  1. Accepting that premise, do you really believe either of those two reasons would serve as justification for just letting Newton walk?

Nope ... would never just let him walk.  They shouldn't have done that with Peppers either.  For whatever reason, if his future is not Carolina, trade and get picks / players.  Of course, the only team that will accept a trade is one that has reassurance from his agent that a long term deal will get done.

This scenario probably wont happen but ..... I see Cam as somebody that may enjoy a big market AND Gett as the type of GM that might just say no ... if Cam wants the whole bank.  Good thing is ... we will know soon enough.

  2. I swear half this board does not know what a Franchise Tag is.

Teams don't want a QB under a franchise tag for 2 reasons ...  1) you don't want a QB at the helm of your offense if he is disgruntled or doesn't want to be there (not saying that is the case for Cam)  2)  franchise tags for QBs are BIG $$ and a BIG cap hit for the current year.

There's no reason they can't get a deal done before the current contract expires ... unless there is a gap that neither side is willing to fill (ie. money).  Cam may want the whole bank and Gett is not willing.  If that's the case, it wouldn't make sense to tag him unless it is a tag & trade.

  3. The 'homerism' is back just like it was last year when everybody was on board with Bell & Chandler, including threads like these.  Remmers wouldn't have been on the team nor seen the field unless it was for injuries.

Thus far, Gett has shown the ability to evaluate college talent and make decent draft picks.  That's what he did for the Giants.  He hasn't shown the ability to give his coach a competitive roster and adequately address weaknesses, while building through the draft.  Yes, we were limited due to the cap situation and he has only been here a short time ... everybody knows that.  However, Bell and Chandler .... really?  I think he truly believed it and that would have been his answer, even if he had the money.  He also passed on late round OTs that would have been upgrades to the current roster.

Truth is that there wasn't much available in free agency this year to upgrade our OT situation with capable starters ... much less studs.  The best of the group stayed with their former teams, as expected.  We dropped a guy at the bottom and picked up one close to the bottom, with a glimmer of hope that a previous relationship with our position coach will make him adequate again.  For me ... the question is does Gett really believe that Oher IS the answer or is he creating competition.  Also, nothing has been done yet to address our #2 or #3 CB (depending on where you slot Bene), WR or safety positions.  However, it is still early.

Until we know how the rest unfolds ... he doesn't get the keys to the house.  He has an obvious talent for assessing college talent but is he cerebral enough to be a good GM.?.  Jury is still out.

  4. Big upgrade at a position of need.  Glad he is back.  Hopefully, Shula gets him more involved in the offense too.  I like the possibilities he brings to the running game.  Would much rather see Ginn on the end around vs. Cotchery.

Mostly looking forward to not having that 'sinking feeling' every time our punt return team takes the field.

  5. Scoreboard.

Holding the Pats and Tom Brady to 20 points on MNF is a good defensive effort.

You are trying to hard to be pessimistic.

Agree, but not according to the standards that this D has set.  Good effort but too many missed tackles.  White needs to come back after a shaky performance too.

Everything considered, 20 points and a W against Brady and the best coaching staff is Ok with me.  The Pats lack a lot of the big names and experience they used to have but are doing an impressive job.

  6. Consistent with the hype this game is getting, it is big.  It is a real test of whether we are a capable mediocre team that beats up on the junk or dare I say, one of the elite.  Seattle wasn't a real test b/c they were missing starters and we hadn't gotten our MOJO yet.  The offense didn't start clicking until a few games later.

    Keys to the game (IMO)...

    1.  Cam - which one shows up today ... accurate and efficient OR the other.  Rivera seems to think Cam gets a little 'pumped' for the big games, which results in a little too much on the ball.  Billick says the overthrows are flat.  Shula needs to get Cam involved early.   Incorporate a couple planned runs for him in the first drive so he gets dirty and can settle down.

    2.  Boldin & Davis -- Yikes.  We struggled with Gonzo last week.  Today, we have another Gonzo with more speed,  and Boldin.  Can we create enough pressure to give our DBs and LBs a chance.  This is huge.

    3.  WRs -  dropped passes kill drives.  None of them can have a bad day.

  7. Cam just doesn't have what it takes. He has a mess around him yes, but man.... he doesn't have it He's close but just.... You really think we can win a super bowl with this guy?

I look at that guy in Indy and already know he's got super bowl in his future. With Cam I can't believe it.

Cam has what it takes around him.  It (including Cam) is not being utilized effectively.

Yes, we can win a Superbowl with this guy.  I doubt we can win it with this staff.

  8. after watching Manning and Romo go at it yesterday, it obvious to me that Cam will always be a gimmick qb.  He is not a pro style qb and will never be accurate on deep passes.  I dont think Cam can get us to the Super Bowl.  Its not his fault, hes doing what he is capable of doing.

Cam doesn't need to be a Manning or Romo, he just needs to put points on the board.  Problem is that our coaches are trying to make Cam be like Romo and Manning.  That will never work.  He can take us to a Superbowl but they need to create gameplans that leverage his strengths.  We have the pieces.

  9. No BOOBS?

He is still pouting about his favorite Topcat leaving.

seriously, great pics.  This win felt like a cleansing from the last Giants game and start of this season.  I hope it continues.

Way too many Giants fans though.  We need a better showing for MNF against the Pats.  They travel well too.
