and who finally found a role in the offense that allowed him to make a big enough impact that he was able to parlay it into a nice contract with the Cardinals. Unfortunately for him, they drafted John Brown who excelled in what was supposed to be Ted Ginn's role, so they had no reason any longer to pay that kind of many to a return specialist.

With Ted Ginn you're getting a guy who knows the system and knows his role and will fit right back in from day one without an adjustment period. That year to year familiarity is something that Cam and the offense didn't have last year and it took half the season for everything to start clicking.

  6. Ted Ginn and Michael Oher cannot be trusted at this point to sufficiently fill our needs at their respective positions.  I will be shocked if we don't draft someone at each position to hedge our bets, so to speak.  Indeed, I believe that the primary purpose of signing Ginn was for special teams and to provide depth at wide receiver, not to be our answer for a speedy receiver (in terms of moving further into the playoffs).

Look at the incumbents at those positions and look at who we signed. Ginn/Oher are much better options than Bersin/Bell going forward. We can talk about playoff matchups when and if we get there, but right now this is a better team on paper than it was to end last season, The purpose of free agency was to have placeholders at those positions of need so we could have the luxury of drafting the best players available on our board without reaching for certain needs.

Given that the FA losses are minimal from the team that left the field in Seattle and given the players that are being replaced, on paper IMO we are a better team right now even if the signings aren't the splashy spending spree some might have expected. And this isn't counting the Draft and potential roster cuts elsewhere as we head into next season.

  7. Yep one move 4 years ago = active

Its also makes me wonder why we haven't been more active in the trading block, we got Greg Olsen by a trade why not try another trade?

Because the GMs that do things for the heck of it simply to win the offseason are the ones that fail in the long run which was the entire point of the article that you obviously didn't read.

The teams that are mentioned as SB contenders as a result of offseason moves can make those moves because they have needs at those positions. The Seahawks needed a dynamic red zone threat at receiver and an upgrade to Luke Willson. The Patriots needed a shutdown corner to upgrade their secondary for years which is why they could never get over the hump. They didn't just make those moves out of offseason boredom.

Those teams can make those moves because the opportunity to fill those needs came about and they managed their cap effectively enough to have space to complete those moves. What you and all the other "spend at all cost" folks are forgetting is that we are cap challenged because we spent at all costs, as KG has pointed out.^

The Panthers primary needs this offseason were speed at WR (Ted Ginn,) a tackle (Michael Oher,) and completely overhauling special teams (Teddy Williams, Ted Ginn, Kurt Coleman, Bruce DeHaven, etc.) If we had the space and the opportunity presented itself (as it did with Greg Olsen years ago) perhaps we would swing a trade or a big signing to combat any of those needs, but the money, etc. just isn't there right now thanks to the mistakes of a GM from which it will take years to recover.

  8. Griffin has the most inconsistent jumpshot in the league. He's worthless when not making highlights

Gobert is a fuging monster my man. He's DPOY by far. The guy is 7'2 with a ridiculous 7'9 or so wing span. He is the best rim protector in the league and can dunk on anyone. Give him a post game and he's the best center in the NBA.  The scary thing is he's only 22 years old. Gobert will be a monster. A defensive Yao Ming imo.

Blake Griffin has the most inconsistent jumper in the league? Man, MKG is so under the radar he can't even get props for the things he does poorly!

We will see what Gobert is all about tomorrow night. That said, defending a hobbled Al Jefferson and Bismack Biyombo shouldn't be that difficult.

  9. First Harden, and now Westbrook...

Here's your next #hotsportstake if the Thunder come up short again... "Kevin Durant holds players back from realizing their true potential, should the Thunder keep him?

We all did it for LeBron, but the narrative heel turn of Kevin Durant will be sad and hilarious only because it's so predictable...

  10. Just let him move on and accept that it's purely a financial decision.

I mean, we did...everybody pretty much knew once we saw Fozzy backing up Stewart and doing so effectively that his time here was done. Heck, even back to last season it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that with another Hurney purge on the horizon he was next in line.

If anything, DeAngelo instigated things by taking a shot at the organization that had paid him far beyond his worth for many years. It was low and completely unnecessary, and fans were and still are right to call him on it.

  11. Well, Grubbs was awful last year. He's really been underwhelming since signing his contract. He was going to be cut, so getting something for him was actually a positive.

Jimmy was a head scratcher. Apparently, Stills was offered first for Unger, and Jimmys name was brought up. Loomis said everyone would be evaluated, and held true to his word. Not necessarily that they're calling around shopping people, they're just making calls to improve the team, and there's only a couple guys on the roster who are untouchable. The crazy thing is, the move cost us money this year, so It really made it strange.

But to answer your question, obviously the cap is a consideration. But people are also looking at this as if the Saints were successful last year. The Saints sucked last year. This is a team trying to make improvements while also being cap strapped. The Jimmy move hurts, but they seem to have a plan. I'm not gonna say the two little words you're looking for though. ;)

It would be one thing if they got rid of the dead weight that dragged them to that record, but Jimmy Graham and other potential cap casualties are what kept them from having an even higher draft pick..

This is like our 2010 offseason when Richardson infamously started gutting the roster of a 7-9 team in preparation for the lockout. That team ended up going 2-14.

The one saving grace Loomis has is he's getting value for the outgoing players, but what does the draft record look like?

  12. If MKG good work on his passing, dribble, and shooting. He could be a superstar. He's probably 20 years old.

21 actually. And while he's not a superstar, he affects the game in such a positive way that I think it's safe to call him a franchise player and one that we should and will definitely hang on to and build around.

The problem is, as it has always been, that the roster doesn't fit together because while they are very athletic and can cause problems defensively, they still lack the skill needed on the offensive end to be anything more than a fringe East playoff team.

There were many instances tonight where you saw the Hornets take advantage of that athleticism by getting deflections and steals that led to runouts and easy baskets on the other end that got us back into the game. That frantic, swarming style of play would be ideal, but Al, Maxiell and the like just don't share that athleticism. With the potential cap flexibility next year, hopefully the front office continues with this direction now that the young prospects have grown up this season.

  13. It could be a rough game Friday night if were without Cody and Al. So, how good of shape is Maxiel in?

We played better against Cousins when Biz was in. We were able to defend the perimeter and get out and run once they tried to force it in to Boogie. If Biz and Al swap their minute distribution tonight the Hornets probably win this one.

Tonight was a classic case of the young core rising to the occasion only to have the pieces surrounding them let them down.

So take that for what it's worth.

  14. I'm tired of hoping for the playoffs when injuries and various other circumstances are pretty much screaming at us that it's just not in the cards. As important as McBob was, the fact that we were pretty much injury free during that stretch run was the key even moreso to sneaking in to the playoffs last year.

We have lance in a form that makes him tradeable and potentially 20 something million in space if al and henderson opt out. Just end this season and reconstruct the roster to build around young players making strides and try again next year. Maybe lottery luck smiles on us again

  15. F'n Chuck jinxed Mo.

Hey Chuck go slob on someone else like Brian Roberts, you're bad luck.

On that note how much nicer does that second unit look without Roberts? If only we didn't have to play Maxiell but those are the breaks of this team this season.
