I can't imagine he doesn't want to job. It should be pretty easy, straight forward work. It's easy enough to tell somebody you're booked out for the next three months if you don't want the job or if you're a one man crew just tell them thanks but no thanks that it's more work than you want to take on by yourself. You're not going to go through the effort of writing up a detailed quote if you don't want the job. That takes considerable time and time is money in this game.

At the end of the day, I don't know the local market. Could be that everyone is booked up and you can pretty much name your price and tell people to take it or leave it because there's plenty of work available. Honestly, it's largely still like that right now in WNC. If someone tells you they can get started right away you don't want them. There's plenty of work for people who are in demand.

Let me rephrase that.  He doesn't want the job for how little it will pay, but is willing to take it if you double or triple his hourly rate.

I'm in the biz, and while I don't do this type of work, I deal with LOTS of Subs, my father was an electrician, and my grandfather a framer/builder.

That was my Dad's phrase.  If someone called on a Saturday to go change out a ceiling fan, he would absolutely do it.  Cash, triple the going rate per hour.

    This kinda reminds of that.

Likely Tuttle m since he was already considered an option (or Brown) there. We have a number of  other experienced 3-4 DE to take their place

I'm just saying that if we are going to go to 34, and I'm very excited about that, I want another true 0....maybe Tuttle can do that, we will see.

A Jamal Williams kinda guy would make me swoon.  NT is VERY important in the 34.

  3. He doesn't want the job.

Also, don't use "buddies" for things like this.

Go to a local job site where there is a lot of framing going on, observe, then make a job offer based on hourly.  You buy the materials, they provide the labor.

Or, you do it.  It's not as hard as you are likely thinking it is.

    Interesting! Why’s that?

Round trip for me is 4 hours, so that pretty much means I'm going to go up Saturday night, and stay Sunday night.  So two nights in a hotel, or at my buddies house.  Plus travel time, plus I really don't want to go to Charlotte for any reason, and I certainly am not going up there during the warm months and get away from the boat/water here.

So, I prefer to go to a city I've never been to and make it a mini vacation vs. going to Charlotte and spending almost the same amount of money only to putz around a city Ive been to more than I'd like.

Tampa in November is a little better than Wilmington in November.  Wilmington in September, October, November, or December is better than Charlotte.

Yea that's the same everywhere but sometimes flip flopped since you'd think Summer is the busy time anywhere, but Austin definitely not. I tend to think we might benefit from waiting because we could get a better deal on a house in Wilmington if we waited. A similar house in the same neighborhood for the house we have under contract sold for $75k less in December 2022. But it's tough to gauge the market like that, we still bought at a reasonable price in a really desirable area with low volume. It's going to be a really tough decision.

Let me know if you need some pointers about the ILM market, been in it for 20 years.  Don't do general real estate, meaning I don't tote buyers around and I don't list homes, but very much in the business.

The OL was already beasting with the lineup coming back from last year once whole again from the injuries - but the opportunity of developing Cade Mays and Zavala(sp?) In the meantime while our other guys heal?  The OL went from complete ass to possibly the strongest unit we've ever had in roughly 2 years time?

Speaking of Zavala, I didn't realize he went down with a hammy?

It’s a lot nicer to mow the lawn or go for a walk and check the score routinely than be a die hard fan. I can never break away from my fandom but I’ve learned to have balance.

No doubt about it.  There was a time where I was watching tons and tons of NFL games, pretty much watched every game, every week, all season.  I was a big Panthers fan, but also just a fan of the NFL.

Now?  Don't have the time, nor desire to sit through 15-20 hours of NFL per week.  I'll try to watch the Panthers, but if it looks fishy out there, and it ain't raining, from now on I'll likely be fishing and trying to catch up when I get home.

I've always been fortunate that I never had either.  I could see concussions also being something somebody is always thinking about once they've had a bad one or more than one.

Friend of mine was an NCAA basketball referee for a long time.  His career on the court ended with an Achilles.

I probably had 4 or 5, with one being really bad.

Let me just tell ya, crossing routes, and punt and kickoff returns were never the same.

  9. Let the culinary pendulum swing the other way gentlemen.

A LOT of our parents grew up on TV dinners, pre-prepared garbage with little flavor and less nutrients.

They simply don't know how to cook, how to eat good food, and most don't care to change, but you guys can.

You guys should see what some chefs do after a customer orders their steak well done.

  10. First season for me that I'll support the Panthers with my money in some time.

    Very long time.

I'm hoping to spend more time watching them this year, I honestly missed more games/quarters on TV over the past 3 seasons than in the previous 15 years prior combined.

It can if they've already shown some actual quarterbacking ability and at least a collegiate level of brain power, but this idea that you can just take a raw athlete and train him to have pro level quarterbacking skills (accuracy, especially) is bound to fail way more often than it works.

I always liked Parcell's vision of what he wanted from a college QB, need to look it up, but I think it was something like, start 30 games, win 20, pass for 60%, etc, etc, etc...

I'll see if I can find it, but typically the guys that do what he said he wanted seemed to have a good chance at long term success, at least in the 80's, 90's and 2000's.

    It's never been the injuries.

The whispers that he hasn't been able to pick up the offense have been around forever. And despite denials from the 49ers, they haven't gone away. If anything, they've gotten louder.

I've said before that Lance is an example of why the whole "take the athlete and coach him to be a quarterback" approach isn't a safe practice. In this case, it looks like it's turning out to be a massive error.

Yup.  I think in years past, that could, and would work, but not in todays NFL.

In all fairness the Manning led Colts had to deal with Tom Brady and the Pats during his tenure.  Imagine having one of the greatest QBs of all time only to watch him have to play the greatest QB of all time in the AFC playoffs every year.

    Wasn't just that either.

That era in the AFC was absolutely gnarly.  You had prime Manning 1, Brady, Roethlisberger, and Rivers, along with the always good Ravens, and amazing Steelers defenses.

How do you get opportunity when you can't stay healthy?

This seems like a kid who just can't stay healthy. Kind of hard to prove yourself when you in rehab most of the time.

He may indeed just suck like you said. I just want to see him on the field before I actually write him off.

    You ever play?

You have to be able to beat the guy in front of you in practice, before you get to play in the games.  You may need to see him "prove" it on the field, but the coaches don't.

100%. My home was 630k here for 2000 square feet, .20 acre. I’m eyeballing a 320k house in Savannah 500 more square feet but over 1.5 acres of a well maintained wooded lot.

Wilmington came in a very close second for me. It’s a bit more pricey than Savannah (except downtown) but doable. Only reason I didn’t is Savannah is a bit closer to my vacation spots in the gulf but equal distance to Charlotte.

Still from what I’ve seen both are great areas to settle down. Austin was another choice they could’ve sent me to and I was like nahhh I’m good lol. Bring me back home where I can afford to live.

My only issue with Savannah was the boating, had to live in the low country for a year, and found there to be few fishermen, even less boaters, and zero . zero divers.

Fun town though, a little too fun in my earlier years.

While I have much more confidence in our staff than in previous years, I still occasionally question moves they make. D. J. Johnson in the third? Okay, I'll reserve judgement. Keeping Henderson around is another. My conclusion is either they think they can get more out of him or there's literally no one better out there in the coaches' estimation.

I normally dog on this team a lot, it's well earned, but these moves don't bother me as much as some others.

DJ was selected because of a run, and a need....and his profile.  EE sees something there that gets him excited for his defense...who knows how it will turn out, but I really like seeing a DC be IN on a player, explaining that to both the coach, and the GM/scouts, and them agreeing with is idea and approach.  Again, could be a bad call, but I do like the conviction and communication.

As to CJ....he's an incredible athlete, is young, is fairly cheap, has been poorly coached, and both of our starters are coming off of injury, with one of those being an achilles.  I totally get the move, and yes, he's better than most anything out there currently.

Austin is getting too crazy. Crime is up, property values are up, cost of living is insane. Savannah is a good. choice too. If my folks weren't in Wilmington, it would have been another city we looked at.

    Congrats, and welcome "home".

What part of ILM are you guys in?
