  1. I’m optimistic that the coaches will work well together, one small concern is the idea of “too many cooks in the kitchen”. You have several assistants with years of head coaching experience and guys who have interviewed for HC positions the last couple of years. If things go sideways, will Reich be able to keep those egos in line? I think he will be; Caldwell for example goes back with Reich.

No fluff? If all the questions about his QB days and former teammates wasn't fluff, what would he call it?

I imagine he means fluff from the coach, ie all that “brand” poo Matt Rhule talked about.

The HC can’t help if reporters ask him fluff questions.

  3. In the NFL a combo of good offensive line and good play calling are probably the most important ingredients for success. Even an average QB can look good behind a great line and good scheme.

Panthers have the line, weapons on offense and hopefully now an offensive mind that will know what to do with it. All aboard the Anthony Richardson train?

Having said all that, I'm skeptical of any coach that chooses to punt, rather than to attempt a first down, (twice) when the ball is near midfield with one yard to go.  This is especially true when the game, season and the coach's future job prospects are all on the line.  An ultra conservative approach, especially when Tom Brady is your opponent, isn't a game winning formula (shades of SB Atlanta Falcons).  Being risk adverse in critical moments (that often shift game momentum) simply doesn't bode well for the team's future playoff prospects.

Bottom line:  Hard pass on any coach that makes Ron Rivera look like a riverboat gambler.

This. I was all for Wilks until this game. In the game of the season with everything on the line, he choked. I would rather fail with an unproven offensive minded coach than endure the mediocrity that comes with that conservative style of coaching.

I wasn't aware we had a vote on who the Panthers next head coach will be. When did this happen?

Seriously though, we have no say in it so let it play out. My bet is that the list lining up to take the job will not be long and it will be comically underwhelming.

I mean, we have no say in anything at all regarding this or any other sports team, so why talk about them at all?

  6. It seems Steve Wilks has all the qualities of an at least competent NFL HC. His influence in the way the team has played since Rhule’s firing speaks for itself. That said, speculation is Tepper wants an offensive minded head coach, something the Panthers have never had. I tend to agree this is the right approach, as today’s NFL is geared towards scoring.

My main concern with keeping a defensive head coach is even if he’s highly successful, a carousel at the offensive coordinator job will be inevitable, and the offense will have to undergo major changes as OC’s come and go.

Is this a dumb way to look at it?
