Uh no it isn't but we can tell which show you still watch rofl. Like who the fug still watches first take lol. You still tune in the the radio or some black and white TV. How about that CB.

Not sure if that was directed at me.  I just followed the link and listened to this on youtube.  If this was "first take", that's news to me.  I've never seen first take (until now I guess?).

Since you asked, I mostly read.  Don't watch a lot of TV, listen to the radio, or own a CB.  Since the link was provided, I thought I'd give it a fair listen since the guy is a legit ex-QB who does this for a living as opposed to some message board hack.

Still trying to understand your point.  Is Simms opinion less worthy because he presented them on this "first take" show?

  2. I listened to almost all of it.  I think he's got a lot of it right - especially the first 7.  If we snag WFTs first, second and 2022's first and maybe some change, I'd be on board with the trade.  And with a deep T draft and an extra 2nd this year, It's not crazy to roll the dice on possibly the best cb in the class given our needs.  I'd probably take slater, then Stokes/Newsome with our second, then Grant with Washington's second.

  3. Stirs is an optimist.

My numbers say there is a 59.2% chance he is gone.

45.6% chance he goes to the bengals.  If he slips past the bengals, I give the lions a 25% chance of selecting him.

So there is a 41.2% chance he is there and I assume we would select him at 8.  The only caveat is if Denver is worried about NE giving us a bid for a QB that is too good to pass up and they offer us a 3rd or something to switch places.  Then I assume we pick him 9th.

If anyone would like to see my math, let me know.

  4. He may be traded to a team that does not want to bid on him on the open market.  There are a lot of really good teams with stud QBs and below average backups.  They don't want to throw away their season if their franchise QB goes down for 6-8 weeks (think NO).  TB can hold things steady and keep a team afloat while waiting for their guy to return.

Think of a team like Tampa.  Brady is old - he could screw up his knew and miss 8 games in the middle of the season.  That team is too good to have to rely on Gabbert.  TB probably allows them to go 5-3 or 6-2 until Brady is back for the playoff push.

    Cutting him saves us 3m.

But if Carolina can convert 7m of his salary to bonus - reducing his base salary to 10m.  I think some teams might be willing to bite on this price.  In this scenario, we save 6m instead of 3m, and receive some compensation (maybe a future 3rd or 4th).  Savings could increase in 2021 if we spread the dead hit into next year.

I am going to go out on a limb here because I live on the edge.  A risk taker--man on a mission, etc.  My friends call me, "that guy," if that means anything to you people..........That's what I thought.

    • Jones WILL go to SF at #3.  Book it.
    • The #4 spot, whether it is Atlanta or another team after a trade, could go to a NON QB player.  Sewell or Chase, if a non QB---a trade between Denver (not WFT or NE) and Atlanta is the only way Fields goes at #4.  (That is a pretty bold, specific prediction.  MARK MY WORDS!!!
    • Watch Mond and the Patriots--he could not only sneak into the first round, he could go before Lance.  Everyone is expecting New England to trade up, and they might, but they could move up to Detroit or Dallas and take Mond.
    • Washington will be aggressive and end up with Lance. Maybe with a trade with the Lions or Panthers---

So when the chips start falling and the desperate teams start moving in for a QB, the Panthers' front office is going to look pretty smart.  Imagine that 5 QBs go before the Panthers?  Six?

Let's take a look at how that could go down--think desperate GM here-Washington, Denver, New England come to mind.

    1. Jax Could they take Wilson?  Nah. Lawrence QB

    2. Jets Wilson QB

    3. Niners--I am still convinced that Jones is their guy.  Jones QB

    4. Denver (trade with Atlanta) Fields, QB

    5. Cincinnati Sewell or Chase--probably Sewell LT

    6. Dolphins Chase WR

    7. Lions (Trade with New England) SHOCKER!!! MHS HAS Cahunas!  Mond, QB

    8. WFT (trade with Panthers) Lance, QB

    9. Atlanta (from Denver) Pitts TE

    10  Cowboys Kwity Paye, DE

    11.  giants Surtain CB

    12. Eagles Parsons LB

    13. Chargers Darrisaw LT

    14. Vikings Slater T/G

    15. Detroit (from New England--Not sure Waddle lasts this long) Waddle WR

    16. Cardinals Horn, CB

    17. Raiders Smith WR

    18.  Dolphins Barmore DT

    19. Panthers, (2021 first, 2021 second, with a 2022 first and second rounder for Pick #8) Caleb Farley, CB

Just a hunch that this could go down.  Marty likes to deal with people he knows, and RR and Snyder will be frothing for a QB...

Panthers have 2 picks in second round.   OT and DT.

Tampa Bay may draft Mills, QB Stanford.

I like it, but I think I'd see if anyone in the 11-16 group would take the 2022 second I just got from Washington and maybe a 3rd to switch places with me at 19.  I like the guys that went 11-16 a lot more than Farley.

  6. Waddle's comp is tyreke hill.  Who wouldn't draft tyreke hill at 8 if given the chance?

If Panthers want a weapon, my bet is the Panthers board looks like this:

    1. Sewell

    2. Pitts

    3. Waddle

    4. Chase

    5, Slater

  7. Let's assume 3 qbs go 1-3.

I think that leaves Sewell, Slater, Surtain, Horn, Chase, Waddle, Smith, Fields, Parsons, and maybe Lance on the board.  It would be silly with all of that talent on the board to lock in on 1 guy.  Especially with the holes on our roster.  I think the Panthers want to trade back, but not so far that they do not get one of these elite guys.

I'd feel good about trading back to 9-12  I would still get an elite difference-making player, probably pick up an extra 2nd or a 2022 first.  This gives me flexibility to move around and get whatever I didn't get in the 9-12 slot.  Could even slip back into the late first if someone I really like is dropping.

  8. My guess is the panthers were targeting Wilson.  They explored opportunities to move up for Wilson with the Jets and Miami.  If the Jets stuck with Darnold, Wilson could be had through the Miami pick.  As soon as the Jets made it known they would consider offers for Darnold, the Panthers knew Wilson was gone to the Jets.  No one else was worth moving up for based on their analysis.

All things considered, I think the Panthers are on the right path.  Roll the dice on a young, developing QB, tag Moton, sign some solid vets for the interior line, and hang on to 8 and 39.  If we can land Pitts or Sewell at 8, we should see a much improved product.

Assuming our defense gels quickly and we can add a little help at CB/S, we should be competitive in every game.

  9. To me, adding Darnold really changes things.  Also, we have a ton of decent guards now.  I really don't see a need for a stud G with Miller, Eflein, Erving, Daley, Scott already on the roster.  They may even try Little inside, although I think its more likely they cut him and save the 2m.  We have a ton of defense front 7 as well.  The openings on the roster are S/RB/CB/WR/TE.

    1. Sewell or Slater

    2. Grant S

    3. Gowan Stokes, or Melifonwu CB

    4. Darden WR

    5. RB or WR

    6. Yeboah TE

    6. best S that falls.

That's not how it typically works.  Teams don't trade with the team that wants "their guy."  Teams trade in front of the team that wants their guy.  If people think we want their guy, that increases the value of the Lions pick...not ours.  Denver would be moving into our spot to block another team from trading into that spot.

Exactly. Denver could trade up with us if they want lance and are worried New England or WFT is offering a better package. They are worried about us trading down more than us taking their guy.

I can understand the delusional homerism, after all we all display it from time to time. It is part of being a fan.

But, we are historically one of the NFL's worst franchises. No amount of head in sand is going to change that. Eventually we have to start actually consistently winning to change that narrative.

Our record is 16th best over the last 10 years. Our record is 18th best over the last 20 years. Historically we are average. No amount of head in the sand is going to change that.

  12. 8, Fields (or Lance if Fields is gone)

    39. Mayfield or Cosmi or Jenkins LT (one should be there)

    Then I'm wheeling and dealing. I'm turning 73, 113, 151 into a DT, S, and CB.  I would prefer

    Richie Grant - S

    Alim McNeill - DT

One of Melifonwu, Gowan, Adebo, or Rodarous WIlliams - CB

    193 Yeboah TE

    222 Very fast Slot Receiver

    226 Hog Mollie

I think all this Mac Jones stuff is a smokescreen spoonfed to insiders!!

Why the smokescreen - they pick 3?  Why pretend your picking Jones then suddenly pick Fields?  what's the point of the smoke?  Who needs to be fooled?

I think they plan to pick Jones, but Fields is a contingency in case something goes wrong last minute.  If Mac jones tests positive for cocaine or has a serious accident before the draft, they will probably go with a different QB since there are no take-backs on their ridiculous trade.

  14. Everyone acts like Lance is some finished product that everyone needs right away. He’s a developmental guy for a team that is not ready to compete. That’s us. He will fall to 8 and we’ll take him. TB will start next year, our new line and defense will gel.  Lance will get reps in practice and get his feet wet with a drive or two in the games.

if lance is somehow not there, we move back far enough to grab a future first, and pick best available LT and Corner in rounds 1-2. Then go get Wilson next year.

the build is happening. A plan a and plan b is in place. Patience padawans.
