Kaye’s Take: In the rush to blame one or the other, I think the missing thought for most is that maybe it’s BOTH Dave Canales and Bryce Young who aren’t performing consistently well as a tandem partnership together. When it’s great (ATL/DAL), it’s great, but it’s rarely great. Typically, it’s bad (SF/NE/NO) or fine (MIA/NYJ/ATL WK3). If you’re management or ownership, I’m not sure how you can watch these first 12 games and say this is a sustainable workflow. Sure, they’ll probably go and have another big one in the next five games but that’s a 20% firework, not a rocket ship. The #Panthers are a 6-6 slinky of a team because consistency can’t be forged when chemistry is fleeting and fledging. One way or another, there needs to be changes to offensive infrastructure (fwiw that’s life in an NFL offseason anyway). Even if a playoff run happens, the whole point of this slower, thoughtful process (which does have merit) is to not overachieve, accept, and then sink. The team has done a lot of things well behind the scenes and they have generally improved in a lot of areas on the field (defense - talent and coaching, development, rookie class, etc), but you can’t just put your head in the sand.

DE Josh Sweat Sweat, 27, is coming o an eight-sack season in his seventh year with the Eagles. Philadelphia has several notable players to re-sign (including All-Pro linebacker Zach Baun), and Sweat might hit the free-agent market solely due to a lack of cap resources. During his career, Sweat has produced 43 sacks, with the entirety being collected after his forgettable rookie campaign. Sweat was selected to the 2021 Pro Bowl and followed up that honor with an 11-sack season in 2022. The Panthers could use Sweat as a full-time starter opposite D.J. Wonnum and Jadeveon Clowney on the edge. The Chesapeake, Virginia, native grew up a big Clowney fan, and with his hometown not too far away, perhaps he’d be enticed to join a Panthers team that badly needs pass rusher help DT Milton Williams The Panthers badly need help in their front seven, and Williams can play nearly every position in that grouping. Williams, a versatile interior pass rusher, has established himself as a key contributor for the top defense left in the playos. The 2021 third-round pick is used in a powerful rotation that also features Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter and Charlotte native Jordan Davis.
