Other Interesting Tidbits:
- Nolen Smith was a player we were watching to pair with Burns in the draft for 39th until he went 30th
- Stephen Sullivan is really pushing Tremble for TE3

So is he going to be our starting 3-4 nose tackle? Isn’t he a bit small for it? That’s my main concern going into the season, it doesn’t seem like we have the right pieces for a 3-4 DL.
He is going to be switching with DB in that nose role. His tape suggests his size wont be an issue as he's been very solid against the run in his career. They probably feel it wont be a problem even though his role will be slightly different here with more two gapping.

Jensen probably makes this roster, especially with Corbett likely hitting PUP. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Zavala taking over the LG position sooner rather than later because of his size and Christensen moving into swing tackle. Agent 89 mentioned something similar on his podcast as well:
He also mentions Wright and Milton as dawgs who could be taking spots from Taylor and STO in the secondary and Peoples battling Chubba for RB2. Alot of the UDFAs could be taking positions from incumbents as the coaching staff makes their mark on the roster.

Dude has played in the NFL for 2 seasons. He doesn't have 4.3 NFL speed. He is a possession type.
You don't judge a guys speed based on what his college team says at a pro day. and 40 times are overrated often to begin with. It measures how efficient and well someone can pull off a 40. Which isn't really a great measure of NFL speed.
I agree 40s are just indicators that make you confirm or re-watch tape. All I did is give you the full video of his run. Put the stopwatch on him if you don't believe LSU.
Don't ignore Mingo as a deep threat either, who was clocked over 22 mph in pads.

TMJ ain’t got 4.3 speed. LSU might say so. When LSU wasn’t on the timer he logged 4.5 at the college combine. Which matches more his game day appearance.
he is a possession WR

What about that RB that looks exactly like Christian McCaffrey what's his name?
Max Borghi. I left him off because it seemed redundant in our RB room but he's been solid and could get another look in the league as like a 3rd down back.

Some names to keep an eye on after looking around with a mind on age and/or production:
RB - Abram Smith
WR - Hakeem Butler
CB - Luq Barcoo, Michael Joseph, Kary Vincent Jr., Ajene Harris
iOL - Dohnovan West, Michael Maietti, Alex Mollette, Liam Fornadel, Jamil Demby
OT - Derrick Kelly
EDGE - Trent Harris

Redman has a serious chance of making the team and stealing snaps as a 34 end. Peoples does too because he's different than the other backs on the roster.
I know Bumper Pool is a favorite with the name and all but don't be shocked if the other LB UDFA makes the team instead. Ajiake played under our one LB coach when he was the DC at UNLV.
Like the Wright and Milton signings too.

I'm assuming they see DJ Johnson as filling a major need in terms of a bigger OLB who is suppose to first play the run and then lead into a pass rusher.
I also assume this position is the same one they are envisioning for YGM since they are of more similar build so they would be competing for playing time with YGM obviously having the early advantage.
I guess this makes sense because we really don't have anyone else in that mold besides YGM right now so it was a big need.
Still wonder if we needed to trade up, but again, if he can contribute, it doesn't matter.
I don't think drafting DJ Johnson means anything in terms of still adding a FA EDGE. I think they will add one.
I also think this means the scheme is set up to let someone like Burns or Haynes to pin their ears back and just pass rush, which I'm sure they would like. Barno would be more in that vein also.
So, I do get that someone like DJ Johnson seemed to be a big need scheme wise and we didn't really have anyone else besides YGM with the traits Evero is looking for on the roster.
This is a solid way of looking at it. Burns can do it all, but Haynes and Barno are just speed guys right now. YGM's probably the only one viewed as a power rusher and there is no one else on the roster for that role.
We like to think we can get guys with later picks but we're only basing that off of what we've seen from the various media outlets. There's not very many prospects that fit that power rusher profile that might have fit in that pick range and we clearly were afraid of what Tampa might do after the falcons selection and needed to get ahead of them. Maybe McGuire or Yaya who Tampa selected.

Might as well grab the 2 Byrons in the draft too so you can have all 4.

I looked through RAS scores and picked out the names that scored top 100 all time at their position and had length (min 32" for WR, TE, CB, S, LB and min 34" EDGE, DT, OT, G, C and no min length for RB). There's a good portion of these names I haven't even looked at but some could be underrated right now and some could be picked up as developmental prospects as the draft rolls on or as UDFAs
RB - Bijon Robinson, Chase Brown, Isreal Abanikanda, Deneric Prince, Darius Hagans, Xazavian Valladay
WR - Bryce Ford-Wheaton, Andrei Iosivas, Jonathan Mingo, Matt Landers, Colton Dowell
TE - Zack Kuntz, Darnell Washington, Luke Schoonmaker, Luke Musgraves, Tucker Kraft, Major Roman, John Stephens Jr.
OT - Broderick Jones, Earl Bostick Jr., Ryan Swoboda
LB - Trenton Simpson, Nick Hampton, Yasir Abdullah
CB - Julius Brents, Christian Gonzalez, Tre Hawkins III, Darius Rush, Kaleb Hayes, Joey Porter Jr., Cory Trice Jr.
S - Gervarrius Owen, RJ Hubert
EDGE/OLB - Will McDonald IV, Isaiah Foskey, Derrick Hall
DT/DE - Keion White

That should stop anyone that still didn't think it was Young.
And with QB locked up, edge rusher is by far our biggest need going into the draft. I know I've heard Leonard Floyd free agency rumors but not at all surprising to see a heavy emphasis on that position as well.

Mingo was here last week. Think I saw JSN and Tyler Scott were as well.
-
We're trading back at 39....might as well lock that in.

Hardman + Thielen + Schultz/Geisecki + secondary TE like a Bratte.
We do need a seam stretching TE too. Feel like Geisecki's blocking might take him off our wish list though. Thinking more like an Ebron type of signing coming.
Oh and I forgot about DJ Chark and Darius Slayton as a speed merchants as well.
-
Thielen would be a great add. Just tack on a speed merchant like Hardman or Campbell and we'll be alright.

It's going to be Young or Stroud in the first and a WR or TE in the second now.
-
So it's officially Young, Stroud and Richardson now. What's that cost for pick 3 again?
-
He's probably right there with Hooker. Similar issues on the field going into the draft.

Siaki Ika shows up in the mocks a lot. Is anything confirmed that we are going to 3-4?
No nothing confirmed. Evero is a decibel of that 34 but had said in the past you have to build your scheme around your players so it could go either way. Will probably need to see how the team approaches free agency.

I seemed to remember that Roy was a NT in college at Baylor, but he simply doesn't have the strength in the NFL to anchor. McCall could play there, but how will he look? I doubt he's a starter, possibly a backup NT. Brown will absolutely play outside. They may move him inside on certain packages, but in base formation, he needs to be outside.
My best guess by the current roster is McCall would start NT in base with Brown and YGM flanking him. Biggest weakness to the defense has to be FS with upgrades probably needed at NT, 5tech, ILB and CB as well.
-
Roy very much played NT in college. McCall certainly could do it as well and Brown will definitely be used there too.
What I'm looking for in the third preseason game

Main concern is with the pass protection from the OL (Everyone but Moton really). Just worried they were insulated by a heavy run offense last season. Defense probably needs some time to adjust to scheme and personnel changes.
No concerns with Bryce from what I've seen, he's looked very good in his limited snaps.
