My theory has been that Fitterer wants to draft a quarterback but Rhule doesn't. A veteran QB is a more immediate benefit to him.

But if Fitterer were able to talk Rhule into it, Pickett would make sense as Rhule's choice.

I really don’t think Rhule has the power like that anymore. I’ve heard multiple National guys on NFL radio say Fitt is more so in charge of player personnel now and some have even said he’s gonna be picking the next head coach. Reasonable minds can disagree but I believe we’re gonna take the number one qb on the board (if he’s there) no matter if it’s Willis or Pickett or trade back. I’ve been saying Malik Willis Szn forever and if we take a qb at 6 and he’s there I believe it’ll be him…even if he isn’t as pro ready as Pickett.

  2. Trading back is definitely the move. I’m hoping the Jets and Vikings fall in love with Sauce Gardner (I’ve heard both orgs love him and the jets might even take him at 4) and are offering competing offers to jump the giants. We could get the jets 10 and one of their 2nd (one was actually ours smh) and still get an outstanding player.

I bet I could guess who it is… was with the Dolphins myself in 2016 and it was still a problem for him then. Gase would break the team in the huddle after practices and in front of everyone tell said player to “take it easy this weekend” or “take a break from South Beach” etc. I kinda respected Gase’s approach… air the player out a bit in front of his whole team in hopes that would get him to get his act together.

    Then spill the beans lol

  4. I know it’s fun to pile on everything Rhule but his drafts have actually been above average and if you take out the Hurney year last years draft class legitimately was a really good one. Save the inexplicable Fletcher pick all of our picks contributed in spite of Rhule. I know we want to be negative all the time but nah this isn’t one I’m letting slide our scouts did a heck of a job once Fitt got here.

If you took nothing away you don't know how to read between the lines, because there was a lot unsaid that spoke volumes.

"They know this is a great place to live and this is a place that should be desirable." The very loud implication is that it isn't desirable. Acknowledging that they know it's not desirable for players is acknowledging that he knows the reason why. Leads me to believe it's no questions that Rhule's on the hot seat, and he not only has to win, but build a culture that's attractive to players.

"The right way to build a team is to draft and develop." He followed that up by saying the best situation with a quarterback is to get "5 good years" out of them on their rookie contract, before they ask for the sky to re-sign, and then you don't have the cap space to build around them anymore.

To me, that says he's not considering anyone who's not a day one starter at the QB position with our #6 pick. It's simply not cost-effective to spend a year developing a first rounder. If he's drafting a guy in the first round, he's going to want to plug him in day 1. If he's going to develop a QB, it will be someone in the later rounds.

It's debatable how many guys in the draft this year are ready, or even capable of taking over the starting role from day 1. And when he said they're bringing in 30 guys, he specifically said QB and tackle.

I've gotta think based on this conference we're leaning towards a tackle in the draft.

I agree with most of what you said but he literally said the best way to build a team is with a QB on a rookie salary. He also implied Brady being back threw a wrench into the NFC South thing so I’m not positive Pickett is the pick. If Willis/Corral have more upside in their eyes we’re drafting one of them and likely bringing Cam/trading for a Minshew/Foles type while they figure it out this year. I really do think Rhule has ceded a good bit of control to Fitt and Morgan whether he realizes it or not.

  6. I think Tyreek is asking for star qb money and KC just can’t do it. They offered him a contract to make him one of the highest paid players in the NFL but it sounds like he wants record breaking money that KC can’t afford/won’t do. I’m sure he’s like most WR and a diva behind the scenes but idk if he’s AB bad that’s a lot to put on some one.

  7. I pied the post but Rhule is largely to blame in addition to Tepper. However I’m ready to move on from every thread having a Rhule sucks in it….it is what it is but we’ve had a solid off-season so far. All things considered it could (somehow?) be worse.

You sign a SB MLB like Damien Wilson at the age of 29 for experience and mentorship. Possibly temporary starter.

The moves point to the Panthers drafting Devin Lloyd or Nakobe Dean.

MLB has been the one position they have been silent on as a need and the 1st round championship leaders sitting there for them in Lloyd and Dean.

They have addressed the OL. Likely not going OL in 1st round. There is no 1st round QB talent in the draft and there are no signs of moving Darnold. Cam Newton seems to remain an option too.

I'm expecting the Panthers to trade down and make the moves to take a LB in the 1st round and then a QB on day 2. LB gets mentored by Wilson and QB competes for the starting job.

The defensive signings and roster building feel like Snow is moving primarily to his 33 stack defense from college which he has been messing with the past 2 seasons but has not had the MLB or FS to make it work (they tried to force Shaq and Chinn into these roles and moved them out of position). If the Panthers sign another top safety that can play FS/SS I'm sure we will see the 33 defense used often. They tried using Gilmore in this role as a CB/FS last season, but it just didn't hold up against the run.

If they sign another flex safety (say Mathieu... who may or may not be a target):

    Brown NT, Ioannidis DE(strong), Gross-Matos(weak)

    Lloyd MLB, Thompson OLB(strong), Burns(weak)

FS Mathieu, Chinn SS(strong), Woods SS(weak)

    CB Horn, Henderson, Jackson

Ioannidis can slide to DT, Burns can slide to DE, Chinn can slide to LB on any given play. Snow will have a D that can go from a 44 to a 43 to a 46 to a 34 to a 33 to quarters with an audible. You just need DEs, MLB, and SS who can stop the run while the MLB and SS are able to drop into zone or man coverage for this 33 defense to not get exposed.

If that’s the case I hope we’re trading down then. I’m ok with a LB in the 1st but not in the top 10. I know Luke was a top ten pick but how many Lukes are there?
