What if they drafted a tackle and some team that wanted Thibodeaux offered us a deal to move up ahead of the Giants?

At that point they lose out on Thibodeaux because someone has traded up above them. Not worth the risk when there are three legitimate top five pick tackles available. Might as well guarantee Thibodeaux and pick one of the tackles left.

Besides, they got the tackle that makes the most sense for them. Neal has experience at right tackle and they can pair him with their existing left tackle. Ekwonu and Cross mostly played left tackle, with Ekwonu playing some left guard.

With 2 of the 3 top tackles still on the board, I think there was little chance we would trade down.  I think taking a QB or trading back was only an option if Neal and Ekowonu were both off the board.

These are the kinds of people I want playing for the teams I pull for. I know a lot of people can support players on their team even when that player is an obvious jerkhole. I can't. At most I can do a Smitty who has his ups and downs, but who you at least can see is trying to be the best version of himself. Sounds like we got a stud for the OL AND the kind of person who is easy to cheer for. Can't ask for much more than that.

He is my new favorite player on the team.

That’s part of the problem. You should only make trades if your a good team, not a bad team like us. It’s looking like the Jets and Jaguars are both going to get a very good pick from us. We’re not even playing CJ Henderson. We’re investing future picks to suck?

So, bad teams shouldn’t make trades to try and make the team better?  Dumbest logic I have ever heard.

alsi..if you are that old abs get physically angry because a team you cheer for isn’t winning, then you might need to find something more important or substantial in your life.  Life goes on the same Monday morning, whether a particular football team wins or not.

Actually its the fans that fund the organization, without the fans there would be no Carolina Panthers. How much money do you thing the organization makes with all the season ticket holders and constant sale out crowds, with all the vendors included? That's not including fans like me outside the Carolina's buying Panthers merchandise... so, I think it's totally appropriate to say we/us, if we are financially supporting the organization win or lose!

    BS.

People are the reason why movies are made..don’t hear audiences talking about them as WE.

bro i didnt bitch about the call that prob cost us against Tampa Bay. it happens. but the refs did not lose u this game.  your defense was off  just not your day but hope to see you again in the playoffs

Love watching loser fans use words like US and WE when talking about a sports team.  Newsflash…there was no WE.  You had nothing to do with the outcome and watching your favorite team win does not change the fact that you are still an underachieving loser come Monday morning.

We have nobody serviceable to put in place of horn.

We are going to have to stop letting QBs escape our grasp like we have been if we are to have any hope at stopping the pass with our current DBs.

Keep letting people escape our grasp? What are you even talking about?  We are leading the league in sacks.

He had a big contract but a 2nd round pick really isn’t good value for a player of his caliber. Glad he’s out of the division.

A second is good value for a player of his share coming off injuries.

Was a late night for sure.

But, again, while we're all talking about the Canes not playing their game and allowing Nashville to dictate the pace, etc., I'm gonna continue throwing sh!t at the refs, which have been horrible the entire series. A non-stop list of missed and bad calls that change the pace of the game away from Carolina every time they get something going.

How do you win a game 4-2 in OT? From a complete bullsh!t call that took away the tying goal. That didn't work, so call a terrible holding penalty on Foegele in OT might have helped Nashville. Too many men on the ice twice in the 3rd period by Nashville not called. Martinook tripped right in front of the net, not called. High stick to Aho's head in the middle of the ice was completely ignored. And that's just the 3rd period!

Fug 'em. Goalie interference, my ass. But the first Trenin goal was from a high stick up around his shoulders, so unless he's only 4 feet tall, there's no way that stick was below the cross bar. Hell, it finished above his head.

Oh, and let's not forget today Dougie question: When the fug is he gonna use his size to impose his will on players who want to take shots at his team mates? How come we never see him in the scrum?

That goalie interference call was total BS.  He was interfered with by a member of the Preds.

Or does this just make it easier to evaluate those who come from a 'pro' system? Just because they didn't do it in college, doesn't mean they can't. Yes, they may have an advantage getting acclimated but it ultimately comes down to the player's ability.

Fields is a little different in my opinion because the 3 qb’s before him all looked like heisman finalists in that system and flamed out atrociously in the nfl.

I've seen a lot of talk in a number of threads about how "QB's from ________ college" never succeed in the NFL.  I thought the argument was misguided, but I didn't have any data to back it up.  Here we go.

I looked at NFL QB's who had AT LEAST 60 wins in the league as being "successful".  I put that list in the quote so the post wasn't super hard to read.  Some thoughts after the quote.  I apologize for the formatting, it's a little ugly at times, but the columns are . . . Name, Wins, Losses, Ties, Win % and College.

When talking about successful NFL QB's, only 18 schools have ever produced more than one.

What I've learned is that arguing that a college has never produced a successful NFL QB is a fools game.  They can come from anywhere.

Terry Bradshaw from Louisiana Tech won 68% of his games and four Super Bowls.

Roger Staubach from Navy won 75% of his games and two Super Bowls.  As an aside, had he not been a Navy officer, Staubach might have been in the running as one of the greatest to ever play, but losing five years of his career was just brutal.

Peyton Manning from Tennessee won 70% of his games and has two rings . . . had he not been in the same generation as Brady, he would absolutely have won more rings.

Augustana College, Southern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, TCU and Youngstown State have produced more successful NFL QB's than "big" schools like UNC, Nebraska, Florida, Minnesota or Rutgers.

There is just no rhyme or reason to where a successful NFL QB comes from, or where one COULD come from.  This is why drafting a QB is such a crapshoot.  There is just no accounting for it.  There is something in the makeup of a successful QB that defies understanding.

Justin Fields or Trey Lance could easily succeed . . . or fail.  But it won't be due to where they went to school.  Likewise Davis Mills, Ian Book and Mac Jones can all easily fail . . . or succeed . . . despite the fact they are coming from schools with a history of producing multiple, successful NFL QB's.

College makes no difference at all.

Not entirely true.  The system that a QB plays in at college absolutely has an impact in whether they are likely to succeed.

i am nervous about Fields because of the QB friendly system that he played in at OSU..which limits the ability to evaluate on the things it didn’t ask him to do.  Jones, Pryor, and Haskins (the 3 qb’s right before him at OSU) all looked like heisman caliber qb’s in that system...and all have been complete and utter failures in the NFL.

Does that mean Fields will be a bust?  Absolutely not.  But, it dies make evaluating and projecting him in an nfl system more difficult...and causes teams to question it.

There prob isn’t enough independent evidence to prosecute.

Houston PD has looked at this and it sounds like they don’t have what they need to arrest Watson.

Pretty common in cases like this.

No real opinion on whether us is guilty or not.  But, I am skeptical in cases like this where the lawyer leading it is known as a scumbag and all accusations are just civil lawsuits with payouts.

What are the underlying reasons for his "lack of consistency"...??

By definition "lack of consistency" dovetails with poor decision making...

    ...the root cause?

Cleary athletic ability is abundant, so is it lack of intellect?

    Something else?

Zero weapons around him...incompetent front office and coaching staff....in short The Jets.  Their franchise has been a train wreck in every aspect for decades.

I want my team to win it all, and I hope Sam proves me wrong by doing so. But I've been against Sam his whole career, I had him for his rookie year in a fantasy league. I hope PJ passes him on the depth chart. While I think about that, would PJ get the same support had Rhule decided not to trade for Sam, and stuck with PJ as the starter???

So when PJ is the starter bc Sam sucks, and we start winning again, only then will I take full credit for being right.

I believe you wrong to think Sam is a bust because of his environment, I believe he's a bust because Sam himself sucks.

Zero chance PJ ever is anything more than a 2nd or 3rd string qb.

I agree about Lawrence, but we don't know if Wilson was in that equation. And though some might want to argue, Lance could have easily been in that equation as well (or not). The only thing we know for sure is that Jones and Fields didn't make the cut.

I agree.  I had just heard that we really like Wilson but did not like the other 3 better than Darnold.

they used too many words to say something simple.

Drafting a player that turns into the best RB or DB in the entire NFL....doesn't actually mean anything in today's NFL.  That isn't how you go about winning in today's NFL.   Those are complimentary pieces to your QB driven team.

The key to real and lasting NFL success is finding a QB.   Nothing really matters until you find one.  Can you win without one? Maybe.  But it generally is a one year fluke and you are right back to not mattering.

I agree with you that you can’t win without a good qb.  However, the staff believe Darnold (top 3 pick) is as good as the other qb’s not named Lawrence and Wilson in this draft.

Doesn’t really dispute anything I wrote. We are celebrating a practice pass with no defenders here where the receiver slowed down at the end.

People are just happy to see a qb who can throw downfield....in-line teddy who was a check down machine
