  1. Makes you wonder what DWill has to do to be better than just OK? I guess if 3rd in the league in rushing, almost 5 yards per carry, and almost 100 yards a game is just OK. What does the guy have to do?

Also, it is nice seeing Shula trying to adjust his Offense so far. 1st game he was too conservative, with reason. 2nd game he went a little overboard. 3rd game he dialed it in rather nicely. Not bad for a guy who was supposed to be bad at the whole making adjustments part of the game.

As long as Shula can continue to call a good game. DWill is going to get his. I can live with that.

  2. Yeah, um....that is just false. Williams was our only option in-between the 20s....so yeah, he gets the work. He has run well doing what he does

And yeah, our ground attack has been okay. Nothing special. It has been consistent....which is good.

If we get healthy it should get better

Williams is not the "Only" option between the 20s. Cam is doing most of his damage in that area of the field. Tolbert has gotten carries as well. Not sure what you were trying to say here, but it is a false statement.

Our ground attack is 2nd in the league. How is that only OK? This is just silly.

When we get healthy? You will just complain that we won't be getting value from our backs.

You have some very strange views my friend. But hey, to each their own. Hey, at least you are getting responses. Keep trying to downplay DWill. Nobody seems to agree with you, but hellz, don't let that stop you from trying.

  3. So...DWill is averaging almost 5 yards per carry, and 100 yards a game. But that is only OK? I sure wish he would pick it up, cuz this is ridiculous type production. Maybe when the rookie and Stewy, and his surgically repaired ankles, get back, the production will improve to better than OK.

Barner is a rookie. Chances are he will get a few touches. Surely that will take DWill out of the game. Um...no

Or Stewy coming back will just jump right in. No need to ease him back, cuz, well, you know, he is Stewy and all.

DWill has proven, once again, that when he gets his touches he can be effective. Sure Barner will get some touches, Stewy too. But as long as DWill stays effective, he will get his touches. It is just smart football. Our coaching staff may be learning on the fly. But they are smart enough to keep feeding an effective player.

CRA...dude. Please quit using your thoughts as facts. Just because you think it should be, does not make it a "Matter of fact". The only argument you have is the money. And you are the only one hung up on that at this point.

  4. I sure wish you folks that claim DWill goes down on first contact would get a clue. If you don't tackle him, he keeps going.

He had one run against Buffalo, and two against the Giants that if not for a saving tackle could have been home runs. Both the runs against the Giants he was hit multiple times and still almost broke it. One run was up the middle, one on a pitch from Cam. So he can still break it from anywhere.

If you do not wrap him up, he is still dangerous. The powers that be want us to have a semblance of balance. So far, DWill has allowed them to achieve that. I can live with that.

  5. Well let's not forget that Beason earned that contract too. He's an All-Pro LB when healthy. Prior to his injuries, he [along with Patrick Willis] were the NFC's top representatives on the defensive side of the ball. Granted, Jon has played limited snaps these past two years but if he stays on the field this year and remains productive, I don't see a problem with Beason being paid.

Of course though, nothing is certain yet. Too many unknown constants and variables to make assumptions at this endeavor.

Call me crazy, but I think both Beason and Gettleman want to see him play this year in order to gauge his contract versus other 4-3 OLBs. Since Beason was a MLB when he got that contract, playing OLB this year will better determine how he measures up to other OLBs and thus how "off" his contract is.

If he can be as productive as, let's say, I don't know, (pulling an OLB name out of thin air) Lance Briggs, then a restructure is probably going to happen.

If he blows up QBs and gets 12-15- (I don't know) 45 sacks like an OLB in a 3-4, then he'll want even more money and he'll probably be cut or traded.

If he blows out a leg again, he'll HAVE to take a pay cut or be cut.

If he's just another guy out there with average production, it's also take a pay cut or be cut.

That's a lot of ifs, and only a season at OLB will provide the answers. Frankly, he's done enough for this organization to deserve that chance, and I'm glad the team has enough class to let him determine his future.

Exactly. His performance this year goes a long way in determining his future. Both as a Panther, and as far as compensation is concerned. My main hope is a healthy Beast and an extension in the offseason. Allowing us to keep him, and lower that massive cap hit.

We are better with him. But... With Keek and TD. Do we really need an expensive 3rd LB. Or can we get by with our rookie (Forgot his name) going into his second year?

I can see us using that money to upgrade other positions. But I can also see us keeping Beast. Glad I ain't making this decision.

  6. Everything is pointing to Beason taking a paycut next season. Jon wants a ring, and if this squad makes a good run in 2013, he'll want to stick around. Beast adores Charlotte anywho.

See that's the gist of it. He hasn't played in almost 2 years. He has gotten paid well for it. If he were so inclined, he could offer to restructure, take a pay cut, or even an extension. Restructures don't help in the long run. He probably won't take a pay cut. So it pretty much leaves an extension.

If he is healthy, an extension could solve a lot of problems. Then again, Gettlemen may want to jettison that cap hit next year anyway. Too many options at this point to give a definitive answer to the Beast question.

I totally believe we are a better team with Beast than without him. I hope this works out for the best. But I am not too comfortable with it at all.

  7. This will test his resolve to make his career about championships, instead of more individual accolades. Seems to me players have a bit of an ego about the size of their, ahem, contracts in the locker room. Let's see if he buys into what he's selling to the media.

As much as we all want to think the best of players. It really does come down to money for a lot of them. Is Beast one of those types? We will have to wait to find out. Cuz if it is all about money, and not championships like he says, he may not be around much longer.

We all know his contract is an albatross and if we know it, he knows it. Is he willing to help? That is the question.

  8. As long as we can restructure or reduce Beason's contract soon, I agree. But I'm more optimistic about our 2 new DTs becoming our version of Warren Sapp and Booger McFarland.

I agree that Beast makes our Core better. My thinking is, if he stays healthy and has a good to great year. We will extend him. Which could lower that massive cap hit quite a bit.

Because if we can't do something with his contract, we may not be able to keep him past this year.

With Keek and TD, we can get by with a less dominant player. It has to be cost effective or Gettlemen may decide to make a change.

  9. Did you say that the guy we used a 4th round pick on last year is one drop away from being cut. For some reason you've gotta a head full of steam on this one and Im hearing you, but man it sounds very unreasonable.

First of all, he's not slow, when you say something like that it makes me want to not hear anything else you have to say because its just plain absurd. Go watch any time he's touched the ball and tell me you dont notice that he's exploding away from the initial defenders. Secondly its not dropsies that he has, he fumbles. Thats worse, but both are fixable anyways. Thirdly Tavon Austin. . you know that guy that was drafted in the top 10, is 170-175. . .smaller than Adams. There are plenty of sets to put small shifty guys into. Aaaaand lastly a player needs to really poo the bed to get cut after being drafted in the 4th the year before.

Like I said he has to show something, but hes a favorite to make that 5th spot. Oh and btw its not like kick/punt returning is a safe and cozy position to play. Injuries are common enough that coaches/gm's often stock plenty of them.

The bottom line is that he will be helpful to the team so he will get a spot. Im not trying to poke, I hope you understand Im just a loud guy who likes to have fun and laugh a lot. . . but you gotta get them paddles back in the water sir. It sounds like you have an emotional tie to some other candidate on the roster and Im still waiting for you to spill that part. Who is it, Lamont, that big dummeh?  Whos better than Joe Adams?. . .  Pilares, AE? and dont say Gettis, pssst I know, but he needs confidence.

First off. 4th rounders are not a lock to make a team. Especially after the season Adams just had. If he does not fix the issue he has with ball control, it wouldn't matter what round he was drafted. He hurts his chances to make this team every time he drops something. If Rivera can't trust him, he won't see the field. If he can't sniff the field, what good is he?

Secondly, his measurables. He is one of, if not the, smallest guys around. He may have some quickness, but he ain't fast. He has potential, I will give him that.  But even you said he needs to show something.

I live in SEC country. I have seen him play. I am a big fan. Unfortunately, I have to believe he did everything within his power improve for this year. That if, if, he can reach his potential this year. He can help us.

There definitely is an opening for Joe. Is he capable of claiming it?

Hellz, I am already on the Adams in the Slot, with Barner in the Backfield train. I just don't see it becoming a reality.

  10. you're still jumping past a step. Why isn't Joe Adams going to make the team as a wide receiver?

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

To tell you the truth, I don't even think of him in that way. So let's take a looksee at what we have.

Smitty, Lafell, Hixon, Ginn, and that's 4. We have now got 10 other guys fighting for those last 2 spots. Given his checkered past with the dropsies, size, and lack of speed, he is 1 drop form being in the first cut.

But, my biggest concern with Joe, is he just hasn't shown anything close to a flash. As I have said, If he makes the team it will probably be as a returner. And then he takes up another WR spot. Which leaves only 1 spot remaining.

IMO that is to much cost for the perceived value. So he had better show out all offseason. Every meeting, every practice, and at every opportunity. He has to show his past is truly behind him.

The kid is behind the eight ball. He has a shot. It is up to him to seize it. I will say, if, if he makes the team, I am going to be happy. I always liked the kid.

  11. Yeah but what logic block are you having that is preventing you from thinking they wont both make the team. Cause theyre both returners? That rational is a little thin I think, Hubs.

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

Well, let's see if I can clear my convoluted logic up for you.

Adams is a WR/Returner. If he doesn't make it as a Returner, he has very little shot of making the team as a WR.

Barner is a RB/Returner. If he doesn't make It as a Returner, he has a shot at making the team as a RB.

So, unless Adams has fixed his butterfingers, and can actually prove he can handle return duties. He is a long shot to make the team.

Whereas, Barner could make the team as a RB, and if he can handle the return duties, he is pretty much a lock to make the team.

The only way they both make the team is if they both show the ability to be a factor in the return game. And if they are both factors, we should probably keep the one that can help in other ways. Barner has a chance to see the field as a Scat Back type RB. Where Adams has little chance of making the team as a WR.

tl/dr version. The only way they both make the team is if Adams makes it as the Return Guy.

    Hope that helps.

  12. Adams is in his second year. I dont think he would stay on the practice squad long if they tried to stash him. Pilares got a free ride last year, Armanti has gotten multiple. It would be very aggressive to cut him when he's just coming off his rookie year. I agree he has to show something though so its not really a lock. I'll still consider it very probable, it might as well be.

    ..

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

Part of me would love to see Adams make the team. Because it would mean he has cleaned up his act and can be a productive member of the this team.

But, in all honesty, I can't see both Adams and Barner making the team. Which ever one shows out the best would probably have the leg up. Neither one was much of a reach, so letting one or the other go is not going to cost much.

Which ever one wins the battle should make us better. That is all that really matter in the long run.

    .

    .

    .

  13. Joe Adams is a lock for a roster spot, 5 locks not 4. . . . and that last spot belongs to #12. He's gonna show you why in TC.

    .

    .

    .

    .

    .

Adams does have  shot. It is up to him to prove he is the player we want him to be. IMO,  If he wants to be a Panther, he has to show out and kill Barner, and everyone else.. He had better be BPA throughout the offseason, right up to last cuts. Because if he can't be trusted to return punts, he has no value.

All Adams has to do is beat out Ginn and Barner to win a job.

Same with Gettis. He had better show up if he wants a second chance. If he ain't pushin for playing time, he has no value.

In my short time with Gettlemen, I don't see him as the type to hang on to those no value guys too long.
