Yeah, honestly not seeing it in his frame.

Yup.  Just because you can gain the weight, doesn't mean that you can play like that.

Lots of history of guys with specific motions that can't replicate it after stacking up pounds...he looks to me to be one of those guys.

Again, if the team thinks it's not a huge deal, then I'm going to trust them, but he doesn't come without knocks....this isn't Peyton or Luck here.

Fitterer basically saying BY is around the same weight as Wilson was coming out of the draft around 206 he's now 220. They will get him on a nutritional program he's only 20 he will grow through his career.

I get the mindset. Just have to see it in action.

Doesn't look like he can carry that much more weight to me, but whatever.  Russ and Brees both looked much thicker coming out.

Stroud is my guy, best passer I’ve seen in a while. Would be a bit disappointed with Young, but I’ll come around eventually.

I agree...except for Burrow...he's the only other jumping to mind.

Outside of him, I think you are correct.  He looks to be able to do it all, like I've said, Manning I arm from the looks of it, but certainly not his processing speed....not many will ever have that.  He can drill, float, hit guys in stride and on time....very important in Franks offense, and what made Manning so damn deadly.  He just makes the throws, and the drop backs look sooo smooth.

  4. I mentioned it the first time I posted here about the trade...

But the moment I heard about it, real fast, I texted a group chat McCowns breakdown of him prior to him becoming our QB coach.  If he was that excited about him, then that just had to be the pick.

Then I started watching more and more throws, snaps, plays....and CJ just made it all look so easy.  Now that can be system...but you still have to be able to hit the damn throws....and he did, easily.

I didn't think for an instant Young was as small as he was....until I watched him....yikes...just scary scary stuff to me...but whatever, is what it is.  He's special, I'm just not sure he has the type arm to create like he did in college, and certainly doesn't have the size that comes with the hits of being creative.

We have an offensive staff that knows which will work best in their offense, they've made up their minds, and IMO, likely did before moving up.  I prefer Stroud, he seems like he would excel in the type of offense that I enjoy watching...but who knows what Frank wants to do, and I trust him a lot more than some dumb fan who likes to watch football, and the QB position in specific.

  5. Great write up.

This is the first time in my life that I've felt pretty good about the trajectory of the Panthers.

We really seem to be building a team, and not just the 53 man roster.  Like how an owner should build a team if they didn't know what they were doing.  Not pointing any fingers here.....

Overpay for some of the very best Front Office personnel, who all have a relationship or get along well with each other.

Trust them to select your coaching staff...once again, overpay.

Sit in your box 8 Sunday's per year, and another billionaires box the other 9.  Then, hope you get to sit in your box once again for the 9th home game that season, and possibly a 10th.

The under center, or lack thereof from Bryce is something that REALLY bothers me.  It's hard to have a good run game if you can't play under center.

With Josh and Frank in there...you have to think they would want someone who isn't limited to the gun.

  7. Couple of those things kinda confirms what I was seeing watching them play.

Young is better at shorter passes, and is  better under duress.

Stroud is better at mid range, and can throw deep, but that's not his cup of tea.

I still kinda liken them to Manning 1's arm and placement for CJ, and Wilsons ability to create and bomb here and there for huge splash plays.

I do NOT think that Stroud has Mannings ability to see the field, and I also don't think that Young has as good of an arm, or is as good of a runner as Early Russ.

Somebody asked if Stroud and Young were the same size, would it be any question who was the number one pick.  For me, I would still go with Stroud because I favor his style of play.  That's not to say Young is a scrambler or anything like that, but he is more big play ball.  I like the guy who is more methodical.  A 10 yard pass here, a slant there.  Just someone who gets under the opposing defense's skin.  Above all else, as I said of Stroud before, throwing is effortless for him.  There is nothing like a skill that is second nature, and Stroud's skill is throwing.

So can I live with it as a Panther's fan if we don't pick him and Young struggles.  It would be like for me, the same feeling I had when Tom Brady threw those three miracle bombs to Mike Evans to end our run for the playoffs.  I was asking myself what in the living heck are we doing out there?  How can we let this happen?  All you had to do was put a safety over the top, and it wasn't like Mike Evans was the fastest guy in the world. (I still want to dump CJ Henderson and Keith Taylor from this team for their transgressions LOL!)  If we pick Young and he bombs, I'm going to be thinking 'What are we doing'?

I wouldn't feel this way if Stroud wasn't available by the way.  If Stroud stayed in college for instance, and the top QBs available were Young/Richardson/Levis, I would be 1000% okay with picking Young and letting the consequences be what they would be.  I just feel like Stroud is about as a sure lock for greatness as there can be outside of a Peyton Manning, John Elway, or once in a generation type.  My feeling is Stroud's floor is a longer version of Andrew Luck's career.

CJ's style of play makes it easier for those around him, Young's makes everyone else's job harder.

Line may or may not know where you are going.  WR's may not know what you are trying to do, or where to be, etc...

I hope this is a choice between two HOF'ers, not likely, but I'm hoping....in that instance you are kinda sitting here picking between Russell Wilson and Peyton Manning.  They are both great, both will wear gold jackets together...but you may prefer one play style to the other.

    I prefer Manning.

Used to be like this, no more.

And IMO, it's just wrong to do that to fans.  If I had booked tickets to fly to Green Bay and rented hotel rooms so I could show my son Lambeau....and they Flexed it two weeks prior......boy, I'd be HOT.

Im just old enough to remember the times when having a cell phone was rare. My parents didn't have a GPS when we traveled and would read the signs on the road to get directions. We would get lost so many times but that didn't stop them from getting to our destination. Life seemed more fun and peaceful back then. We didn't know what was going on around the world. The times we spent as a family meant much more because we weren't all in our cellphones using social media apps.

Now the world revolves around social media. Everybody looking for likes and trying to become famous on tik tok. Life just isn't the same. Social media changed the world for the worst. Humans can't function without a cell phone now. 30 years ago we were all living life without social media. Crazy how much life has changed. I honestly missed life before social media. Seemed a lot more stress free and people had more love for each other.

Oldheads talk to me which life did you prefer new age or old age?

It was much more calm and serine, but do we tend to remember things more glowingly than they actually were.

That said, yes, I long for the past.  I do love being able to "work" and earn money from "anywhere", however, with that comes great responsibility, and annoyance.

I can do the majority of my "job" from an island in the Bahamas, and I do when I go...however you are still working, and not getting the needed down time to not burn yourself out.  People want immediacy, and they now expect it due to cell phones, and the ability to access the internet from 99% of the locations where you find yourself.

As to the social media aspect of this, I do think that it's a cancer, the vanity and flash I see on IG is gross, just plain gross, and the children plastered across FB is unsettling to me....just very little good out there.

  13. Welp.

It's noon on Friday in Wilmington, so it's about time for work to be done today.

Can't decide if I'm going to take the boat for a spin around the beach, or head over to my buddies house and sit on the dock with him and have a cool one.

    Decisions decisions.

Honestly one of the things I get excited about CVJ based on these reports is his accuracy.

The QB we draft will be our next franschise guy that we compare to Cam and Jake. And the one thing I HOPING this next guy can do it actually hit a guy in stride.

I loved CAM and for as amazing as he was I feel like we had so many opportunities left on the field cause he would throw behind a receiver and make them stop or slow down, causing them to get tackled.

ALL I want is to see a get catch a ball in stride while running across the middle. Sounds like CJ can do that.

    100%.

Can he place the ball where he wants it, and can he get it there when it needs to be there?  CJ looks like he does both....and well.

Kind like watching Brees and Manning 1.  Those two, while neither having top shelf arms, knew exactly where the ball needed to be, and the anticipation to make sure it was there at the exact time it was supposed to be.

That makes everyones job SOOOO much easier, except the defense.

Give me the pure passer, please.

I haven't watched game tape of Young, and won't after seeing his pro day.

He uses everything he can to get the ball launched. There is some little move that he does, that moves him forward a little where he then starts his throwing motion.

He needs the depth and time to do a deep throw, and you can't judge that from watching college and say it will be fine (okay, you can), you need to extrapolate that to NFL speed, size, and smarts. The coaching staffs are wilier than college.

I don't think he will be able to step up and what I envision or foresee is him abandoning the pocket and taking off, will be his main game.

Then I watch a guy flick his wrist to throw, the ball comes out fast and flying right, and goes where he wants it. And, the guy takes snaps under the center. Pro.

Precisely what I saw.  I do not see above average arm strength from Young.  Not that CJ has a Cutler or Stafford arm, but it's more than enough.

Young scares me as a prospect.

3.02 seconds in the NFL is an eternity to hold on to the ball. Add in his lack of arm strength and you're shrinking the field vertically and horizontally depending on the hash as well.

This is my fear.  Young plays a little like Mahommes....but he doesn't have the size, nor the arm strength for it to translate easily to the NFL.

    We shall see.

In my opinion, Frelend could be BSing the NFL world with most of her "analytics" but she does make some good points here that give us reason to consider different perspectives.  For example, if Young is able to overcome his size and stay safe, the next question is "how?"  A deeper drop.  She mentions tackles, and that is a good point.  A deeper drop makes the path the QB more linear for edge rushers, who are currently challenged with their bends.  A deep drop lessens the angle, given the OTs the challenge of facing more power and speed.  Although the difference is slight, it can be significant.  To compensate, the OT also has a more linear drop, (an ideal OT drop is approximately 45 degrees outward) and this new challenge might cause that drop to increase to 55 degrees, for example).  That reduces the size of the pocket because it causes the initial contact to be inside a smaller pocket.

I think it was Byron Bell and Mike Remmers who were dropping at nearly the same angle of the QB--straight back--forcing Cam to step up or spin out.  Problem was, Cam was not that deep and his athleticism could extend plays.  However, Frelend hits on a great point without getting into the details.  The impact on the OTs.

In other words, if all this is true, it places a tremendous pressure on your OTs--something that may not be exposed in college, but in the NFL, it will be exploited--in my opinion.

If you want to read a VERY THOROUGH statistical breakdown of "Time to Throw" (TTT) this Colts article is second to none:

    https://www.stampedeblue.com/2021/10/16/22727432/fine-lets-talk-about-time-to-throw

Based on these stats, it sure seems as if the most pass attempts are between 2.4 and 2.7 seconds.

Chiefs LT left, and many thought it was because it's very hard to play T for a QB who loves to extend plays...ala Young.

I don't like having to play out of the gun, and I think that Young will need that to survive/thrive at the next level.

  18. 21 minutes ago, stan786 said:

Nowhere, you said a longer rope because what happens if Young gets injured week 6 was wondering what exactly that would do to the leash compared to Stroud failing for an issue of his.

The answer is the rope is generally the same because they are gonna get a few years to prove our a concept.

If Young gets injured or his arm doesn’t prove to be as strong and he can’t hit the windows. Or Stroud can’t handle the pressure and can’t win with the weapons we have around him.

Failure gonna cost some jobs regardless.

The biggest fears of each QB are:

Young:  Size and injury concerns.  Followed by arm strength.

Stroud:  Can he play in a muddled pocket.  Product of system.  Leader. (new one who knows)

So, if Young gets crushed game 6, then doesn't make it through year 2....what do you do?  The one big ole fear came true, and you have egg on your face.

If Stoud can't read the defense, can't stand up to the rush....well same thing.

If Stroud get's injured, or Young can't really see the field...it's a little different, IMO.

Beach Bars,  where drinking is not only accepted ,but encouraged in the middle of the day. The smell of salt air.

My hobbies include surfing, diving, spearfishing, boating, outdoor woodworking projects, etc....

Don't watch TV and the only time I'm indoors is when I'm sleeping or working.  Walking trails and biking around on electric bikes ain't my idea of fun.
