  1. Going over Boykin's stats,

One thing that caught my eye is that last year he had 4 tackles and 4 forced fumbles. He must be a hell of a special teams player.

Beamer coaches them well on ST. That's what I tried to bring up way at the beginning. He can replace a player like Bersin and Cotch production wise while also being able to play (and be good at it) on ST.

  2. I was saying 5 mil as the highest possible salary... I doubt he gets that, I think 3 mil per sounds fair.

But the point remains... It's not about any one thing here, PB. It's all of the factors combined. Boykin is slow, we need speed. Boykin is a guy that will be available late in the FA game, and we have him set up for a visit on the first day. Gettleman said we would address WR through FA so that were not drafting based on need, now Voth is reporting that we're basically done with WR in FA.

That is why this is so frustrating.

    Same poo, different year.

I understand what your saying and I know people hold Voth in high regard but I can't imagine the team not adding any more talent or competition at WR. Its the first day, we had already signed (technically) 4 players before today. Dave seems to have a plan and knows what he wants. At this point I have to kinda go with it. It has gotten excitement from the fan base we've never seen since early 2000's and back to back playoff births.

Just an example but the Patriots signed one guy today. One. Some WR I've never heard of from Miami. Yet they might lose out on their best CB.

Eddie Royal or a player like him isn't the answer. People complained about Boykin's year's, Eddie hasnt out produced his rookie year since entering the leauge in 2008 and averages 500 yards a year, that's what we got out of Cotch. Id rather us find players who fit what we are aiming for than force a round peg in a square hole. I can't imagine us really breaking the bank on a FA WR unless we are one piece from a super bowl. Right now Oline is a bigger need

  3. Can you clarify the first paragraph?

Are you saying it validates them in some way? To be clear, I was saying the receivers were the worst in the league, therefore, Cam had nothing to throw to.

And it's fine to be frugal, but there's a difference between being frugal and just being dumb. Like I pointed out earlier, Eddie Royal isn't going to cost more than 5 per, I'm guessing... Gentleman is the one that said you address areas of need in FA and then you fill the holes with the draft. He also said we need speed and would address that. And here we are, one day in, and Voth, who has been as accurate as any reporter out there, is saying we're essentially done with receiver.

That's why people are pissed. WR has been neglected since we drafted Steve Smith... I don't count colbert or Jarrett because they were second round pick with a lot of question marks... The point being, we should've either signed a bookend or used our first round pick on a tremendously talented guy instead, but we never did, and I doubt we change that this year.

5 mill a year for Eddie Royal is way to much and I'm a Hokie Homer. We need an upgrade at WR. It clear and has been clear since we had Moose and Smith play together. What if we draft a WR in round 1 or 2? People on here will celebrate and call it a victory but yet cam still has the same quality of protection last year. Its day one of FA. We didnt sign anyone on day one last year, and honestly I can't remember the last time, even when Hurney was here with Cap space we signed a big splash at WR. Keyshawn is the last one and that was a one year rental with my last memory of him was taking a flea flicker and throwing a INT in the end zone against the cow boys.

Name someone the last 3-4 years that was a day one FA WR that got paid big money and has earned it and the team hasnt had buyers remorse. I bet we aren't done with WR unless the team is really high on Corey Brown and KB.

Last year at this time we didn't even know who Norwell or Brown was yet we found them brought them in and expect them to contribute day one this year. That's a sign of a team that is building something.

  4. Then we better draft one.. Gettlemen said he was going to give Cam more weapons this off-season instead of leaving him high and dry like last season. . We will see what he does. .

I'm okay with drafting a player but we have two big and paid receiving threats (KB and Olsen) a good RB in Stew, a potential change of pace back in Fizzy, a average 2nd TE, a good FB/RB in Tolbert. What more can we give him? What we need is our talent to develop on the line (Turner and Norwell) and get a decent to good Tackle.
  5. PB... WE NEED SPEED. WE NEED A GUY THAT COULD COME IN AND HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO DO JUST THAT - 1,000 YARDS AND 10 TDS.

WE ALREADY HAVE A WR CORPS FULL OF BOYKINS. HE IS REDUNDANT.

PEOPLE ARE REACTING SO STRONGLY FOR THAT REASON, AND THAT HE MOST LIKELY IS NOT ON ANYONE ELSE'S RADAR RIGHT NOW, AND YET, WE'RE BRINGING HIM IN ON THE FIRST DAY OF FA. LOL. THAT IS LAUGHABLE.

NO ONE WAS EXPECTING US TO PULL OFF A TRADE FOR CALVIN JOHNSON, BUT WHEN THERE ARE GUYS LIKE MOORE, BRITT, STEVIE, ETC. OUT THERE, WE SHOULD BE HEARING REPORTS OF INTEREST IN THEM, NOT THIS GUY. HE WILL BE THERE IN MAY.

PDiddy this is one of those things that I will just disagrre with you on in this thread. We lost out on Cobb and Smith who average $8-$10 mill a year. We have a 1,000 yard receiver in KB and Olsen. We just made Olsen one of our highest paid weapons on the team. They view him probably as our second option like it or not. How many teams have 2-3 1,000 receivers on a team. Boykin hasn't even signed yet but we have a 20+ page thread of people freaking out about a guy we showed interest in.

Sure he is the same mold of Cotch, but he is much younger, he is more skilled than Bersin and would be an upgrade of our 4th WR maybe even 3rd. You'd rather keep Webb/Bersin/Hill/Mucas than this guy? Its an upgrade. If you upgrade a position at any level its always a plus. People we splooging in their pants for Stephen Hill last year and teams didnt even make a claim off of our practice squad for him yet Boykin stayed on a roster in GB that is deep at WR. That to me speaks volumes compared to the depth we have.

We wont sign another big name WR in FA as long as we have Olsen on our roster

  6. Well you keep that mindstate and see how much it helps...

People keep clowning the Niners and Colts for surrounding their qbs with talent, saying, "well look how well it worked for them."

Yeah, let's do. How many championship games have we played in the last three years? How many have they?

    Exactly.

The reason our ass got booted out of the playoffs the last two seasons was because they signed and drafted offensive talent, while we signed and drafted "young hungry guys who are eager to start," who usually lacked talent.

The reason we lost to San Francisco and Seattle was because we had no offense. There was no one to spread the field. We have no speed or separation. They did.

Young, hungry guys that come dirt cheap may pan out for you 1 out of 100 times, but 99 times their dropping passes and muffing punts.

The Colts and 49ers have as many super bowl wins as we have had since we have drafted Cam. The colts keep throwing poo against the wall for offense to see if it sticks, yet can't get past having an awful defense. The 49ers have literally imploded this year. They have a HC who played in Salisbury NC, have thrown multiple draft picks at WR (who aren't there any more) and lost three RB's this past year they have drafted (Gore, and the kid from SC and Oregon). Let's watch their sustained success the next few years

  7. Jesus everyone..

Its a visit and I would like to have him here, but I'm not selling or saying hes going to be our #2 and save the franchise but damn y'all are acting like he's straight garbage.

For those saying 2013 was a fluke and its because of the system. Would that have stopped you for getting excited for Cobb this year? How about when people on here wanted Greg Jennings a few years ago?

I'm for one excited to bring in young players that are hungry to earn a starting spot. Low risk high reward. Worse case we cut him during preseason; if we sign him would it stop us signing someone else? Probably not. He came from VT which is known for special teams. Everyone on here complained and bitched about talent and people blocking on that side of the ball. Guess what he can do.

"Boykin had almost 700 yards two years ago, he's one step away from being all-univerzze!"

    ...

"oh yaaah, I would love to sign cotchery! Dude had 10 tds last year herp derp! "

Notice the complete absence of the role, system played in, and immensely better talent around those players with their prior team being mentioned.

Notice what I said earlier. He isn't going to come in (although that would be nice) and light up and have 1,000+ yards and 10+ TDs and the triple crown. IF we sign him, he would be good depth in ST that can do both sides, block well in the WR role (which KB, Brown, and Bersin all suck ass at doing at a consistent level) he can play the slot and be a red zone target if need be. He would be an upgrade easily of Cotch and Bersin (both of which probably would get paid more combined than he would by himself) for the same role.

  8. Aaron Rodgers and McCarthy's offense would make Bersin look like fuging Steve Largent, so no it doesn't. Wear your rose colored glasses if you want, the guy sucks.

Hey keary colbert was a beast too, wasn't he?

Please if you really think that Bersin would be that amazing in that system the hate for our team is just oozing from your vains

  10. Boykin, Bersin, and Presley should not even crack an active roster and are borderline NFL players. And you left out Philly Brown, who really shouldn't even be anymore than a situational slot or 4th WR.

That is not acceptable. I really wish we would quit disrespecting our QB with this kind of crap.

The fact that Boykin had almost 700 yards in starting only 8 games in 2013 discredits that entire post.

  11. Maybe its the Hokie Homer in me, but people who are joking and poking fun at his 40 time saying he js a slow version of Cotch havent watched him play.

When used in GB he was productive, he is the all time leading receiver at Virginia Tech in both receptions and yards beating out players such as Antonio Freeman, Andre Davis, Eddie Royal, Josh Morgan. The kid can play and can run block which is important and has always been important in our offense. I can see him playing the slot position very well for us. If I remember everyone's favorite WR coach didn't run a fast 40 and played 17 years in leauge

  12. I'm still scratching my head at how someone wold want cecil shorts over Brian hartline.

Hartline ran a 4.48 at his pro day and he's slow. Britt ran a 4.47 and he's fast.

Some people refuse to change their opinion given new information.

No one will admit it but the stereotype of white receivers are they are slow possession sometimes "scrappy" guys who can catch the ball.

  13. Richardson and Gettledouche are like corporate America, they want a fuging copy of the death certificate to prove why you are taking time off and don't give a poo about anyone but themselves, unless they can write it off somewhere on a tax form or make money off it.

His teammates are his co-workers. No matter how shitty your employ is, under normal circumstances, the people you work with every day will do something whenever you have a death in the immediate family. How did they react when his mother died? Who knows.

Whats it like working for the panthers? I didnt know their policies were so harsh. Hell I work for "corporate America" and I didnt have to do hardly anything when my mother passed.

Jeremy said it best earlier. This might be a situation where Deangelo needs to look himself in the mirror and ask why they didnt come. Also I stated earlier 48 hour notice is what I gave friends and family for my mothers funeral. I had family that couldn't make it but made Damn sure they contacted me and my family. There is more to this than we will ever know

  14. For those who haven't had to bury their parent(s). My mom passed on a Wednesday. And we had the funeral on Sunday. We literally had 48 hours after passing to notify CMC where to bring my mother.

If its the off-season and players and owners arent around. It might be hard to get on a plane and be at a funeral within 48 hours of being notified of where and when.

I haven't watched the interview and I honestly don't really care to. You shouldn't expect an employer to really do much now a days. The panther organization has 60+ players, a coaching staff and then staff in the office and stadium. I bet you that none of them expect Jerry Richardson to come to a funeral.

Deangelo should in a way feel good and feel lucky in a way that he is in a situation where he could take care of his mother financially. If not he could switch with me and bury his mom at 25 and with no life insurance and have the burden of taking over that.

  15. Word from inside the Niners locker room was that his act was wearing thin on a lot of guys. Many people point to the diminishing returns this season as part of that.

The whole "constantly yelling and screaming" thing is something that can work pretty well on a group of kids who'll be playing under you for generally four years at most.

On a group of paid professional adults with the means to seek out other opportunities, not so much.

They also had 40 draft picks in 4 years and basically got maybe 4-5 starters?

Not much of a return on investment

  16. Not much would make me happier than to see the 49ers go back to how they were before Harbaugh got there. They don't have much legit talent that's been brought in since Harbaugh got there, not much improvement to the actual roster. That rookie LB that was supposed to be good, I think Aldon Smith got there after Harbaugh. Not much else. So I could definitely see them going back to what they were before him.

Which would be evidence to see why Harbaugh was probably wearing his visit out. He inherited alot of talent and did very little in adding talent. Now they aren't on rookie contracts, aged, and not on the upside. He was in win now mode and didnt build for the future
